Good is an old english word meaning Holy. However there is a train of thought that Good can be used to describe this day as without Christ's death the glorious resurrection could not have happened, therefore his death was Good in every sense of the word. I suppose this poster might slightly offend practising christians, but why would it bother non believers? As a semi believer I think it's a bit of an odd thing to do but certainly not offensive.
He seems to understand the difference between wishing people well on a day of celebration and trying to associate one's brand with a religion. Unlike many.
I’ll just leave this here.....perhaps we should leave the politicians to their dirty point scoring and cultural appropriation and let them get on with it.
Perhaps the thread came to a natural end with your post and poster!
It isn't wishing anyone a happy Good Friday, it's acknowledging that yesterday was Good Friday. For some the cross is in itself offensive as it was a form of torture.
I'm not a Conservative but I am a Christian and don't find it offensive.
I agree, I wasn’t offended.
To me, he was just pointing out it was Good Friday, as so many seem to have no idea it was, or the significance.
She said it was because they ate fish at the last supper but the last supper wasn't on Good Friday was it? I get confused every year about the timeline of Easter, I suppose it's because I don't go to church which I would have thought would be more of a reason for me to go to hell, rather than eating duck instead of fish on Good Friday
You don't have to eat fish on Fridays or even Good Friday.
I think it was a decree from the Vatican centuries ago that Catholics should eat fish on Fridays as it is a cold, not warm, blooded animal and Jesus sacrificed his flesh for us on Good Friday.
The fish was also the secret symbol used by Christians when they were persecuted.
Thank you, that makes more sense than what my Mother told me. She is convinced I will go to hell as I ate duck yesterday instead.
