Just when you think they can’t sink any lower

Isn’t this what used to be called blasphemy?

Jaberwok Sat 03-Apr-21 11:35:05

Good is an old english word meaning Holy. However there is a train of thought that Good can be used to describe this day as without Christ's death the glorious resurrection could not have happened, therefore his death was Good in every sense of the word. I suppose this poster might slightly offend practising christians, but why would it bother non believers? As a semi believer I think it's a bit of an odd thing to do but certainly not offensive.

Alegrias1 Sat 03-Apr-21 11:21:24

Looks like the Rev Naylor got it right.

He seems to understand the difference between wishing people well on a day of celebration and trying to associate one's brand with a religion. Unlike many.

I got the image off twitter, by the way.

Callistemon I agree

I’ll just leave this here.....perhaps we should leave the politicians to their dirty point scoring and cultural appropriation and let them get on with it.

Perhaps the thread came to a natural end with your post and poster!

Everything since is (T)wittering.

It used to have so much more significance and there was no such thing as having a Happy Good Friday - the saddest day in the Christian calendar.

It isn't wishing anyone a happy Good Friday, it's acknowledging that yesterday was Good Friday. For some the cross is in itself offensive as it was a form of torture.

I'm not a Conservative but I am a Christian and don't find it offensive.

I agree, I wasn’t offended.

To me, he was just pointing out it was Good Friday, as so many seem to have no idea it was, or the significance.

Suzie by posting it here you gave it more publicity!

Agree.

Suzie you must stop trawling......?

Molly ?????????He branded it. You’d have said the same if Sturgeon or Starmer had done it?

They are party leaders.

Maundy Thursday is the day we remember the Last Supper

Thank you, you may have to remind me again next year smile

^This is quite different and you know it^.

I don't think it is, Suzie.

I failed to find the difference too Jane.

Maundy Thursday is the day we remember the Last Supper

JaneJudge Sat 03-Apr-21 10:46:33

She said it was because they ate fish at the last supper but the last supper wasn't on Good Friday was it? confused I get confused every year about the timeline of Easter, I suppose it's because I don't go to church which I would have thought would be more of a reason for me to go to hell, rather than eating duck instead of fish on Good Friday

Galaxy Sat 03-Apr-21 10:43:38

It would be worth it for duck though.

Ellianne Sat 03-Apr-21 10:42:58

I still don't understand why we have to eat fish

Perhaps it was a political move many moons ago to increase the fish trade!

Anniebach Sat 03-Apr-21 10:42:50

The secret symbol is - Ichthus

Callistemon Sat 03-Apr-21 10:42:22

So he used the cross and now some here are using the cross to
score political points,

Why did he use the cross? Lovely bit of shifting the blame there away from the instigator to the recipient ????

You don't have to eat fish on Fridays or even Good Friday.

I think it was a decree from the Vatican centuries ago that Catholics should eat fish on Fridays as it is a cold, not warm, blooded animal and Jesus sacrificed his flesh for us on Good Friday.

The fish was also the secret symbol used by Christians when they were persecuted.

Thank you, that makes more sense than what my Mother told me. She is convinced I will go to hell as I ate duck yesterday instead.

janeainsworth Sat 03-Apr-21 10:38:30

rafichagran Sat 03-Apr-21 10:37:49

I am not offended either.

I wear my cross and chain round my neck every day Annie, no one can take that away, or it’s significance.

Basically anyone opposing the current Government will trawl the internet and MSM for anything to attack them with.

This has nothing to do with religion, just political bias and frustration that Mr.Johnson and the Conservatives are the Government of the UK.
