Hi Grans Netters

Would you consider the monarchy having a annual budget costed rather than a Sovereign Grant which always goes up never down and isn't based on need? If you are then you can sign this petition and share it if you like on social media.

The Sovereign Grant has gone up by 60% since it was introduced in 2012 - from £31m to £49.4m last year (excluding costs of renovating Buckingham Palace, which pushes the cost over £80m).

PC gets £20 million from the Duchy which should go to treasury. They pay no corporation tax or capital gains tax on that though it's run like a billion pound corporation giving them an unfair advantage The Queen gets a similar amount from the Duchy of Lancaster So all in all they are all doing extremely well out of the tax payer.

I think this is possibly not accurate

Check out the section on taxation

I won't be signing.

No, I won't be signing

Doesn't appear to be gaining much traction either.

I think most people are happy enough with the status quo

Slimmed down monarchy. Never a republican UK.

Not all residencies are publicly owned.

Anniebach Wed 21-Oct-20 21:44:01

Edward owns his house as does Anne,

Is Charles a hanger on ? I thought he was heir to the throne,

Why should they get rid of their own property ? Sandringham
and Balmoral are privately owned .

grannyrebel7 Wed 21-Oct-20 21:32:59

Definitely not!

quizqueen Wed 21-Oct-20 21:31:01

I think when the Queen dies, the royal family will be pared down to consist of Charles and William's descendants only. Likewise when William is King, Charlotte and Louis will be phased out so the monarchy will become cheaper over the years.

I also think Charles won't want to live in Buckingham Palace so that could be opened up to the public full time, except for the odd State visit. They need to tell all the Dukes, Edward and the Yorks to move out into smaller houses and pay for them themselves. There's also Clarence House and Kensington Palace- they need to pay for themselves rather than housing hangers on.

They could also cut down on their holiday homes or open them to the public for the 50 weeks or so they are not there. I do agree that they cost too much but I also think they give the UK some kudos.

Anniebach Wed 21-Oct-20 21:30:47

They are open to the public , have you not said the royals don’t bring in tourists ?

The buildings would still round the clock security

Grany Wed 21-Oct-20 21:25:38

They could be open to the public become tourist attractions and bring in a lot more revenue No not pulled down this is our history people should be able to see them.

Anniebach Wed 21-Oct-20 21:18:57

Grany what do you want to happen to the historic buildings?

Repairs to these buildings would still have to be paid for, or do
you want them pulled down ?

Grany Wed 21-Oct-20 21:05:00

Royals are spending over £345m a year on themselves. We could spend that on school meals.

Grandma70s Wed 21-Oct-20 21:03:08

I’m not signing either.

lemongrove Wed 21-Oct-20 20:58:08

No, not signing thanks.
Doesn’t matter if it’s called an annual budget, they would need the same amount of money for security, maintenance and staff etc.
We either have a funded monarchy or we don’t.

Anniebach Wed 21-Oct-20 20:50:44

And get shot of the Queen these buildings wouldn’t need security ? Turn Windsor Castle into flats ?

Grany Wed 21-Oct-20 20:29:25

But they all have to have round the clock security Annie costing £100 million paid for by the metropolitan police.

Anniebach Wed 21-Oct-20 19:45:25

grany the properties in Kensington Palace are all as one, each property is not separated, same with the properties in
Windsor and Sandringham and Balmoral.

Lucca Wed 21-Oct-20 19:08:21

Kamiso

I have no problem funding the royal family. We are lucky to have most of them.

Thus is not about NOT funding them but doing it in a more rational way

Pantglas2 Wed 21-Oct-20 19:06:44

This is going so well is it......in seven hours not many signed up! Perhaps try Mumsnet?

Sugned

silverlining48 Wed 21-Oct-20 16:47:50

Signed. Wouldn’t it be nice if the state pension for those who retired before the new pension was introduced were upgraded to the same amount? there’s a £40 pw difference.
Something the RF don’t have to concern themselves with.
