I suppose Starmer's poll ratings could improve

Very interesting reading Casdon thank you

Anniebach Sun 25-Apr-21 16:56:07

Michael was a family friend, he was an honest , caring man, but
we can’t ignore the fact that after that defeat Labour didn’t gain
power for 14 years

Casdon Sun 25-Apr-21 16:55:28

This makes very interesting reading as it’s completed by Labour supporters.

I supported Michael Foot. That’s why I realise that the electorate just don’t go for socialist ideology. I know they should but they don’t.

Anniebach Sun 25-Apr-21 10:38:27

The Labour Party survived Michael Foot and Corbyn,

I have spoken out about him in the past Varian but my political affiliations are my concern so you have no right to assume I am a member of the LP or to take my comment about him as undermining him. I'll ask again (and let's spread the net a bit wider that GN) who in the LP has undermined Starmer?

varian Sun 25-Apr-21 10:13:54

If this is not an example of someone in the Labour Party undermining Keir Starmer then I don't know what is- unless I am wrong in assuming that you are in the Labour Party trisher

trisher Sun 25-Apr-21 10:06:29

varian

He seemed to me to be doing 9K but he is constantly being undermined by people in the Labour Party

Really Varian could you give an example of this please? Or is it just an excuse because Starmer isn't doing as well as people expected him to? Personally I've stopped saying anything about him I think he'll manage to destroy himself I just hope there is a LP left when he's finished.

Keir was brilliant today.

Dinahmo Wed 21-Apr-21 16:35:49

I watch PMQs most weeks. Most weeks, KS points out Johnson's errors, untruths, cronyism etc etc. Each time Johnson dismisses KS's views, calls him Captain Hindsight and then walks out. The Speaker should be more pro-active. Unfortunately (IMO) he is a waste of space and it is left to other MPs to point out when Johnson has lied.

jacqrose Wed 21-Apr-21 15:16:33

The only way we get a labour PM is for him/her to look and sound like a tory. Tony Blair being the best example. There’s a few years to go but overturning an 80 seat majority won’t be possible for Keir in one election. I don’t doubt his sincerity though.

MayBee70 Wed 21-Apr-21 14:02:14

What good will it do if Labour voters switch to the Greens? Just remind me how many MP’s they currently have and how many they may have at the next election and how they’re going to overturn the Conservatives majority?

Casdon Wed 21-Apr-21 13:47:04

Apologies trisher I got the words gain and lead mixed up, it comes of being irritated by the whole demeanor of the Starmer bashers and consequently skim reading whilst I was doing something else as well. Doesn’t detract from the fact that support has increased since Our Friend’s support plummeted to 20% though.
That’s not why I’m leaving this thread though. I’m leaving because this debate is not going anywhere. It wouldn’t matter to some people if he had 80% of the vote share, because however electable Starmer becomes he isn’t what you want. More importantly, disregarding personalities, if the party goes back to what you want it to be we can kiss it goodbye as it will be unelectable.

Callistemon Wed 21-Apr-21 13:29:02

Grany

Starmer's main selling point is he says he is electable but are people buying it?

I said he is electable, haven't actually heard him say it but then I don't avidly listen to any of them any more.

trisher Wed 21-Apr-21 12:54:54

Casdon

trisher if it gives you comfort, you carry on. Just please read the first paragraph of the Statista report I posted, which says word for what what I said. Also read the report I posted for the Welsh Government elections. I like facts not speculation.

I’m off this thread, it’s going round in circles and we will never agree.

Casdon It's not my fault if you translate a 24 point lead and a 12 point lead as meaning a 12% gain when what has actually happened is that approval for both parties has fallen. Perhaps instead of just reading the opening paragraph you should look at the graph and work things out for your self. So in March 2020 It was 54% Conservative and 28% Labour, in March 2021 It was 45% Conservative and 32% Labour. Statistically the Green Party seems to have made the greates gains having almost doubled its support
Still I understand why you are leaving. It's hard to argue on the basis of misinformation.

MayBee70 Wed 21-Apr-21 12:44:04

Well, it’s a pretty good starting point methinks....

Corbyn lost two general elections but is still praised by the far left, Starmer leader for only one year is criticised

Callistemon Wed 21-Apr-21 12:02:42

But he is electable unlike Corbyn and Momentum who were just a gift to the Tories.

Grany Wed 21-Apr-21 12:00:59

poshpaws

Starmer is a spineless, watered down Tory. Labour are going to dissolve into oblivion if they continue to have this limp noodle as their Party leader.

Well Said Poshpaws grin lots of people would agree.

Ilovecheese Wed 21-Apr-21 11:55:38

Don't sugar coat it poshpaws say what you really think grin

For once I find myself in total agreement with Keir Starmer regarding the incident with the Bath landlord who has now been on TV. Mr. Humphries is arguably a covid denier. He thinks Covid is seasonal and only affects old people over 80 and that lockdowns are totally unnecessary and was f and blinding Starmer for not opposing all the restrictions. Starmer’s wife works for the NHS and he stood up against blatant ignorance. Unfortunately his minders ushered him into the pub presumably away from the press.

The co-owner of the pub has now stood up for Starmer perhaps because local people are threatening to boycott the pub as the in no way agree with Humphries views. Good on you Kier - never thought I would say that. He was, of course, accompanied by Dan Norris who was Labour MP for the old Wansdyke area where he did a brilliant job. He is now standing for regional mayor. He will have my vote again.
