Is Boris's trip essential?

Boris is planning to go to Scotland to meet Nicola Sturgeon to discuss how coronavirus is being handled and I expect he will slip in the little matter of Scottish independence while he is there. Nicola Sturgeon has asked him not to go as it is not essential travel. It seems ironic that he is travelling all that way to talk about the virus, breaking his own rules on travel in the process.

Thé truth is many people are hurting through their use of drugs Firecracker. That is what hurts me along with the lack of compassion shown by you, irrespective of what Nationality one might be.

How do you know what my feelings are towards drug use. I was just stating that Scotland is the drugs capital of the world. Perhaps the sainted Nicola should concentrate on sorting Scotlands problems first rather than trying to break up the UK.

I must be missing something.
What exactly does any of that have to do with Boris's unnecessary and rule-breaking trip to Scotland, Firecracker? confused

Nothing.

It’s telling he didn’t meet any fishermen this time. Johnson, English nationalists and Brexit have done more for Scottish independence than the SNP.

Firecracker Your feelings towards anyone suffering through drug abuse are blatantly obvious when your nasty post to highlight the plight of drug abuse was used as a cheap shot at Nicola Sturgeon which, may I remind you, is not the subject we are discussing on this thread.

He did a great job today.......for the SNP!

Someone needs to tell him that his presence, even him speaking about Scotland is counter productive for the Conservative Party.

It was a pointless photo op to show he’s been to Scotland. He must have been bored to tears. One vaccination centre or factory must look pretty similar to another, I’m sure he’d have preferred a whiskey distillery, he could still have dressed up in a white coat and those purple gloves. Not remotely essential and risky with all the entourage and press following. It’s a vote winner - for the SNP.

Oldbat1 Thu 28-Jan-21 20:36:35

No there is no need for him to go on a 900mile round trip to do what exactly?

25Avalon Thu 28-Jan-21 19:34:43

Bercow

25Avalon Thu 28-Jan-21 19:34:32

No no anything but John Betcow, the poisoned dwarf.

varian Thu 28-Jan-21 19:18:14

Bring back John Bercow!

BTW the comments by Rees Mogg in the House of C. were totally insulting and personal attacks on Nicola Sturgeon. I just do not understand why The Speaker did not stop him in his tracks and asked him to apologise. This Speaker really needs to do his job - including insisting that Johnson answers the questions in PMQ, instead of going on pre-pared rant and attack to waste time and NOT ever reply.

Grannynannywanny Thu 28-Jan-21 19:09:43

Lucca I completely agree with you. At a time when the country is in lockdown and we are told not to leave our house or travel unless for essential and exceptional circumstances he set a poor example.

An 800 mile round day trip at the height of a pandemic, for a 5 minute photo shoot was ill advised. I fail to see what can be gained from it.

BJ's approval rating is 39%, but probably a lot lower in Scotland. I expect this nonsense will lower it everywhere but especially in SCotland.

biba70 Thu 28-Jan-21 19:04:17

NO

Happiyogi Thu 28-Jan-21 19:03:19

No, I do not think the visit was remotely necessary. If he’d wanted to dress up in a lab coat and pretend-play at being a virologist he could have done it at home. The outfit will be in the dressing up box along with his hard hat, hi-vis jacket and steel toe cap boots that he likes to show off on building sites.

Political campaigning during a pandemic is NOT essential and it’s quite possible that the health and maybe even lives of others were put at risk today in order to indulge his fantasies.

Did he bring Cummings or has he wandered off to Barnard Castle?

Lucca Thu 28-Jan-21 18:54:16

Oh well that’s absolutely fine then. Well done Boris have a great trip.
Can Nobody leave aside their political prejudices and agree that this is not essential travel ?
I’m nothing to do with SNP, I just think he’s setting a really bad example......again.

Alegrias1 Thu 28-Jan-21 18:52:37

Did anyone see the residents of Castlemilk on the news having their say about Johnson travelling to Scotland? Probably safe to say that they didn't feel supported, or feel any solidarity with the PM.

As the reporter said, next time he comes to Scotland, he probably won't go to Castlemilk.

LauraNorder Thu 28-Jan-21 18:50:36

Lucca Nicola Sturgeon does not have an official roll at Westminster

Lucca Thu 28-Jan-21 18:49:56

Have you thought how many staff etc will also have to travel up there ?

Is he just going up to try and offer her some sort of bribe/incentive to abandon a second referendum ?

I am sure he could do that on zoom.

Lucca Thu 28-Jan-21 18:48:08

I am Assuming that if nicola sturgeon travelled down to london to visit Boris you would support that as well ?

Urmstongran Thu 28-Jan-21 18:45:47

Yes. As did the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge when they visited Edinburgh a few months ago. It lends support, shows solidarity and avoids criticism of everything being London-centric. I’m sure very stringent precautions were in place and to be honest I think Boris should go up to Scotland on a regular basis.

Lucca Thu 28-Jan-21 18:36:48

Urmstongran

But maybe he has given a boost o those who don’t vote SNP?

In the middle of a pandemic should he be travelling, that’s the point ???

Urmstongran Thu 28-Jan-21 18:32:45

varian Thu 28-Jan-21 18:17:20

The point is that Boris is not very bright and has just given a boost to the SNP
