What ever happened to the oven ready deal?
Oh Mr Johnson what shall I do?
You promised us an exit deal
Now it seems it wasn't true
Take us back to the EU
As quickly as you can
Oh Mr Johnson you're a very naughty man!
More verses welcome ! Or other appropriae jingles!

Ramblingrose22 Fri 11-Dec-20 18:12:53

I can well believe that Boris wanted the chance to speak direct to Merkel and Macron. He thinks his charm would overwhelm them and that they would do anything he wants.

He's been like that all his life because he managed to seduce a few desperate and credulous women.

Any administration would be better than his. Some idiot on Newsnight last night was saying it will all be fine because we British will all pull together.....! What? Pulling desperately needed food and medical supplies out of the containers they are in waiting in long queues at the ports?

silverlining48 Fri 11-Dec-20 19:17:55

It was made clear that barnier and Von de lyen were doing all the negotiation yet Boris thinks he can suddenly offer to visit macron and merkel separately. Obviously an attempt to divide and rule which has failed, but now he will say ‘well I tried’.).

Where is that oven ready deal and what’s happened to the millions for the nhs on the side of that bus. I despair.

I hope all 'divorce' money to the EU ceases on Jan 1st along with the no deal scenario. That will start to wipe the smirk off their faces and they can sue all they like but our courts don't need to recognise them any longer. This should be a warning to other countries who have dealings with the EU as it has shown them how they treat their allies. The UK has signed 57 free trade deals so far with the rest of the world.

trisher Fri 11-Dec-20 19:38:47

Actually there are 28 trade agreements involving 57 countries. The total amount agreed represents about £200 billion. Unfortunatly trade with the EU was worth £300 billion. I wonder who will plug the gap?

Nezumi65 Fri 11-Dec-20 19:57:11

The only smirking I’ve seen is from Johnson who is struggling to hide his glee at no deal.

Those representing the EU just look a bit bemused. (Along with the rest of the world)

Deedaa Fri 11-Dec-20 20:04:26

Do we have any proof that these 28 trade deals with 57 countries are going to be cheaper than the existing deals with the EU? Are they seamlessly going to cross borders without the mountains of new paperwork we have been warned about? What are we going to do about the extra distances involved and how is any of this going to compensate for the loss of freedom of travel, the loss of free medical treatment. the loss of grants to the poorest regions of the UK, the loss of Erasmus, the loss of Euratom and the total loss of respect from the rest of the world? Bitter? Moi? Yes I am!

Keeleklogger Fri 11-Dec-20 20:19:16

Shortly after the referendum in 2016, I said that the EU would never give the UK a good trade deal. The UK should have walked away years ago but our last parliament was full of undemocratic remoaner MPs who did their best to thwart, sabotage and even stop Brexit. Keir Stammer and his mate the vile Tom Watson were major campaigners for a second referendum because they didn't like the result of the first referendum. We had Labour MPs such as Hillary Ben and Yvette Cooper helping to create a law to rob 17.4 million Brexiteers of our no deal leave option, which was an absolute disgrace and completely undemocratic.

Typical French , they have held out longer for their fishing rights than they did defending their country in WW2

Nezumi65 Fri 11-Dec-20 20:32:22

Oh here it comes - No Deal is remainers fault. My husband asked me this morning who would be blamed when it all went tits up and I said remain. He was completely stumped as to how that could possibly happen.

Someone has to own this shitshow and it should not be people who campaigned for remain.

Ramblingrose22 Fri 11-Dec-20 20:48:50

Good evening Keelklogger*. Are you new to Gransnet or are you a previous member with a name change? There's quite a few of those about.

Who are you to judge the French? Have you personally experienced the traumas that the French soldiers and people had to endure in World War 1?

Perhaps you think all those Johnny Foreigners are a bad lot and we British are superior to every other country. Pathetic.

Blimey there are some nasty new arrivals on GN tonight, maybe they are inspired by the vitriolic nonsense posted by QQ who is such a desperate fan of Johnson and of Brexit that she thinks breaking laws and agreements are acceptable.

vegansrock Fri 11-Dec-20 20:56:21

The “new” trade deals with Japan et al are only rubber stamp mirror images of the EU one, so,we aren’t any better off there folks, and we didn’t have to do any negotiating. This whole disgusting shambles on the basis of a very narrow vote, many of the voters are now dead, well all have to pay the price, yes it was Johnson smirking and the EU leaders were very polite and measured and didn’t look like they’d just rolled out of a haystack. Those of you who are delighted with Johnson and his no deal ,pleased be assured a sizeable chunk of the country are not supportive of this shitshow, and we’ll continue to hold Johnson’s feet to the fire. The country is not united behind this and we’ll continue to campaign #notinmyname

Who are theses ‘nasty new arrivals on GN tonight’ ?
Perhaps you mean a few posters with differing ideas to your own?

lemongrove Fri 11-Dec-20 21:22:00

Keeleklogger isn’t a new arrival to GN nor has she had a name change.Neither is Nezumi65 .....but even if they were new they would have every right to their opinions on here.

One way or another Boris Johnson has been in the public eye for many years not least 2 terms as mayor of London and heading up the leave campaign in the referendum. Hence, his peccadillos have been well documented, if so badly percieved how come he managed to obtain an eighty seat majority this time last year and, in seats unimaginable in favour of the Conservatives since the 1930s? The dripping vitriol favoured here re: Johnson, the Conservatives and those that voted leave says more about the posters and their bigoted ignorant opinions than it does about our government. I voted remain.

Kandinsky Fri 11-Dec-20 21:26:17

I’m shocked, that 4 years on, some remain voters are still so angry about leaving the EU.
I just don’t get it. The vast majority of us will barely notice any difference.

I hope Boris tells the EU to stick their negotiations where the sun don’t shine & walks away with no deal.
We’ll be fine. ( & the EU knows it )

lemongrove Fri 11-Dec-20 21:27:52

Well said Sunny82z ?

Nezumi65 Fri 11-Dec-20 21:28:13

Unless you have a lot of spare cash you will notice a difference.

Kandinsky Fri 11-Dec-20 21:31:19

Plenty of people in this country have been living in near destitute conditions for decades - what good was being in the EU for them?

Nezumi65 Fri 11-Dec-20 21:36:08

I think the fault there lies with the Tory government rather than the EU. The EU didn’t drive austerity. The Tories need to own that one.

Unfortunately they will be one group who will be heavily affected by the economic downturn that is going to follow Brexit.

Sunny82z Fri 11-Dec-20 21:43:54

Thank you lemongrove.
You are right Kandinsky we just have to get on with it and we will and with all the talent and brilliant people there are in this country we will thrive.

Keeleklogger Fri 11-Dec-20 21:46:54

EU is dead in the water!! This is long overdue. Once uk leaves many will follow.

Any remoaner will have to concede this will be the start of the end of the eu. There is nothing in it for any country other than Germany and France

Dear god. The obsession with WW2. Always by people who were never anywhere near it.
You are right lemongrove keel is indeed entitled to their viewpoint, as are those who say they find that view deeply unpleasant.
