The "dead voters" accusation is still dirtying the waters, but this by the BBC's Reality Check is interesting. Anyone who has researched their family tree will recognise the problem of sorting out exactly who is who from a list of millions of possible individuals - and how easy it is to pick the wrong person if they seem to match what you would like to prove.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-us-2020-54874120
"To test the list [of 10,000 supposedly "dead" voters in Michigan], we [BBC] picked 30 names at random. To this we added the oldest person on the list.

Of this list of 31 names, we managed to speak directly to 11 people (or to a family member, neighbour or care home worker) to confirm they were still alive.

For 17 others, there was no public record of their death, and we found clear evidence that they were alive after the alleged date of death on the list of 10,000. A clear pattern emerged - the wrong records had been joined together to create a false match.

Finally, we found that three people on the list were indeed dead. We examine these cases later."

The 10,000 names were ones of people voting in the state whose name and date of birth (month and year only) matched those whose date of death was in the records. Someone then made the assumption that this meant that the votes had been faked. It must have been someone who had never found six people in a BMD database whose names and approximate dates of birth and death matched their great-great-grandfather.

The oldest person had been alive when she sent in her postal ballot in September, but had died since. Her vote should have been disallowed, but had been missed. Of the other two who had died, one's son (with the same name) had voted on his father's ballot, but his own vote had not been used (his error?) in the other case, it was the son who actually voted, but it had been recorded as the father's due to a clerical error.

When he won, they said democrats were sore losers- And now that he lost they are accusing democrats of being sore winners in so many words-

Whitewavemark2 Sat 14-Nov-20 19:18:25

I see that the democrats have cancelled their celebratory dinner.

I don’t see how they could have done anything else

Million Orc March today in D.C.

Only several thousand showed up- Sauron did a drive by to show support-

MaizieD Sat 14-Nov-20 22:27:17

I saw overhead footage of that, rosecarmel. Having compared it with overhead footage of the March 2018 anti Brexit march (which was a million+) it didn't look anything like a million.

They're a bit like Farage's Brexit Party supporters, aren't they? Full of wind but not as much action as threatened.

One senior official is charged with ensuring a peaceful transfer of power when there is an apparent election winner. The Trump appointee is jeopardizing all that.

President Donald Trump finally admitted to losing the election — before immediately continuing to spread misinformation about false allegations of mass voter fraud, and later claiming President-elect Joe Biden “only won in the eyes of the Fake News Media”.

Believe it or not, the world did not stop turning on its axis because of the US election and ensuing, self-indulgent disputes in the land of the free-for-all. In the age of Donald Trump, narcissism spreads like the plague.

But the longer the wrangling in Washington continues, the greater the collateral damage to America’s global reputation – and to less fortunate states and peoples who rely on the US and the western allies to fly the flag for democracy and freedom.

One does wonder -is Trump still taking his orders from Putin?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 15-Nov-20 17:10:18

I was interested in listening to CNN, and how the disaffected are turning from Fox News and listening to even more right wing news outlets that seem to be entirely lying.

That could get very dodgy it seems to me.

varian Sun 15-Nov-20 18:10:14

Hard to believe that there are propogandist tv stations to the right of Fox News but in the USA anything is possible.

I like what Obama has said:

"We would never accept that out of our own kids behaving that way if they lost, right? I mean, if my daughters — in any kind of competition — pouted and — and then accused the other side of cheating when they lost, when there was no evidence of it, we'd scold 'em," Obama said.

"Presidents, he maintained, are "temporary occupants of the office, by design."

"And when your time is up then it is your job to put the country first and think beyond your own ego, and your own interests, and your own disappointments," Obama said.

The contrast between the dignified, graceful handover in 2016 with this childish tantrum could not be more stark.

rosecarmel Mon 16-Nov-20 17:58:10

Gayle King from CBS interviewed him recently- He still skirts answering some questions directly, unable to let down his guard and be transparent-

He can't go back and accomplish what he wanted- But he can't move forward either while blaming others for not being able to accomplish what he wanted-

It's true he got blocked- That is a fact- But the other half of that story is that he was unable to convince- And that falls on him-

varian Mon 16-Nov-20 18:03:32

The very alarming fact is that so many millions of Americans voted for him, including devout religious Christians, in spite of his appalling character, his dishonesty, his sexual incontinence, his racism and his abject ignorance.

I just hope that eventually at least some of these voters will throw away the rose-tinted specs and see him for the charlatan that he is.

rosecarmel Mon 16-Nov-20 18:05:40

I was talking about Obama, not Trump- ?

rosecarmel Mon 16-Nov-20 18:10:56

The voters that supported Trump were voters that were disregarded- Unheard- Many that voted differently in the past, that believed others presidential promises and produced no better- For THEM-

rosecarmel Mon 16-Nov-20 18:20:10

People don't seem to "believe" just how much poverty is in this country, how many are struggling to get by, even prior to the pandemic- I don't know why-

Yet they asked to throw away their rose-colored glasses and jump onto that familiar old bandwagon that dropped them off even further away from their goals than when they climbed on-

We're talking half the country!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 16-Nov-20 18:38:55

I think that the problem is we rarely see the poverty in the USA and what it means for folk.

The tent cities
Dying from lack of medical care
The racial divide - although that is reported regularly.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 16-Nov-20 18:40:36

I think that unless the politicians both in the USA and here begin to address these issues the result will be more and more extreme positions of the right and god knows where we will end up.

varian Mon 16-Nov-20 19:48:09

But why do these poor folk turn to the right rather than the left, which promises more for the poor??
