How long should this last ?

I seem to remember a couple of years ago? that players were forbidden to wear a poppy as these were deemed to be political and apparently football is non political. surely bending the knee is political? or does this somehow not count as such, whereas respect for the fallen in conflict whoever they are or wherever they come from does?! Hypocritical band wagon anyone?!

Football matches in the 50's/60's were far more orderly and a form of enjoyment and entertainment for all with little or none of the violence etc. that we witness today.

Spectators today are a different breed and some are worse than wild animals from what you see on the news. Society is so full of hatred and violence it does make you wonder where it all comes from.

Racism is just used an excuse to vent the violence that a handful of these pea-brained idiots display, not only at football matches but most places where there are crowds and where they know that they'll get the attention that they attract----buses, trains, planes. If this behaviour is ignored and they lack an audience, then it'll stop.

By " taking the knee " only adds fuel to the smouldering fires of those as described so it's about time that these practices were stopped to give less cause for their need to retaliate in any way.

I think lots of people, in these very trying times, just want to go to watch football. They want a couple of hours when they don't have to think about COVID-19,and all that entails, whether they will have a job in the not-too-distant future as well as all of the other issues that we all have.
Yes, I know Millwall have that reputation, but sometimes people are just fed up with the world and want an escape from it.

There is so much racism at football matches - booing black players and monkey chants are just routine. Maybe some of you would join in with that as well. A small ant racist gesture should not cause such outrage , If that’s a sign the club want to root out racism then it should continue until they do. Why is it woke to be anti racist? I don’t get it.

I don't believe athletes will stop kneeling- And I dont believe entitled white people will stop booing and engaging in hatred for sport, as they always have-

I agree it is time for it to end. It would be ridiculous to go on for ever and it would loose any impact that was intended.

Yesterday’s football match between Millwall and Derby was marred by booing. Before matches now the players ‘take a knee’ to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement and some supporters took umbrage with this act and booed.
Is it time to end this homage and, if not, how long should it go on for ?

Until Black Lives Matter as much as white ones.

Dawn french in the upcoming Vicar of Dibley has shot herself in the foot. No one watches a lighthearted comedy programme to be lectured. The BBC has gone too far this time
especially as many feel it is already too woke it will be interesting to see if they publish the viewing figures.

I would support a Britain Against poverty movement or campaign.

I saw a report on BBC News about poverty in Burnley and it was very moving. Was there a whole programme on it EllanV as well please as I'd like to find it on BBC i-Player or ITV Hub if there is.

I've just watched a docu. about Burnley and it's left me devastated. Even the vicar/priest broke down at what he witnessed when the van containing food parcels stopped in an area where people had literally nothing. It was truly heartbreaking and shouldn't be allowed to go on. One poor soul with cancer hadn't seen a carer for 6 months----she'd literally been forgotten.

I believe black lives matter, I believe every life matters. I have always believed in equality. That doesn’t mean I have to support the continuing demonstrations at sporting events.

It was a powerful symbol at the time and place the terrible murder took place. It is not needed here.

I think exactly that.
Millwall fans in the past have been very racist of course, ( as have some other football club fans) but continually pushing the political BLM case like this will do more harm than good.

I think people are just weary. Weary of restrictions, worrying about loved ones, anxiety about jobs, bills, fed up with the same old news every day.

The powerful message put across by the BLM movement has not diminished. Protest fatigue is nothing new and I'm not surprised some are objecting to constant expectations of showing support.

I wonder what the reaction to the Vicar of Dibley taking the knee will be?

Can we not just have a comedy half hour without virtue signalling?

Unfortunately Millwall are famed for having the most disrespectful of fans in the U.K., despite all attempts to weed out the minority.

One of the worst experiences of my life was when I took my then 7 year old daughter Christmas shopping in Cardiff, on a day Millwall were playing Cardiff. They had police cars, vans, horses and foot patrol to escort the fans back to the station after the match, and they literally rampaged down the main shopping street shouting anti-Welsh abuse, knocking people over on their way, it was horrendous.

I hope with only 2000 fans in the stadium they will be able to pick up the offenders on camera and ban and convict them, it’s disgraceful.

Time to stop showboating now. I think the fans just want to watch a game of football (which they’ve bought tickets for) and in my opinion are entitled to enjoy it without a political message. I think the booing just said ‘oh get on with the bluddy match’ more than any racial slur.

And the bigger the divide between races----it's ridiculous ! The world's divided enough without causing further agitation.

It should only have been during the time it was deemed necessary/important with the unlawful killing of an unarmed man by a member of the police force.

The more the kneeling carries on the more it is going to create hostile behaviour.

I think it's up to the footballers to decide when it would be appropriate to stop.

I agree with other posters, the behaviour of the fans who booed shows that it needs to continue.

I’m just curious to hear points of view on this. I know it’s a different thing, but our evening clapping for the NHS was a temporary tribute.
