Talking about food and shortages- Farron explains so well how so many family farms will go up to the wall and fail- and this will add to shortages. As said, what is a point of a Sovereignty that can't feed its people.

Ready to sacrifice all our agriculture, industry, services, and the income it brings- so education, NHS, etc, etc - for some fish we export? Really. Sheer stupid incredible madness.

The UK (mainly in Scotland) employs more people in fish processing than it does in fishing. The fish the UK processes is mainly imported, the price of which is likely to increase if we have to trade on WTO terms.

No. UK processors import fish from non-UK waters and then export it. That was a seamless process while the UK was in the EU, but it doesn't take a genius to work out that processors will probably consider relocating to a country in the EU, to save on red tape and tariffs.

... and to places where EU workers are allowed to work.

I think most of the white fish is likely from Icelandic and Norwegian ships who run their own fisheries policy. How that relates to the EU I have no idea

I'm not sure either David, but Norway does have a deal with the EU on fish. The three most commonly eaten fish in the UK are salmon, tuna and cod, most of which is imported.

I eat a lot of canned oily fish and I've just looked at the tins. The fish was caught in the Atlantic and canned in either Ireland (Republic) or Morocco. The British don't eat most of the fish caught in UK waters - fortunately our EU neighbours do, but it depends whether they'll be able to afford it, if tariffs are imposed.

Do you know what the agreement covers? The countries involved suggest it's about fish. Please post on here, if you find out any more details.

It would appear to mean trading on WTO terms, ie "no deal".

It makes me laugh how people think the EU is some kind of nazi dictatorship ( jackboot anyone?) when it’s a free trade organisation similar to one that every country in the world is in with its neighbours ( yes even the US and Australia.) I’m just grateful i’m eligible for an Irish passport and am still an EU citizen. At least I have some protection from the rabid Tories in charge of my homeland. If I were Scots I’d be rooting for independence too. It is also ingenuous and deceptive that Johnson talks about an “Australia “ deal when he could just as easily have said an “ Afghanistan “ deal and mean the same thing i.e. no deal.

It means, as far as I know, WTO terms or similar.

We abandoned Australia and New Zealand in favour of the EU many years ago and they have found new markets.
