He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

A bad day for me hearing this news. Coming on top of hearing that my dearest friend was moved into a hospice this morning.

It did seem that his death might be imminent after such a long hospital stay, it's a shame he didn't make it to a 100.

How sad for the Queen and the rest of the family.

RIP Prince Philip

To lose one's husband after such a long and happy marriage, cannot be other than deeply shocking, no matter how expected.

He was dealt very difficult cards in life almost from birth and posterity will judge him more highly than has happened during his life.

Such sad news today and a very hard time for the Queen after all the years they’ve been together. RIP.

What a terrible day for the queen. I hope her family can be of some comfort to her. RIP Prince Philip.

I’m very sad too, and hoped he’d make his century. So sorry for the Queen. It will be interesting to see what arrangements for his funeral will be, given the times we are living in.

Such sad news today. Really hoped he’d make it to 100. Thoughts and prayers with Her Majesty and the Royal family.

Saddened to hear today's news. Such a pity that he didn't make his century. It feels like the end of an era. I'm sure the Queen is going to be bereft without his support.

Can't add any more to this. My condolences to the Queen and her family.

So sad to learn of it. Glad it was peaceful and at home. The poor queen! I wonder if she’ll turn her face to the wall without him?
Interesting funeral if none of the European royals won’t be allowed to attend, ditto for the family.

I was watching the Ambulance programme on tv, and they broke into the programme. At first I thought the Queen had died, which scarcely seemed possible. I’d completely forgotten about Prince Philip.

Shame he didn’t reach 100.

Such a sad loss at least he had the opportunity to be at home surrounded by his family.

Savvy Fri 09-Apr-21 12:38:15

I can't help but wonder how Harry is feeling right now.

CleoPanda Fri 09-Apr-21 12:34:58

Definitely the end of an era. What a loyal and steadfast man he was.
Feeling heavy hearted for the Queen.

eazybee Fri 09-Apr-21 12:34:53

I am saddened by this news, although it was expected.

Pittcity Fri 09-Apr-21 12:32:35

Sad, but not unexpected, news.
DS, who is currently at home on leave from the Navy, has been put on standby as a well rehearsed Operation Forth Bridge swings into action.
The BBC have wheeled out Nicolas Witchell!

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 09-Apr-21 12:31:37

RIP.

He will be sadly missed by his family.

Septimia Fri 09-Apr-21 12:31:17

I hoped he'd make 100, too. It'll be hard for the Queen without his support.

He wasn't perfect (who is?) but I liked his, erm.... forthrightness.

Sad day.

I feel surprisingly sad as well. Obviously expected but a sorrowful time for the RF.

LauraNorder Fri 09-Apr-21 12:29:38

RIP Prince Philip. Duke of Edinburgh.
God bless our Queen and all the family.

Jaxjacky Fri 09-Apr-21 12:29:34

How sad the Queen has lost her rock. I liked him, RIP Sir.

Calendargirl Fri 09-Apr-21 12:29:12

Not unexpected obviously, but it still saddened me very much.

When the Queen goes, it really will be the end of an era, I don’t think we can comprehend how much of a difference it will make to our country.

Last night watched a documentary about the early years of the Queen’s reign, you realise what a huge support he has been to her all these years.

RIP.
