I felt sick when I read this morning that Sunak had not declared a third of what he should have done now he's got a top job. It's not just his "investments", it should be his whole family. There he is telling us people are going to lose their homes, and that kids can go hungry, and his family has vast wealth. What does he know. See Guardian front page. "One rule for us" etc etc.
If we go back in time, monarchs used to execute their enemies. It doesn't mean that it's acceptable these days.
I’m sure if we look back at the first and second world wars, certain politicians and associates have benefitted from government contracts for supplies, equipment, weapons.
And further back than that.
It’s always gone on.
Why is this newsworthy now? I thought it was common knowledge that Mrs Sunak comes from a super-rich family.
It was not meant in that way. I'm just sick of this country being duped by people who pretend to care.
I'm afraid that many of you know nothing about government or politics.
So true.
Your name is not very familiar, but your tone certainly is.
How fortunate that you have come along to share your superior knowledge with us.
I'm afraid that many of you know nothing about government or politics. Have you not noticed how lucrative "contracts" for PPE etc have gone to best buddies and family connections of ministers and MPs? Or totally unconnected middle men? Jewellers for instance? Ministers of the Crown are legally required to declare family investments and income. When I worked in Local Government we had to declare a box of chocolates!
I get fed up with the constant griping about other people’s wealth.
Being envious serves no useful purpose, there will always be others with heaps more money than I have.
‘Twas ever thus.
Wonder if she has received any failed PPE contracts? That's why it should be declared as a 'conflict of interest' as in Dominic Cummings FIL!
I think paddyanne that as you married into a Scottish family you’ve become more Scottish than some of the locals!
?
It’s a shame that the sainted SNP are so transparent........Oops that’s why after being ordered twice now they still haven’t released papers appertaining to Mr.Salmond??
Oh dear - predictably GN’s reasonable comments have deteriorated into the usual political vitriol.
He seems a decent chap to me and perhaps Boris’s successor?
Should you want a really nasty character to criticize - can I recommend Philip Green?
Asking for £30million, when his own family took dividends of £1.2 Billion!!
Davidhs to clarify.....only my first sentence was in answer to your comment.
Davidhs you won’t see a politician from any Party in a queue at the food bank either, or, come to that most people in the UK.
Sunak’s wife’s shares ( they may be worth a staggering amount although merely owning the shares is not your cash in the bank and share prices fluctuate) but they are her own, not the property of Rishi Sunak. If there are any conflicts of interest then he will have to declare them.
Paddyann your implacable hatred of Westminster and all things ‘tory’ leads you to make evermore sweeping statements.
its just another tory bending rules to suit himself, why is anyone surprised ? Its the one thing they excel at ,fiddling figures to benefit themselves their families and their backers...witness the billions handed over to companies that had no history of PPE production and one in particular who has managed to buy himself a million pound pad since her fleeced the taxpayer .
Thats one of the guarantees in life .tories only think of themselves .Thats probably why we haven't voted for a majority of Tories since 1955 yes that is NINETEEN FIFTY FIVE and their huge rise in popularity from Thatchers 24% to Davidsons 22% ( media speak I do understand 22 is lower than 24) is now 16% in the polls .
If you are a politician - even a local councilor, your family’s income is relevant, there are plenty of MPs with rich spouses.
Mrs Sunak is a business woman, wether her wealth is more than the Queen is irrellevant, HM has not got her own fashion brand or an entrepreneur.
As long as it is all transparent and above board that’s fine, company finances are notoriously misleading because share prices can be extremely volatile. I guess you wonts see them in the queue at the food bank.

You must try harder GG13. ?
I know........anything to distract me in between ironing bedding, will be glad when the ironing service reopens ?
You must try harder GG13. ?
As it’s only claimed he hasn’t declared his financial interests in full , I cannot see the point of getting wound up over something that might or might not be fact.
When the thread is about the Chancellor of the Exchequer and his wife, and somebody feels the need to bring their ethnicity into it when that has no relevance to the conversation, you better believe I'm going to get "nippy".
I'm well are that it's the 21st century.
Apparently he hasn't declared his financial details to the full - under the Ministerial Code that of close family has also to be declared, and it's claimed that he hasn't done this.
Several of you getting nippy hearing the words Asian and black. Its not racist to comment on statistics and it's well known that poor white boys do worse in many schools. Some communities have a strong work ethic and value education and some don't. An Asian I know complains about the pressure her sister puts on her kids. They must do well at any cost. The family is wealthy but miss out on other things.
I don’t understand what his wife and her family and their wealth has to do with him doing his job.
He is Chancellor of the Exchequer. He is responsible for making decisions on the government's business and tax policies. His wife's family are huge business owners and investors. No-one is saying that Sunak would make decisions to deliberately favour their interests, but it surely must be right that he declares these 'possible' influences on his decisions.
Also interesting to note that his father-in-law's company, Infosys, of which Sunak's wife is a major shareholder, has been a government contractor since 2015.
(I'm getting all this from the Guardian article, which I suggest people read: www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/27/huge-wealth-of-sunaks-family-not-declared-in-ministerial-register It's in other papers, too)
I don't want this to sound like the politics of envy, because although the thought of that wealth is staggering I don't particularly grudge it to them. But I do think that the milieu to which he is accustomed won't help to promote any understanding of the problems of the poor or the 'just managing'.
Sorry Riverwalk it’s the 21st century as long as Rishi Sunak has declared his financial details to the full, in my opinion what his wife or her family have is totally irrelevant.
GrannyGravy13
Riverwalk my husband and I have separate tax returns I do not put down his income or savings and he does not enter mine.
GrannyGravy but if you or your husband were in any position of public influence it would be relevant what your incomes are. I do understand the nature of separate tax returns.

A survey in the UK showed that on the whole white people are richer than black people but the richest people are Asian.
And the point is .....?
