Prince Philip has died

It made me cry too tiredoldwoman. There have been some lovely personal and moving tributes to him.

Popped over to Windsor to pay our respects, we live nearby. All very respectful and calm in the town so far. Lots of cameras and film crews setting up and equipment arriving for the coming week. Deepest condolences to HM the Queen.

Many posts but wanted to express my sympathy to the Queen and i was surprised at how upset I was when I heard the news . RIP Prince Phillip

Well, I wish my poor old dad had had half the years that Prince Philip had. Philip had a very privileged life, and my poor father had a hard life.

I would like to say that I very much admire the Queen and wish her well. It is always sad to lose someone you love, as I know well.

I also felt sadder than I thought I would to hear of his death and my thoughts are with the Queen and family. I was only 4 when the Queen and Prince Philip married so he has always been there walking slightly behind the Queen for as far back as I can remember.

What really upset me was discovering there were already Trolls posting negative comments on the media. He did more for this country than they can ever imagine. Just why do some people have to be so unpleasant? If they can not think of anything kind to say keep quiet.

Oddly enough in the immediate period after hearing of his death I felt more upset than when my OH died very suddenly last year, I think on that occasion I was numb for a while.
I recall in the late 1950s he opened the new playing fields near my home and a few of us went down to see him. It was blazing hot and as we watched is group walking along I felt a bit unwell. the next thing I recall was waking up in the St John's Ambulance tent. Apparently, I'd started to faint and one of his party called to the St John's person 'Watch that girl she's falling'

I felt sad hearing the news, I liked him and liked the way he said what he thought. I’m another who has never known anyone other than the Queen as Head of State, with the constant support of her beloved Prince Philip and my heart goes out to the Queen.

I feel more sad than I thought I would about this. I can't imagine how it would feel to be married to someone for such a long time and losing him. At least the family were able to be with him at the end. I know from experience how important that is.

He was very old but it’s still sad for his family. So unfortunate his last few months were scared by witnessing the family washing their dirty linen in the public domain. The equivalent of Jeremy Kyle. Couldn’t have helped his health when listening to his precious family at war, akin to an American soap opera. RIP DofE

He's been the Queen’s consort for all of my life and that of my AC’s and grandchildren too, so it feels like the end of an era!
Its sad he couldn't have had his 100th birthday though.

So very sad. He's been there for the whole of my life and been a superb support for the Queen. He cared about the environment, co-creating the WWF and raised millions for a variety of charities. I met him once, when he visited our town. I was in the crowd with a couple of neighbours and he stopped to have a brief chat with us. Loved his none PC attitude too. He'll be missed. My he rest in peace.

Craicon can you name anyone who is entirely without sin? Although there was rumour about his womanising no one has ever produced any evidence. He was a man who enjoyed the company of women. That can be done without committing adultery. His marriage was clearly a happy one.

Evidence of his racism seems to be limited to a few stupid jokes, and that is about all and yes, he enjoyed shooting and once shot a tiger. That really is not much over 99 years.

On the other side he set up the Duke of Edinburgh awards, which over 3 million youngsters have benefitted from worldwide, provided the Queen with with crucial support over 73 years of marriage, a clearly happy marriage, was ahead of the crowd in heading the conservation movement in this country and spoke early and often about climate change. On the radio at lunchtime a commentator credited his action as being why we are the only country in the world where, even conservative (with small and capital C) have embraced climate change and made more progress in going green than any other country.

Sure he wasn't perfect, but If St Peter has a balance outside the pearly gates I feel confident that the good in the scales currently outways the evil.

Remembering a couple of your posts on other threads, as well as this one, you clearly struggle with the concept of compassion.

I am sorry Prince Philip has died but at least he had a long and pampered life.
What I can’t understand is how people speak as if they knew him personally, I.e he was a lovely man, and feeling sad and upset that he has died.
I’m really not getting at anyone but I honestly don’t understand it.

Very sad, he was such a handsome man even in later life and even so thoughtfully did the most to prepare the Queen for a life alone after he retired from public duties. Theirs truly was the fairy tale romance.
