I have seen this lady interviewed several times in the last 24 hours. She is 83 and has a unique outlook on Covid and the rules.

Someone should give her a link to this thread, and she'd see what people really think of her views

She certainly doesn’t speak for me. Just hope she doesn’t get covid as she can’t possibly expect to use all the medicines that scientists have provided.
Stupid woman!

Why was this woman given air time for her views?

Why was this woman given air time for her views?

Why shouldn't she be? Who has the right to censor somebody else's opinion?

I didn't agree with the marchers protesting against the wearing of masks and I don't agree with anti-vaxxers but I would be very concerned if there was some kind of media censorship.

I was just thinking if we are led by "iijits"is it any wonder other "iijits" are listened to?

maddyone Fri 23-Oct-20 13:35:34

Whilst Maureen has every right to express her views in a free society such as the UK, we have every right to ignore her. However, how did she come to be interviewed? Anyone know? I only saw a very brief clip of her on the national news last night.

EllanVannin Fri 23-Oct-20 15:00:59

Ah yes, the lady who " couldn't give a sod " so she said. grin

Lucca Fri 23-Oct-20 15:27:32

She’s not the same Maureen who couldn’t drive was she ?

Lucca Fri 23-Oct-20 15:28:11

I’m sure she’ll be snapped up by the dreadful Ann widdecombe

Ilovecheese Fri 23-Oct-20 16:33:51

It is not that this woman is not entitled to her own opinion, of course she is. the problem is that putting her on the TV gives her opinion more weight than it merits. "Getting rid of the scientists" is not a sensible thing to say.
The other problem is that now a great many people are making fun of her. Ann Widdecombe is probably used to that but this woman is not media savvy.

ginny Fri 23-Oct-20 16:46:17

Maybe she will enjoy her ‘15 minutes of fame’ .

Merlot
People have a right to hold their own opinions, but they don’t have a right to have them broadcast.

Producers and programme anchors have the right, and indeed the responsibility, not to broadcast someone’s opinion, if that opinion is patent nonsense, or not in the public interest, or might incite hatred or violence, in just the same way as a newspaper editor chooses which letters they publish.

What a pity it wasn’t James O’Brien on LBC who interviewed her. He’d have given her very short shrift.

Who controls and selects these "vox pops"?

The same people who put out all the one-sided vox pops in 2016 and 2019.

Did anyone notice the number of vox pops from Brexit-supporting Labour constituencies but never wondered why we never heard any Remain vox pops from Tory condstituencies?

No, I thought not. We never got that from the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation.

growstuff Fri 23-Oct-20 18:06:55

Well, I noticed.

I did wonder whether researchers find the thickest people they can to represent certain views, just for entertainment value.

The knuckle dragger who was going to vote for Brexit because it would get rid of all the Muslims was a good example.

The sad thing is, there are people who will believe the rubbish such people spout.
