Yes, GG13, Sandringham earns its keep and Prince Charles is moving his organic farming enterprise there from Gloucestershire so that bodes well for the local economy.

What will happen to St. James' Palace when Charles is King?

Went to St.James Palace for the presentation of one of AC D of E Gold award, this was twelve years ago and it was extremely tatty then. Maybe refurbish for a museum / art gallery? Could house some of the RF’s treasures under one roof?

What a sad day for Britain when any thing happens to HM. The beginning of the end for the monarch.

sparklingsilver28 Sun 27-Sept-20 12:36:47

Monarchy - not monarch

The relatives of the queen living in K P pay rent. I disagree with forcing anyone to open their own homes to the public.

I don’t know the answer but I do not want these buildings pulled down or let to fall down.

The apartments could be let to very wealthy people but they
wouldn’t pay for repairs.

How do the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester earn their money? Isn't 'paying rent' just recycling it?

If apartment are let to very wealthy people the rent should cover the cost of repairs.

Apparently the Kents used to have country houses which they couldn't afford to keep up (poor things) so they flogged them and moved into KP apartments. Many of us downsize as we grow older but most of us don't have a relative who can give us a nice city centre apartment. Prince Michael paid £69 rent for years until it was challenged and set at £120000 per year, HMQ paid that until 2009, quite who is paying now no one seems to know.
If you only have one house perhaps opening it to the public is too much (although there are aristos who do that) but when you have quite as many as the RF it really wouldn't cause any hardship. But as the song goes "The Stately Homes of England,
How beautiful they stand,
To prove the upper classes
Have still the upper hand;"

No way , a president? Think of the leaders of the political parties

Anniebach Sun 27-Sept-20 12:44:53

We could do as the Russians did and shoot them , then elect
A Putin

GrannyGravy13 Sun 27-Sept-20 12:50:00

I fear the first person to put themselves forward for President of the UK would be Tony Blair!!!! He has the money and probably the backing ???

Calendargirl Sun 27-Sept-20 12:50:27

I think when the Queen dies, it will all get looked at thoroughly. I’m not saying they will all downsize to a 3 bed semi?, but both Charles and William will be aware things have to move on.

I don’t mean the Queen is the same as her mother, but after the QM died, properties were shuffled round a bit.

I think C and W realise that slimming down must entail change.

Anniebach Sun 27-Sept-20 13:28:30

I feel so sorry for Charles, he has been heir since age 4 , he has been a hard working Prince .of Wales and served the crown but his disastrous marriage is still held against him , so unfair.

Nannan2 Sun 27-Sept-20 13:41:39

They perhaps shouldn't be referred to as 'the sussexes' anymore? They don't even live in sussex! However, surely Harry is still a 'Windsor'-isn't that the family name?So yes I'm sure the Queen should remove the 'Dukedom' title from them so it makes things clearer- Harry should still get to keep his Prince title as he will always be Prince Charles's son, and the Queens grandson.

Nannan2 Sun 27-Sept-20 13:43:37

Prince Harry should definitely keep his political opinions to himself though- either GB's or US's.

merlotgran Sun 27-Sept-20 13:59:04

I don't particularly like Sarah Vine, Michael Gove's wife who writes for the DM but have to agree with her comment today that if H&M are stripped of their titles it will turn them into victims and they'll play on it.

Anniebach Sun 27-Sept-20 14:04:45

Yes merlot another book attacking his family

If the title prince was dropped Harry would be Mountbatten-
Windsor

I thought he was known as "Harry Wales" when he was in the Army.

Lexisgranny Sun 27-Sept-20 15:15:37

It was not until 1960 that the Royal family, changed their name to Mountbatten Windsor. Previously it appeared to be a bone of contention with Prince Philip that he children did not have his name, hence Archie is Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor. Harry was of course officially known as Prince Henry of Wales until he married and received his royal dukedom. Though I possibly he and William used Wales when in the armed forces because MW was a bit of a mouthful - who knows.

Sorry, lots of typos, must wear my specs when typing,

Anniebach Nobody wants to shoot any of the RF or elect a Putin!

sparklingsilver28 Sun 27-Sept-20 15:18:31

Anniebach - regret unable to agree your assessment of PC

Best for Britain if his mother outlives him - and his past wiped out. No R is a saint, nor expect to be, but what he did a grubby disgrace.

Grany Sun 27-Sept-20 15:49:46

The houses palaces and castles are fully funded or heavily subsidised by the tax payer

What happens to the palaces when the monarchy is abolished?

Some may convince, justify, proposing to a naive, innocent, young woman, with a strumpet in tow as part of the package, acceptable. Those of with honourable integrate and intent do not!

sparklingsilver28 Sun 27-Sept-20 16:44:02
