Just when you think they can’t sink any lower

Who knew The Labour Party have even claimed Passover ?

Same again Firecracker. You are scraping the barrel of little knowledge, aren't you?

Who knew The Labour Party have claimed Easter ?

They are wishing everyone a Happy Easter not branding it.

I find the Conservative branding insulting. I do not find this insulting and you are going to have to accept some people will feel that way however you want to paint it in the interests of one party. He got it wrong.

Anniebach

The secret symbol is - Ichthus

And ichthys means fish in Greek Anniebach, which is exactly what Callistemon said. Not at all sure why we suddenly have to use the Greek rather than the English?

I’ll just leave this here.....perhaps we should leave the politicians to their dirty point scoring and cultural appropriation and let them get on with it.

Interesting to see the people who can't see the difference between the two posts - if that is what you are saying janeainsworth?

Eazybee if you’re a christian fine to wish people good Friday but no need for the conservative logo added, surely ?

Would any Christian wish other people "Good Friday". Oh, come on guys, this is the day they believe that Christ died and at this point, no one could be sure he would rise from the dead. I seriously don't think so.

Why would Nadhim Zahawi even do that? It's despicable. Today is the day Christians celebrate the resurrection to the eternal life of the man who, to quote Richard Murphy (a Quaker), "campaigned for economic justice for the poor, the forgiveness of their oppressive debts, and for monetary reform."

Again, to quote Murphy "Jesus was an economic reform campaigner. He died four days after he overturned the tables of the money changers in the Temple."

How dare, simply how dare, Conservatives try to claim either Jesus or Christianity! I see he has done the same for Easter Sunday. At the very least this shows an appalling knowledge of our history, based for centuries on Christianity. A best it is insulting to those whose day of celebration this is.

So I'm heading into the lions' den now. That's an Old Testament reference - am I allowed that?

I read Trisher's 13:09 post as a dig at the Conservatives co-opting religious imagery to try to get their message across. Not a poke at religion, and to be honest with you an immediate assumption that we are making fun of religion is what makes it very difficult to engage in serious conversation with some people of faith. Its like walking on eggshells.

Why do you wonder if those of us who are Christians didn't find this offensive because we didn't look hard enough trisher? Do you find it so difficult to believe anyone can have a different opinion to your own?

Your post @ 13.09 is grossly offensive trisher. You may find the whole idea of Christianity amusing but I can assure you there are others on GN who do not, who take their faith and what this Easter weekend means very seriously indeed.

Your post @ 11.09 is equally offensive EllanVannin. I see it's been suggested that you are referring to politicians rather than GN's but even if that is the case, unless you have windows into the souls and hearts of others, who are you to say whether or not anyone is a Christian "by name but not by nature".

I'm sure that would have been His response Mollygo and just reading some of the disrespectful, self righteous and offensive posts on this thread, has reminded me how difficult that response is too uphold.

So Alegrias are you an atheist who just cherry picks parts of the bible because they mistakenly think it gives their point of view some credence?

I gave the reason why I wondered about Christians Smileless2012 if you didn't understand I'm sorry. I posed a number of questions for Christians, ir's up to them if they bother to answer.
As far as finding Christianity amusing, well some bits of it are hilarious. However I have always had a profound respect for the solemnity of Good Friday and the way it is presented. Passing the statues on my local RC church all wrapped in purple always made me think. Which is why I see this picture of a cross and the huge GOOD before Friday as just another propaganda tool, and why I am amazed Christians can't see it.

No, I'm widely read and able to recognise bits of many books which are relevant to my argument.

And I don't insult people who have a faith because I respect their point of view. Look hard, you won't find me disrespecting anybody for what they believe as regards religion. Unlike some who think it OK to sneer at atheists.

Mollygo
I think his message on Twitter would be:

Love one another, as I have loved you.

Don’t think anyone could argue with that.

I won’t look at this thread anymore, not even to see if my post has been deleted.

Political parties have posters associating them with a Happy Easter message , regardless of whether they are Christian or not, but none of them offer the vilification of each other’s party that you can read on here.
Happy and peaceful Easter to those who want one.

trisher Sun 04-Apr-21 13:09:26

Ok is this a case of putting all your eggs in one basket?? Or are the warning you to hang on to your nest egg?

Alegrias1 Sun 04-Apr-21 11:39:42

Mark 10: 21 - 22

Greeneyedgirl

If the Jesus we read about in the New Testament was here today, and had a Twitter account, I wonder what his posts would be? Would he be offended by this tweet I wonder, and what would his message be?

Possibly Psalm 37:8

I think EV is referring to the politicians not GNs.
I would hope anyway.

Alegrias1 Sun 04-Apr-21 11:10:29

What are we talking about? Who are the hypocrites?

I'm an atheist so I know its not me.....

EllanVannin Sun 04-Apr-21 11:09:16

There may be Christians here by name, but certainly not by nature. As the Bible quotes---"hypocrites".

EllanVannin Sun 04-Apr-21 11:06:32

" I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgement " Corinthians.

Political isn't it ?

Callistemon Sun 04-Apr-21 11:05:19

Although, to be fair, I'm not sure that the Lib Dems have done the same
smile

Callistemon Sun 04-Apr-21 11:03:46

They're all the same

Alexa Sun 04-Apr-21 10:55:14

The Conservatives will rake up anything at all to gain political points nothing too sordid, too stupid, too misleading, or too sacred.

Callistemon Sun 04-Apr-21 10:54:36

EllanVannin

I was led to believe that politics is found in the Bible itself ?

Yes, of course it was EllanVannin!
Some posters don't seem to understand that.

Jesus was a protester, a rebel leader.

Ellianne Sun 04-Apr-21 10:51:01

I said on Friday there might be a follow up on his Twitter account today and here it is.
