They don’t help themselves do they?

I can hardly believe I’m going to post this but does anyone else find it hard to believe that Harry and Andrew who actually saw active service for Queen and country are to wear suits for the funeral rather than uniform? I understand why this decision has been made and I think it stinks quite frankly - designed to humlitate. I don’t know why they’re not wearing sackcloth and ashes actually - petty, vindictive, what a lovely family they are.

I thought they were sticking to the rules of 30? I imagine it will be grandchildren only, not their spouses, except maybe Kate as she will be a consort at some point...I have learnt a new word and I going to keep using it smile
So there will be
The Queen
Anne and her husband
Zara
Peter
Charles and Camilla
William and Kate
Harry
Andrew
the two daughters whose names escape me
Edward and Sophie
Louise
I am not sure how old their son is but that's already 17. All the great grandchildren are young aren't they? I don't know if he has surviving siblings or nieces and nephews on his side and presumably he has close friends. Surely they are all more important than the rather new wives and husbands of the grandchildren?

The baby is suppose to be due early summer, this could be June, Flying to the U.K., and facing the family she has criticised on tv would be certainly the wrong thing to do when pregnant.

seamstress From the photos of her recently she is either very pregnant or she has been comfort eating in a very big way, and her appearance is too important to her for that to be true. I am inclined to believe that her doctors have advised her not to fly, as that is their advice to most women at her stage of pregnancy. She probably doesn't want to come, full stop. Not wanting to be the centre of attention is irrelevant.

Why the dig about her appearance being important to her? You mean as opposed to KM who put on stones in all her pregnancies and well, just let herself go ?

I had originally added "in her career" but decided to remove that because some nitpicker would attack me for assuming that only someoneone with a career on the stage would value her looks. Of course her appearance is important to her, but not any more so than to any other young woman who is in show business. or to any woman, young or old.

I KNEW that you would pick up on my post and assume that it was a dig.but I left it as it was. Why should I tailor my posts to your sniping? Do you think the worst of every post you read? Thank heaven not everyone does.

Callistemon

And what all this comes down to is that this thread is all about what the family are going to wear for the funeral of a beloved father and grandfather!

?

Callistemon ...brings back dreadful memories of a dear loved ones funeral.

People wanting things one way or the other, arguing they were closer to the deceased than another.

And to cap it all, a drama queen hijacking the proceedings whilst insisting she wasnt!

Give me strength, I just wanted the wishes of the dead to be granted and get away from it all.

I wonder if the Queen feels that way?
Or indeed Princess Anne, she was very close to PP afterall, and presumably knew well that PP would have hated the thought of people grandstanding and using his funeral to benefit their personal Twitter profileangry

I feel for the closest relatives.

I’ve scanned through most of the 12 pages on this thread and can’t believe that some people have the time or inclination for all of this. I’m going to dust my bedrooms which will be more useful and interesting!

Trying to turn the tables is a bit daft. You know what you were implying when you said said she cared about her appearance as though this was unusual for women in the public eye. If your posts aren’t clear, it’s not against the guidelines is it for other posters to point this out. I’m the butt of that enough ?

Nannan2 Wed 14-Apr-21 12:55:02

You would think the queen would give her permission then, as their mum/gran- so they could both salute their much loved dad/grandad, and as a previous fellow officer.Your right, the Royals are petty sometimes.?

Meghan is pregnant and it is due in summer possibly June.
Nobody wants to see her in the U.K. although like her or loathe her it would create too big a risk for her to fly right now and sensibly she is staying in California. How fortunate that she cannot come and Harry has come alone so most of
those in U.K. are able to deal with that.

I hear that Harry is due to come over later in the summer to unveil the memorial statue of Lady Diana perhaps Meghan will accompany him

Calendargirl Wed 14-Apr-21 13:01:48

If all the GC come with partners, will still only be about 20, including James, Louise’s brother.

So would still accommodate a few of the D of E’s relatives, i.e. Lady Pamela Hicks (first cousin) and Penny Mountbatten. Not sure what nephews and nieces he has, but if they have to fly in they will have to quarantine.

It’s suggested some chap in the Queen’s ‘bubble’ might be the only one allowed to sit with her in the chapel.

Bit of a sweeping statement shock. Have you asked everybody?

The thing is, the issue of Meghan and the funeral was a gift wasn’t it as whether she came or not, there were multitude sticks to beat her with. I’m sure it’s best for her not to have come, pregnant or otherwise, and I also think it gives H a chance to be with his family on his own.Much as I love my sil I really enjoy seeing my dd without him for a different experience.

Calendargirl Wed 14-Apr-21 13:17:35

I don’t always agree with you suziewoozie but I did agree with the last couple of sentences of your previous post. It echoes something I posted earlier.

I think it will be good for Harry to see his family on his own.
I too like to spend time with my DD on her own, but seldom get the chance.

grandmajet Thu 15-Apr-21 08:40:27

I think it’s a shame Meghan couldn’t come, but unwise to fly at this time in her pregnancy. In the interview she sounded quite fond of the senior royals, and Harry would probably like the support of his wife.
I do agree, however, that he may be able to mend some bridges with his family better if he comes on his own.

Republic From six years ago. Prince Andrew, already facing questions about his relationship with Epstein, promoted to vice-admiral in our Navy by his mother, as a birthday present.

Putting away the dressing up box. The royal attitude towards our military is disrespectful of genuine military service. They should only wear medals they have earned and only wear uniforms and ranks if they are serving officers.

The Queen promotes her children to senior military ranks as birthday presents. Why that isn't a scandal is a mystery.

Smileless2012 Thu 15-Apr-21 09:33:41

I've just read on a news feed to my laptop that no one will be in uniform for Prince Phillip's funeral to save any embarrassment to both Andrew and Harry.

Anniebach Thu 15-Apr-21 09:35:59

Or save any embarrassment from both Andrew and Harry

I couldn’t agree more - very well put. Time to grow up in other words.

It is time that the awarding of those meaningless titles and birthday promotions was scrapped. I hope that Charles will discontinue this ridiculous practice when he inherits the throne. That would be a good start to the modernisation of the RF.

And how about simplifying all titles - we could have King/Queen ( and both titles used regardless of the sex of who the crown passed to) then ( if you must) prince/princesses for sovereigns children only. All other titles to be abolished everywhere.

vegansrock Thu 15-Apr-21 09:46:57

Vice is a good title for PA, wonder why he wanted a promotion.

Parsley3 Thu 15-Apr-21 09:55:48

SW yes to that. Just out of interest, will Catherine called Queen as the wife of a King? I know that Philip could not be King as kings are so much more senior to queens (ha!) but traditionally the wives are allowed to be called a Queen.
Where is a Royal correspondent when you need one?

I know - utterly ludicrous and only in the last few years have we brought in the first child inherits rule. I so wanted George to be a girl ?

He was actually given the Admmiral title for his 60th birthday ( yes I knew ???) but it wasn’t confirmed because by then the Epstein issue was in the public domain. So fittingly he remains at Vice level
