Well done NS for taking a stand over Margaret Farrier MP breaking the coronavirus rules. What a pity that BJ could not have been as principled over Cummings.

Urmstongran Fri 02-Oct-20 20:51:59

Margaret Ferrier described her decision as a ‘mistake’.

Nicola Sturgeon more succinctly described it as an error of judgement. Well said that woman.

lemongrove Fri 02-Oct-20 20:50:42

Exactly Chewbacca but she seems to be hanging on like grim death. Wonder what her constituents think!

Chewbacca Fri 02-Oct-20 20:40:32

Biba you've been here long enough to know that all threads wander and meander; just like conversations do irl.

Now that the police have confirmed that theyre making formal enquiries regarding Margaret Ferrier's colossal "error of judgement", she surely must know that her political career is over and do the decent thing and resign. She's lost all respect and integrity.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:34:30

I also read today that the SNP accounts have not been passed? or released?

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 20:33:57

Several “threads” often run on the same thread.

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 20:33:05

Not sure His Krankiness is relevant either. Nor something else Nicola Sturgeon has been called: Ms McTermite. If one were to be consistent and all that.

Threads do wander, alegrias. I doubt anyone will mind if you carry on talking about Nicola Sturgeon’s political ability.

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 20:17:48

I'd give you my view on that biba70 but it's not my thread.

biba70 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:14:35

and the relevance to this thread is ?

Jane10 Fri 02-Oct-20 20:09:00

NS integrity under scrutiny right now due to the committee looking at the Salmond enquiry. NS and her husband have engaged solicitors. Lots going on in the background.

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 20:00:21

Oh! It's not your thread, it was Luckygirl who started it.

I already answered her.

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 19:59:06

Apologies!

I was just making the point that one should never assume anything.

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 19:57:11

I'd really like to be talking about NS and her political ability, rather than how anybody looks.....that was the purpose of the thread.

biba70 Fri 02-Oct-20 19:53:15

That is not the point.

I do remember someone here comparing NS to Wee Jimmy Krankie.

Callistemon Fri 02-Oct-20 19:42:04

suziewoozie - with you 100%. The comment about Farrier's appearance was out of order and totally irrelevant This is not a 'thought'.

But that is because you both think that Morticia Addams was ugly, not beautiful.

She is beautiful in an austere way.

Alegrias Fri 02-Oct-20 19:38:30

varian, I'm proud that we have Nicola in our political environment in Scotland. Her behaviour over the last few months has shown what leadership is all about. I've heard her speak in person and I've been in her company, and what you see is what you get. She has a vision for an independent Scotland that inspires me. She's not alone though, there are other SNP politicians that are equally impressive - Philippa Whitford and Stephen Gethins, for instance.

The current government at Holyrood is not perfect, no government ever has been. But most of Scotland think they are significantly better than the alternative, like paddyanne says that's why we keep voting them in smile

I came to believe in independence at the time of our referendum, my heart had always been for it but finding out about our history and economy convinced my head as well. The Scots have been different to the English for a long time - we were independent for hundreds of years before we joined the Union, I'm sure you know that so I'm not preaching. As a nation we have a very different outlook, much more European and we're aware of our limitations as well as our talents.

I'm not sure what you mean by being told you are a foreigner in your own country, but despite what some try to pretend, Scotland will always welcome the ones who want to be Scottish.

Here endeth the lesson smile

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 19:24:54

I do like comedienne Jane Godley's 'takes' of NS though ?

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 19:22:13

I would like to say, as a lifetime opponent of the SNP that I regard Nicola Sturgeon as the most accomplished politician of her generation

Soneone I know who was for many years an active member of the local Scottish Conservative Party near us has said something similar to that. NS seems to be well respected.

MissAdventure Fri 02-Oct-20 19:17:32

I think Morticia is beautiful.

varian Fri 02-Oct-20 19:16:38

In answer to you question paddyanne I do not believe that Scotland is incapable of governing herself but I do believe that Scotland is a vital integral part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and we are better together.

Great Britain is a small Island, albeit the biggest of the British Isles and has been inhabited by Britons for much longer than tbe Scots, Welsh, or English chose to self identify.

I am British and Scottish and I do not want to be told that I am a foriegner in my own country.

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 19:12:12

Irrelevant my comment might have been, at least as judged by people most concerned about importance of the MP's. behaviour.

Wrongness or out of order-ness I do not accept. It is not wrong to remark on resemblances that one notices. There is nothing bad about the comparison I made unless one is assuming that the appearance or character Morticia Adams was bad. I was not assuming that.

Incidentally, biba, if what I thought came into my head was not a thought, what was it?

Lucca Fri 02-Oct-20 19:01:51

varian. Well said. Totally agree with you. I am not Scottish and therefore don’t really feel qualified to give my opinion on Scottish independence but I have admired NS for a long time as a communicator and I feel she has integrity .

paddyanne Fri 02-Oct-20 18:52:55

Varian I think it speaks for itself that we keep voting them back in .Not that I'm biased ,but labour is dead in Scotland ,the tories have fallen again in the ratings to mid teens and the Lib Dems are on course to lose the seats they have in May.Confidence in the Scottish government is high with a recent poll saying over 61% trusted the Scottish government while 15% trusted the UK.
Can I ask WHY you dont believe Scotland is capable of being Independent when many small nations with far less wealth and natural recourses have made the transition successfully?

biba70 Fri 02-Oct-20 18:19:21

suziewoozie - with you 100%. The comment about Farrier's appearance was out of order and totally irrelevant This is not a 'thought'.

varian Fri 02-Oct-20 17:54:56

I would like to say, as a lifetime opponent of the SNP that I regard Nicola Sturgeon as the most accomplished politician of her generation,

I am a Scot no longer living in Scotland and so I do not know as much as I otherwise would about the accomplishments and failures of the SNP government in Scotland , however I have to concede that Nicola Sturgeon can certainly talk the talk,

Whether she can walk the walk is another question, but she is without doubt the most consummate political communicator of our times in the UK.

Baggs Fri 02-Oct-20 17:51:48

No flippancy. No glibness.
