He had a good innings. I liked him, he was a feisty one who spoke his mind.

A bad day for me hearing this news. Coming on top of hearing that my dearest friend was moved into a hospice this morning.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I thought when he came out of hospital & then no further up-dates, that he had, indeed, gone home to die.
I had hoped he would make it to his 100th Birthday.
EV,x It has really affected me too, more than I would have imagined.

My thoughts & prayers are with the Queen & her family.

That is sad, for the Queen and everyone. He's been there all my life.

Poor Queen.

Very sad. sad

LullyDully Fri 09-Apr-21 12:59:57

He was such a character and has always been there, all my life. Sad, but expected. A sad time for the Queen and her family.

Looking at footage of him as a young man, he lives on through William in particular.

There's a documentary about his life from childhood and his disrupted family life. It's so interesting.
He overcame all the obstacles and what a great life he's had.
What an influence on so many people.
A sad day today but as a nation I feel we were blessed to have him serving for so many years alongside our Queen.
RIP Prince Phillip ?

trisher

I wondered when he was released from hospital if it was just to die at home. He's lucky many don't get that. RIP.

In my opinion trisher it's an experience not to be wished for.
Not that PP would have been treated the same as my Father or others I've heard of.
But that's another story.

Savvy

I can't help but wonder how Harry is feeling right now.

I assume he is feeling the same as all the other grandchildren. With covid restrictions, I don’t imagine many of them will be able to turn up at Windsor to offer their condolences.

Well, I'm sad too and I'm a republican who didn't always like him. He did liven up and modernise the royal family though, loyally support the queen and I think forthrightness is generally an asset . A great pity he didn't quite make his centenary.

Nightsky2 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:04:39

Very sad news. RIP. Prince Philip.

I'm glad he was allowed to go home to die, surrounded by familiar surroundings and family. RIP Pip

It’s very sad news. I was surprised how saddened I felt given his great age and the fact that I don’t know him personally. RIP Prince Philip.

I can`t stop feeling so sad for our Queen.
RIP Prince Philip.
Much love.

I was so sad to have heard this news announced on the radio earlier.

Prince Philip was one of my favourite Royals. I loved his sense of humour, how he joked to put people at their ease when meeting the Queen.

He apparently had an exemplary career in the Royal Navy, and will also be remembered the world over for his Duke of Edinburg Award Scheme.

Most of all though he will be remembered for being the Queen’s consort for 70 years, the longest serving consort in the world.

A sad day for us all.

This news has upset me and I’m not ashamed to admit it. A character and loyal to The Queen. A sad day.

Kittye Fri 09-Apr-21 13:12:10

Like lots of others I felt quite emotional. I think it’s because of how the Queen must be feeling ?

DanniRae Fri 09-Apr-21 13:12:39

Sad news to hear about Prince Philip I wanted him to make his 100th birthday.
He looked so ill when they let him go home from hospital and probably it was only a matter of time for this to happen.

Smileless2012 Fri 09-Apr-21 13:25:38

The Queen must be heartbroken, just thinking about that brings tears to my eyessad.

polomint Fri 09-Apr-21 13:27:33

Very sad news but not unexpected. I'm glad he was at home when he died and I had hoped he would reach his 100th birthday. Feel so sorry for the queen. I wonder how the funeral arrangements will be done. Feel sorry for all the members of the Royal family. I really liked Phillip

ShelaghALLEN Fri 09-Apr-21 13:28:21

As a Canadian, I offer my condolences and I mourn with you.

May Prince Phillip rest in peace and may God bring comfort to our Queen.

Nannatwiglet Fri 09-Apr-21 13:28:56

RIP Prince Philip. Sad news for the Queen &Royal Family.

JenniferEccles Fri 09-Apr-21 13:30:33

I am sure I am not alone in saying I have so much respect for the Queen.

She must have known that her beloved husband was dying yet over the past weeks and months she has continued to carry out her public duties with her customary smile, when inside her heart must have been breaking.
