Meghan Markle Reportedly Wanted to Keep Her American Citizenship So She Could Get Into Politics Markle 2024?

This is a headline from an American magazine last September. Considering the last president was publicly known for a popular tv program what do you rate her chances?

And me, varian and RulaNula - Prince Harry’s childhood, not a life I’d want for myngrandchildren

Oh I haven't asked you to leave, suziewoozie.

Without you they would all die off anyway so we need your input.

And I too find it fascinating.

But just remember that we all have different opinions.

And that's what makes it interesting. We certainly don't want to live in a world where we all agree.

I was making a general point - apologies if you thought I just meant you. I rather think I’m not the only one of my persuasion do not sure why you’ve picked me out specially. And thanks for the reminder that we all have different opinions, I’d no idea that was the case

My OH is younger than the DoE, slightly older than Prince Charles, much poorer but nicer, cleverer, funnier and sexier than either of them, but his main advantage is that he is not royalty, not famous, not followed around by papoarazzi or ever mentioned in the gossip columns, so I would never change places with any of the Royals.

You and me both, varian

Bird in a gilded cage

It's not a life I'd want to live

MM has admirers

merlotgran Sun 21-Feb-21 18:12:08

Gregg Wallace is getting a pasting on a thread about him but I don’t see any circling sharks despite some unkind comments.

Any thread about MM offers them a feeding frenzy.

Overblown comments are also allowed, suziewoozie!

You can't dictate how people word things.

If I've told people this once, I've told them a million times

It's not up to you. It's not up to me.

People will post.

If you don't like it you can report it. It's that easy.

It might not get deleted though. Comments you find awful may well be acceptable by those in charge.

I’m not talking about reporting comments I’m talking about the right to criticise comments I don’t agree with without being asked why I don’t just leave the thread

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 21-Feb-21 17:59:50

This thread is not disgusting, it’s a meandering ‘whatever will she do next ? ‘ thread.
You’ve cast yourself as against anyone (on this thread) who has the temerity to say anything less than flattering About Miss M.
It seems that it’s giving you the vapours and I still can’t see any overblown comments on here.

GrannySomerset Sun 21-Feb-21 17:57:02

But M does have form for dropping people who have ceased to be useful to her so it’s not unreasonable to be concerned about H’s future .......

It’s not a binary position - criticising overblown comments about MM dies not equate with seeing her as the second coming ( which is another overblown comment imo).

Maybe Suziewoozie is right? perhaps we shouldn’t comment on anyone who is in the Newspapers, Television, Magazines, Politics or in the RF unless we know them personally.

I’m sure that Suziewoozie doesn’t......

When did I say that? I think you are mistaking my position

RulaNula Sun 21-Feb-21 17:47:31

Oh I'm sorry, Grany. I can't listen to James O'Brien. I really don't like him. I'd rather have Meghan and Harry round for afternoon tea

I don't think anyone on here actually hates Meghan. The word hate has lost its meaning somewhat. Calling people haters is just something that's been picked up on and I am now a hater of frogs apparently. I squealed in a rather juvenile way when I saw one on a walk with my grandson (aged 4) who then went on to say Grandma's a hater of frogs.

So I prefer to say I'm not keen on Meghan. I'm not keen on Emma Willis. I'm not keen on jazz music.

But I'm not a hater of these things

The papers are filled with the Royal shenanigans. The rag types/serious types/news outlets. It's International news. People are going to talk.

And there's a lot of talk about. I would have thought it quite normal for them to be discussed here. And to those who think H&M are the Second Coming, that's great. But you must allow those with a different opinion to voice theirs.

As long as no crime is being committed we are still at liberty to say and discuss what we want.

And long may it continue.

I know some Gnetters aren't keen on the Games threads on here. Do they go on to those threads and start throwing their opinions about? Of course not.

Live and let live smile

Really Suzy what you have said is pretty unpleasant. The OP started a thread so all posters can contribute, I see nothing nasty, poisonous or bilious about it.
I am not a Meghan hater, but this is a forum and posters are free to discuss this topic, since some like her some do not, that could be said for alot of people in the news and public life.

grandmajet Sun 21-Feb-21 17:43:49

I agree with Iam64, they just plain fell in love, and still are. Their wedding was watched and approved of by millions. I don’t know where it all went wrong, but I hope they find happiness in their new life together.
However, they can’t be counted as doing ‘royal duties ‘ I’m surprised they want to be.
Fingers crossed for the safe arrival of their new baby.

glammanana Sun 21-Feb-21 17:43:00

Did anyone watch the programme about Megan on channel 5 last night imo it put her in a totally different light.
At 12 she campaigned for women to be portrayed not just as the homemaker in television adverts and sent her feeling to Proctor & Gamble which changed their male/female ratio in adverts from then on.
She was engaged with many charities before she met PH and before she became famous in the film industry.
It would be so good to see her go into politics what an inspiration she is to young girls good luck to them both.

Anniebach Sun 21-Feb-21 17:37:04

Don’t think it’s fair to compare Megan to a Witch , a manipulator yes but witch is rather strong

suziewoozie Sun 21-Feb-21 17:35:47

Suzy calm down, not everyone is Meghan hater, I dont find this thread disgusting it's just a topic the OP wanted to discuss.

I find being told to calm down patronising

Suziewoozie and yet you are still on here reading the posts........

Just ignore it from your lofty seat and let the rest of us have 5 minutes writing about someone who is in the news, yet again.

It’s called social anthropology - there’s been many studies of phenomena such as mass hysteria and moral panic and many examples in history such as witch-hunting and here we have our very own GN example being played out in real time - fascinating stuff

I don't agree The the concept of monarchy

Deedaa Sun 21-Feb-21 16:34:21

I wonder how things will pan out in the future. Harry's novelty value as an ex royal won't last forever. Will they be able to build a lasting position as celebrity philanthropists?
