no words ...

For what, or who?

If I knew what your are talking about, I might be similarly outraged!

MawB2 Fri 18-Sep-20 18:42:09

Mmm - my shoe budget?
My prosecco habit?
My OAP?

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 18:42:25

Well yes but at least it’s his only job and he does it well. Can I raise you £100,000 a year for 7 hours a week for a complete failure who supposedly already has a full time job? ?

grannyrebel7 Fri 18-Sep-20 18:53:31

Gareth Bale returning to Spurs, but £600,000 a week I agree is obscene. No-one needs that much money. I hope he contributes a lot of that to charity.

biba70 Fri 18-Sep-20 18:56:37

thank you grannyrebel17 - glad you agree

Curlywhirly Fri 18-Sep-20 19:08:59

I know, the announcement had me thinking too - just what would/could you do with that much money? Even living in extreme luxury, you would be hard pressed to spend it all. Unless the excess was used for good causes (which he may very well do) what's the point of just amassing millions and millions that you couldn't spend in your lifetime?

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 19:12:13

Perhaps he’ll buy his mum a nice house (wish I were his mum) ?

Curlywhirly Fri 18-Sep-20 19:15:24

A nice house? He could buy her one a week, or a whole village on those wages!

I wonder who that might be ???

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 19:30:04

Curly you haven’t seen the house I have in mind ......

EllanVannin Fri 18-Sep-20 19:30:15

Scandalous when come October after furloughs there'll be thousands looking for work.

biba70 Fri 18-Sep-20 19:55:42

btw, he flew into Luton and went straight to the Club- will he be spending 14 days there isolating?

Curlywhirly Fri 18-Sep-20 20:04:50

Suziewoozie true..... baronial splendour at least on those wages, nothing less will do!

rafichagran Fri 18-Sep-20 20:13:55

Good luck to him, why does it bother some posters?
Footballers as a whole earn a high salary. It's just the way it is. I really cannot get het up about it.

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 20:18:13

Exactly my feelings rafi. The real scandals and obscenities are our so called leaders giving out contracts and jobs to their mates regardless. The well paid footballers are not harming us but all these failed services provided/ run by Johnson’s chums will kill and disable many over the next few months

rafichagran Fri 18-Sep-20 20:35:09

Agreed Suzie, why is it always footballers who get a hard time about getting high salaries. Football brings alot of joy for many, and alot players know what it is like to suffer poverty. Marcus Rashford for one, look at the good he done with the childrens school meals.
I really do not begrudge him his salary, or that of any other football player.

biba70 Fri 18-Sep-20 20:51:46

of course teachers and nurses, etc- don't bring a joy to many sad

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 21:25:34

Footballers get it because the majority of them are working class and didn’t go to public school?

Anniebach Fri 18-Sep-20 21:38:32

Gareth Bale’s father was a school caretaker in Cardiff.

What do top actors earn for each film

A teacher earns more than a school cleaner or dinner lady

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 21:50:52

If anybody wants a serious discussion about the way we choose to reward people in our society and how we place value on the contribution they make, I’m up for it. What I’m not up for is scapegoating one very very tiny minority group as though they are the real problem we face.

Calendargirl Fri 18-Sep-20 21:58:41

Footballers, politicians, actors, tv presenters......lots of them are paid huge amounts....whether they earn it is another matter.

biba70 Fri 18-Sep-20 22:08:22

Good point suzie- thanks.

But honestly over 30 million a year is quite shocking- but i do take your point.

My major issue, is what it teaches our youngsters.

suziewoozie Fri 18-Sep-20 22:17:06

I worry far far more about what our current Government and its leader are teaching our youngsters. ? if tomorrow all football disappeared, what difference would it make? But if we as a society demanded truth, transparency, competency , compassion for those in need , fairness, justice from our Government and got it, that would transform our lives.

biba70 Fri 18-Sep-20 22:24:15

agreed. But hearing his salary on TV news really made me jump.

About isolating- will he and the Club get away with it? What will their excuse be?
