and the world breathes a massive sigh of relief - wow <3

The results are always announced before all the votes are counted. There was nothing different at all this year other than Trump wound everyone up by lying beforehand. In Pen, the election authorities when they realised that there was going to be an enormous increase in mail in votes because of the virus, asked for permission to start counting the mail in votes earlier rather than having to wait until after the in person votes had been counted. They were denied this request by the State Republicans. This allowed Trump to spread his lies and I’m one of those that thinks this was a deliberate act by the State Republicans to feed his lies and spread dissent.

@Whitewavemark2. Not buying into anything, only stating what I’ve heard and read. Trump propaganda or not, it wouldn’t surprise me though. The world seems to have gone mad since lockdown so nothing surprises me any more.

You probably didn't view the RNC and the wide range of people, classes, ages and ethnicities who support our President and the freedoms this country has long stood for. You seem unaware of the real happenings in the USA over the past 4 yrs., how Pres. Trump cut taxes, brought back overseas jobs to American companies and individuals, created vast opportunities for blacks (including boosting their small businesses), how he truly loves this country. (He received a larger 2020 vote among minorities -- i.e. blacks, Latinos -- than any U.S. President in history.) The other party and many of our career politicians seek their own continuing power and financial security, even as they seek implementation of measures to bring our people to increasing dependency on the government (surrendering more and more of our everyday freedoms), which leads to socialism which leads to Communism which leads to everyone living in poverty. You are probably unaware of the underlying elements seeking to destroy the USA, its history and its culture. You don't live here, and it may be that you don't understand that this country is the last great hope for freedom in the world. Mr. Biden has not yet been certified as winner. Notwithstanding his corrupt dealings with China, Mr. Biden is unwell, and if he were put in office, it would be temporary. The VP candidate, who is far more radical than Mr. Biden (and hateful toward the USA), and who couldn't win her party's presidential nomination, would be next in line. There is no reason for President Trump to be put in prison, but there are huge reasons for Mr. Biden to be there. Think of the free world leaders during WWII. Sometimes, toughness is what is required to combat enemies, and liars (which are found among many of the purveyors of media). Perhaps you need to broaden your reading, beyond the mainstream.

Blimey this thread is attracting some very weird posts

suziewoozie Sun 08-Nov-20 20:38:07

Ah yes the wonderful Trump - who mocked a disabled journalist, who mocked a Gold Star family, who called war hero McCain a loser for being a POW whilst Trump dodged the draft 5 times. Trump who boasts of sexually assaulting women, who wants to take away women’s bodily autonomy and deny them health care and contraception. Trump who ordered babies and children to be ripped from their mothers arms at the border ( and 500 of which children have still not been reunited). And if you want to talk about voter fraud, perhaps you’d like to explain the decades of voter suppression especially in the South. I grew up observing little black children bring spat at during the desegregation of the schools, I read about little black children bring burned alive in a church by your wonderful KKK and fine young white men from the North being murdered whilst they tried to register black voters. And it’s a fact that voter suppression continues - quite frankly if the USA is a democracy, you’re welcome to it.

Unfortunately Biden doesn't like the U.K.My American penfriend will be distraught, she's a real Trump fan, can't imagine why.

Why should he like us? That’s not his job is it?

Ramblingrose22 Sun 08-Nov-20 20:56:35

Well said sw!

So the GOP attracts a diverse range of supporters. What does that prove? The same happens here with the Tories - it's hardly new.

The US was once a shining example to the world. It has been sad to watch the way its current President has deliberately sowed the seeds of division and made it so disunited.

I was horrified to hear that Governors decide the boundaries of voting districts in their states so there is gerrymandering on a vast scale as politicians draw the boundaries to improve their electoral chances. At least an independent body deals with that in the UK.

Before anyone runs away with the idea that I think everything about the British electoral system and democracy is honky dory, I don't. But that would have to be the subject of another thread.

Sorry folks but I fully agree with Pilgrim. This is far from over. I suggest you go searching the internet to find out what has really been going on.
Mind you, they have had postal ballots from 110 years old up to 170 years old for Biden. Hmm
I am not a particular fan of Trump as a person, but as a President he did get things he promised done.

It is totally delusional to continue with this argument.

Every country except China and Russia have recognised Biden. China won’t be long, given Bidens stated policy so we will left with just Russia.

What on earth does that mean “doesn’t like the UK”? I’ve read that Biden was not in favour of Brexit and in particular is opposed to an Irish hard border but that does not mean he does not t like the UK. Sorry to be blunt but what a silly remark.

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:25:27

Maybe not a silly remark Lucca as there are many people in the US with Irish ancestors going back a long way who supported the IRA with donations ( not suggesting Biden did btw).If Americans have Catholic ‘roots’ then dislike of the UK
( England in particular, but many can’t distinguish the difference) is definitely there in many cases, especially in the older generation.

Lucca Mon 09-Nov-20 09:29:22

With respect ...?. I referred to the language used. “Doesn’t like”. Does that mean finds the people unpleasant ? The geographical features unappealing? The food unpalatable ?

That is a post that is the sort of thing that hopefully will now disappear with the demise of Trump.

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:35:53

What you actually mean WW is that it’s a post you don’t like.
Nevertheless, it happens to be true.
I sincerely hope that Joe Biden doesn’t have an ancestral ‘down’ on us because of his Irish Catholic roots.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Nov-20 09:39:57

You have no evidence to suggest your opinion.

Dog whistling is what the American voter rejected.

It is time it was stopped.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 09-Nov-20 09:45:45

I suspect there are posters on GN with Irish Catholic roots.

Not a particularly clever or pleasant remark, associating them with the IRA.

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:45:52

Do stop being the forum police WW we are all entitled to opinions and musings.

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:46:25

I have Irish Catholic roots.

Then you should know better.

lemongrove Mon 09-Nov-20 09:52:53

Oh do give over!
Have you really never heard of all the IRA fundraising in America in the past?

What a truly truly awful post - to suggest that he would make important decisions like this based on ‘an ancestral down’. It’s in the same category as Johnson’s ‘part Kenyan’ racist slur about Obama and, as with most comments of this type, probably says more about the person making the comment than the person about whom the comment is made. What does make sense would be an opinion that Biden based on our history, would not trust us to treat NI well or for our word to be trusted on how much we cared about the GFA.

Evidence links pretty please and no, telling us to search the internet is not evidence. I could link you to an online video which shows Nancy Pelosi slurring her words and looking dazed except it was doctored and slowed down - evidence of what?

Jaberwok Mon 09-Nov-20 10:11:24

why on earth should somebody know better.because they have have Irish roots? I too have Irish roots, G.grandmother, County Cork who came here for a better life! This knowledge doesn't inspire any affinity in me towards Eire or its people! I just can't understand why Americans are so hung up about being of Irish decent, tbh I find it totally weird! I do think though, that the sooner NI rejoins the south the better, for all our sakes!

Whole thread on twitter explaining the 'elderly voter' phenomenon and more.

mobile.twitter.com/jacknicas/status/1324806270579318785

Didn't Trump promise to 'Make America Great Again'? As far as I can see all he achieved was to make America the laughing stock of the world hmm
