We need a coup

Whether it is an internal Tory overthrow or another political group, we need the current criminal incompetents removed from power. They are willfully causing needless C19 deaths and in-full-view pocketing tax payer money with only the flimsiest of attempts to pretend they're not.

I'm no Tory (god forbid) but bloody hell, what we need now is a Margaret Thatcher to sort this unholy mess Boris and his buddies are making.

I think some calming down is needed on here asap.

Don't make inflammatory statements about politeness then eye roll!

Good post MOnica.

I think maybe some posters shouldn't be so insulting.

Janpt Being on benefits is not what most people plan and often poverty comes on them suddenly when unemployment arrives unexpectedly (like thata caused by COVID, or illness, deaath or other family tragedy. Usually the children have been at least, conceived, if not born, when times are good and the family feel secure, again it is another one of those urban myths you have so much trust in that anyone on benefits has made a career choice to live on benefits and is on them for years. Thankfully most people will not be on benefits for long may be months or a year and then they get back to work. The number of families or single parents having further children when on benefits is vanishingly small. Lone parents have the smallest families, the majority have only one child and very nearly 50% of all families have one child.

The worst poverty in this country is suffered by the working poor

There might even be some Tory voters who suddenly find themselves having to turn to the state for help, and realising, rather late in the day, that folk claiming universal credit who are not lazy scroungers - they are people just like them.

I note no reply to your request as to the contributions made by the individual pointing the finger at 'left wing money grabbers', growstuff.

Of course there won't be. I sometimes wonder if people who come out with this kind of stuff realise how insulting (and wrong) they are. It's become normalised, so I think some people don't even notice it.

Analysis by the DWP shows that there has been a huge increase in the number of professionals/people with qualifications on middle incomes claiming UC. Many of them aren't even eligible.

Are they all typical left-wing money grabbers?

I suspect they've been paying taxes and NI for years, naively believing that the word "insurance" meant ... err ... insurance.

Janpt I apologise if this seems harsh........ but you have no flipping idea what it is like to be poor in 2020!!!!

I agree but as I have said before some people do not make things easier for themselves by wasting benefite

Do you stalk people? Do you know who receives benefits? Have you ever seen their bank accounts? Do you even know how little benefits are worth?

GagaJo Fri 23-Oct-20 17:52:30

I don't know about you lemongrove, but the phrase 'typical left wing money grabbers' is in no way, shape or form polite. Not to mention vastly incorrect. I am left wing and never claimed a penny of state aid, and have paid huge amounts of UK tax and National Insurance, as have the other GN members I know on a more personal basis.

The money grabbers' are the right wing, corrupt politicians giving work to their mates. Mates with no ability, experience or means of production. A contract for ferries to a friend with... no bloody boats. Track and trace done on an Excel spreadsheet. Testing taken away from the NHS in the middle of a pandemic and given to companies incapable of handling tests in large numbers. We are talking millions of pounds of our tax payers money slipped into back pockets with nothing in return.

Let us not forget. We are not just talking corruption. We are talking thievery directly leading to the deaths of thousands of British citizens.

Perhaps the jumping on Janpt from a great height should now stop.....starting to look bullying.

Thanks for your support lemongrove. It doesn't bother me in the least. They just show themselves up for what they are. Typical left wing money grabbers who think there is a bottomless pit of money to be handed out to anyone who makes the wrong choice in life such as bringing into the world children they cannot afford to keep and just expect the tax payer to bring them up.

Do you mean like me because my children had free school meals Janpt?

I once worked out how much National Insurance I've paid since I was 18. Even without inflation, it would be enough to pay for all the NHS care, state pension and benefits I've ever received or am likely to receive. Did you know that 70% of the population benefit more from National Insurance than they ever contribute? Maybe you're one of them. Have you ever been a higher rate taxpayer?

I would appreciate an apology! angry

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 17:40:57

Yes GG13 you are always polite in your responses.?

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 17:39:23

What is fairly new is that we now all know much more about what goes on in politics, it’s reasonably transparent.
If we had been talking about politics in a village hall thirty years ago, none of us would have known much about what actually went on unless it was reported in the papers or heard on radio or discussed on the rare political tv programme.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Oct-20 17:38:25

Lemongrove jobs for mates goes on in every business however big or small, I agree.
No difference to the local builder giving his friends son a job.

The Government is doing it on an eye watering scale and have been caught red handed.

I hope that I am always polite in my posts , if they are perceived otherwise I apologise.

The next United Kingdom general election is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2 May 2024 ...

consider the damage done so far - what will be left by then?

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 17:35:11

No, I don’t ‘despair’ ( that overused word on GN) at our democracy, although I have always thought Johnson a poor choice for either leader or PM.

lemongrove Fri 23-Oct-20 17:31:59

Janpt has written her opinions ( and I agree with her on the subject of Raynor’s language ) and has remained calm and polite. Therefore she has ‘taken it’, but is entitled to her point of view.Be nice if others were polite in return.
The awarding of contracts ‘just because they know each other’ has been going on in politics since Adam was a lad.

Oh and Janpt if you consider supporting Angela Rayner a left wing act, then so be it. She is a woman to be admired, as a child she was a carer with a mother with serious mental illness so she knows what she is talking about in the area of childhood poverty, more than you evidently do with your snarky unfounded and ignorant comments there is no need for children to go hungry so long as parents use the benefits for what they are intended and not spent on cigarettes and drink. When you see someone having a cigarette do you ask if they are on benefits? I don't expect you do actually know anyone on 'their uppers' because if you did, you wouldn't be so ill-informed.

Although Angela Rayner had a bad start in life she is now the Deputy leader of the Labour party. As such her language in parliament was totally unacceptable and no apology will condone it. She has let her side down badly not that I and many others mind too much.

GillT57 Fri 23-Oct-20 17:16:34

Lemon I don't think anyone plans on filling milk bottles with petrol and marching on parliament, but lots of people are in despair at the state of democracy in this country. I know we see things differently sometimes, but surely you, as an intelligent and caring and educated person are appalled at what Johnson and his cronies are doing? At the awarding of contracts to totally unsuitable people just because they know each other? This is beyond politics and is a scandal. As for janpt if she can't take it she shouldn't give it, she was the one throwing comments about Angela Rayner into the discussion.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 23-Oct-20 17:10:41

No coup in my name Lemongrove

I just hope MPs from all sides come to their senses.

Does anyone on here ( apart from the OP) genuinely think there should be some sort of coup ( and by who) and how?
Just interested....I think it’s loony tunes to even contemplate but what do you think? Haven’t seen all that many repudiations of the idea so far.

westendgirl Fri 23-Oct-20 17:04:49

How many people waste benefits, Janpt ?Do you really know or are you just sticking to something you once saw in a TV programme.?
Open your mind for goodness sake. There are people who have been made redundant, whose income has has dropped drastically, so look around , talk to people who work at the foodbank, who work in schools , who start charities in their local area to help children and who have been doing this for several years, such as the Make Lunch initiative, Look out for Sal's shoes who are now being asked to donate shoes in this country and so on. Most of all stop being blinkered. These are children we are talking about.Please.
