Presenter Kay Burley taken off the air by SKY news

She was replaced by another presenter this morning. She broke Covid rules by having a 60th pre-birthday bash with a dozen SKY colleagues in a London restaurant & then continued the party at her home.

She’s apologised profusely for ‘inadvertently’ breaching the rules.

SKY news say she won’t be back until next year.

Beth Rigby was there too. They’ve given a hard line to other rule breakers ‘are you going to resign over this?’ for similar breaches.

Wonder if she’ll resign? No, I don’t think so either ...

Lexisgranny Thu 10-Dec-20 10:46:42

Urmstongran Exactly. Do these people think that we are so stupid that we will forgive and forget? Both Beth and Kay have been penalised by being unable to report at such a significant stage in both Covid and Brecht, and frankly it is no more than they deserve. Would add that in my view this applies to anyone who flouts the rules.

And, of course, as you pointed out, Lexisgranny, she is going to Africa this week.

Travelling on a plane with hundreds of other people, although she will, I presume, not be travelling Economy.

Urmstongran Thu 10-Dec-20 10:30:53

Plus Lexigranny one of the party travelled from up here, Manchester (T3) down to London (T2). Beggars belief.

Bet Beth Rigby especially is missing all the political drama of this last week in Brexit negotiations!

‘My sources tell me ... ‘. blah, blah.
?

In the press this morning, further details are emerging:

10 people celebrated the birthday, sitting on 2 tables of 6 and 4 at the Century Club in Soho. this would break Tier2 rules
The details of this were verified by someone attending the party.

On leaving the restaurant two people left the group whilst others planned to continue celebrating at Kay Burley’s home. again breaking rules They wait for a taxi

Whilst waiting for the taxi, Kay Burley went to the Folie restaurant 5 minutes walk away, where according to a spokesman, she paid a bill and used the facilities. Shortly after this presumably, the group went on to continue partying.

Her tweet regarding the visit to Africa tomorrow to play with the lions was taken down and replaced with a fairly light apology, seeming to relate to the visit to the Folie restaurant and her need to use the loo.

As all this appears to have been verified, it is up to individuals to make a decision as to her actions.

Personally, I cannot accept the fact that a journalist whose job of late, has been heavily involved in Covid 19 matters would not be fully aware of the rules that not only was she breaking, but was encouraging others to do the same. It would appear that the restaurant and other guests are at fault as well.

It would be interesting to know who tipped off the paparazzi who photographed the group outside the Century Club.

I think you are correct about MPs unfortunately. That is why the MP for Peterborough was able to remain an MP and vote even though she done time in prison.

None of this was as bad as Cummings and the effect he had, given that he was writing the policy. He should have been sacked along with subsequent infringers. The fact he was patted on the head and it was all fine, did have an influence on others .

I don't think Covid-19 differentiates between whether these idiots are better or worse than each other. Anyone breaking the rules, whoever they are, ought to be sacked immediately. Don't wait for them to offer up their resignation because they won't. All they do is trot out the blanket excuses and hope it will all go away. They really believe the guidelines are for the hoi polloi. They make me sick.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 10-Dec-20 08:58:17

You are correct Lucca I think it is down to her constituency to de-select her.

Lucca Thu 10-Dec-20 08:55:49

“ Did she do the honorable thing and resign? Or did cranky sack her?........I would usually be more polite when referring to the First Minister but your post set the tone.”

Correct me if I’m wrong but I understood she couldn’t be sacked as an MP?

Iam64 Thu 10-Dec-20 08:20:36

Sky has no choice but to suspend or probably sack Kay Burley and any other employees involved in this event. London is currently in tier 2 and said to be heading for tier 3. The fact that other people have breached guidelines means nothing. She did. she should not have done so, her sense of entitlement got the better of her. How can she hold politicians, or people like Dominic Cummings, to account if she's done the same stupid, irresponsible and selfish things herself.

Well if Bojo had nipped it in the bud whn Cummings went tp specsavers people might be taking it more seriously

And the stupid mare SNP member of parliament. Travelled from London to Scotland KNOWING she had covid?

Did she do the honorable thing and resign? Or did cranky sack her?........I would usually be more polite when referring to the First Minister but your post set the tone.

Many of us are taking it seriously. I will not be seeing my DGC over Christmas. I know we can but that doesn't mean we should.

Covid is spread by contact. Burley broke the rules because she was in close contact with (10?) people not from her household. DC was a total prat but he was in his own car with people he lived with. His chance of infecting others was much less.

Same as the teacher (not sure if male or female) at local high school near here, attended an " anti lockdown" march in Manchester over the weekend.
100s of people there, some masked some not.!!!

Many pupils had been sent home in the last few weeks because of pupils being in contact with other pupils.

Lexisgranny Wed 09-Dec-20 15:50:25

“Callistemon”. ???. Regrettably no timescale was given, but we can but hope!

Blossoming Wed 09-Dec-20 15:40:35

These people think they’re above the rest of us and rules don’t apply to them. Sociopaths.

Callistemon Wed 09-Dec-20 15:32:13

I think that this person is summed up by her “see if I care” attitude, when she commented on Twitter (in relation to her removal from her regular slot) that she was going to Africa on Friday anyway
What - permanently?
There's always a silver lining!

Lexisgranny Wed 09-Dec-20 15:14:12

I must admit I do not care for her hectoring style of interviewing, I do not think repeating the same thing loudly over and over in the same monotone, is particularly edifying, though I quite how it might appeal to some. I think that this person is summed up by her “see if I care” attitude, when she commented on Twitter (in relation to her removal from her regular slot) that she was going to Africa on Friday anyway. I really can’t see how she would be influenced by anything Dominic Cummings did, she is too arrogant.

Lucretzia Wed 09-Dec-20 15:11:44

Hi MayBee70

As I mentioned upthread, I dislike her because she made Peter Andre cry

I'd never been that bothered by her before that

As for the Cummings Effect. I have to say I met nobody in the real world who trotted out the if he can do it I can do it

But that's not to say nobody did

It's all media fed.

And if it suits your agenda, great!

25Avalon Wed 09-Dec-20 15:09:44

DC has gone. Like the parrot in the Monty Python Sketch.

MayBee70 Wed 09-Dec-20 15:05:42

I don’t really understand all of the ‘I don’t like her’ comments. Is it the way she speaks, looks: her interviewing technique?

vegansrock Wed 09-Dec-20 14:52:39

You can’t pretend the Cummings effect did not happen, much as his supporters on here tried to brush it under the carpet. No it’s no excuse and two wrongs don’t make a right, but the fact that he was the power behind the throne making government policies made it worse. You could think well, if the governments chief advisor gets support for outrageously breaking the rules then why am I bothering? I know for sure many people thought that.

Jaberwok Wed 09-Dec-20 14:39:05

Maybe some members of the general public might have used D C as an excuse, but a highly intelligent, well educated intellectual? I don't think so!

MayBee70 Wed 09-Dec-20 14:24:00

She does look good for 60. But I was prepared (until I heard the details) to forgive her if the cause of her downfall was a weak 60 year old bladder!

quizqueen Wed 09-Dec-20 14:21:32

I don't like the woman but she certainly looks good for 60!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 09-Dec-20 14:19:01

No Kamiso it’s Kate Garraway’s husband who has Covid, he has been ill and in a coma since April, she said the other week they are trying to bring him round but without much success.

Kamiso Wed 09-Dec-20 14:16:04

Is she the one whose husband has COVID?

Did anyone you know copy DC? No one I know is that dim.

How is that relevant to Kay Burley’s Behaviour?

NotTooOld Wed 09-Dec-20 14:09:01

Unbelievable. angry
