Last night after feeling unwell.

Fingers crossed for him.

Anniebach the DofE was not the only child to have an horrendous childhood. He was though, possibly classed, as one of the lucky ones compared to thousands who had no comfort or a feeling of being loved, given the opportunity of therapy with the best money could buy, thus enabling him to deal with his formative years and take up a position in which he was very fortunate indeed to have every comfort in life.

Did Phillip have every comfort in life ? , father a philanderer,
mother was schizophrenic, diagnosed when Phillip was 9. He was moved around family members homes.

No, not every comfort in life unless yet again wealth can wipe
all emotions even for a child.

I am not a royalist but I do feel for any couple, regardless of their circumstances, who have now reached a stage in their lives together, now having to face the clock is ticking towards time running out. No amount of wealth compensates for heartache.

Neither am I blind to the fact the DofE has had every comfort in life some people can only dream of. Such comforts which would possibly have prolonged their lives. These are the facts which positively sicken me when I see squandered wealth/lack of funds, cut backs which could and should be used to support the NHS/Care Homes whose main objective is to care for patients. These are the people who will be there to take care of us.

Those who pay for private health care free up NHS resources.

DIL’s paid for single rooms after delivering their babies in NHS hospital going towards NHS coffers

Sorry to be rude GG13 but that's one of the most ridiculous justifications for private healthcare I've ever heard. Are we meant to be grateful that those with enough money aren't using up the services we're all entitled to? That's how you end up with a two tier system where the better off are looked after in lovely surroundings with doctors on call all the time and the rest of us have to just make do with what's left.
Nothing anyone can say will ever change my mind on this. If someone needs to be in hospital, they should get the hospital treatment they need. Not think they have to pay for it.
And it's not jealousy, before anyone starts down that path. I can well afford BUPA but don't have it because I think it's immoral.
Guess I'm just a republican, lefty old radical.

My previous post included reference to the situation with poor Princess Latifa. Conflated two threads. Sorry.

I don't mind how much money people have as long as they pay their taxes in full. If they create employment so much the better. Interfering with blameless others' liberty is something else.

Hetty58 Fri 19-Feb-21 19:25:17

I'm not for or against monarchy - although I do tend to think they're outdated.

However, I wish anyone in hospital a speedy recovery and return home. It's a national disgrace that so many can't go home and are put into 'care' homes (oap prisons) instead, though.

Of course, that's not directly the fault of the privileged. People get what they vote for.

Anniebach Fri 19-Feb-21 19:13:11

What of people who have treatment from BUPA ? I couldn’t afford it so should not feel sorry for anyone ill and paying to have health care I couldn’t afford , money doesn’t come into it
for me.

LauraNorder Fri 19-Feb-21 19:10:56

All people are born equal, some are just more equal than others.
So true.
I happen to admire the Queen and have always been a monarchist but am increasingly swayed towards a republic.
I think the monarchy has run its course and we are ready for change.
I do wish Prince Philip well, as I would any person who is unwell.

Alegrias1 Fri 19-Feb-21 18:58:32

Are the posters with republican leanings against anyone born into a moneyed family or those who inherit from relatives?

I don't think anybody should get better medical care than anyone else just because they happen to be well off, whether they made it themselves or inherited it. They shouldn't be entitled to better education either. If they want to drive in a carriage, live in a big house and give their money to charity, I've no problems with that at all.

Pantglas2 Fri 19-Feb-21 18:03:54

Selective compassion......like some folks only believe in ‘the deserving poor’.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 19-Feb-21 18:03:38

None of us have a choice as to the family we are born into.

No doubt if those who are anti royal had been born into the royal family they would have a totally different point of view?

nadateturbe Fri 19-Feb-21 17:57:01

Suziewoozie he's nothing to me. I'm not speaking about him as a member of the RF. I just wish any person who is ill a good recovery. That's all I meant. I don't think it would say much about me if I wished anyone ill.

Anniebach Fri 19-Feb-21 17:55:37

Does wealth take away compassion,

Ellianne Fri 19-Feb-21 17:53:18

and hadn’t had to worry about getting a priority slot with WR
Do you mean Waitrose? Fortnums or Harrods surely!

suziewoozie Fri 19-Feb-21 17:48:58

I care about my neighbour . I know him. The Duke is being extremely well looked after that’s all that matters - how much longer he lives is a matter of complete indifference to me. I do care about all our older people who are not being looked after properly and all those in care homes who have spent the last year with very limited contact with family. He’s had the queen all this time and hadn’t had to worry about getting a priority slot with WR or who can pick up his prescriptions.

Puzzler61 Fri 19-Feb-21 17:41:33

I’m disappointed to see how dismissive you are of the Duke soozie when you started a thread today to say how lovely is it that some of your neighbours were taking an elderly resident for a walk, who is in his 90’s.
Could you not be more hospitable towards all nonogenarians?

Ellianne Fri 19-Feb-21 17:36:36

I think we are talking about it here because the OP actually asked a question on page 2 to widen her comments posted 2 days ago. Isn't that how discussions evolve? A new dimension just happened to pop up.

Rosalyn69 Fri 19-Feb-21 17:32:52

I don’t see why we are talking about M and H. Totally irrelevant.
I hope the Duke gets to go home. The Queen must miss him.

Anniebach Fri 19-Feb-21 17:30:47

Surely the thought of a connection between the Duke being admitted to hospital at the same time as his grandson makes his announcement can be expected?

Urmstongran Fri 19-Feb-21 17:29:20

Oh you know what I meant sw. Mr & Mrs instead of Duke & Duchess. Celebs status would be a flash in the pan then!

Remove their titles, see how quickly their new friends and business deals vanish.

Casdon Fri 19-Feb-21 17:25:52

I like your comment NellG, just about sums up this thread.

BlueBelle Fri 19-Feb-21 17:25:47

I thought this was about Dukie why does someone always have to spike it with poor old Meghan and Harry ITS NOT ABOUT THEM

suziewoozie Fri 19-Feb-21 17:23:00

Private citizens don’t get media coverage - what are you talking about. And anyway, in your dreams.?
