Mr Johnson and Mr Cummings

Demonic has suggested that Mr Johnson has been not entirely honest about his communications with James Dyson.

I recognise many people believe Mr J was ‘doing his best for the country in a pandemic’ when he offered to sort the tax for Mr Dyson. But, do we want ethical government or not?

Gagahgran he's the boy who cried wolf. He's a proven, consistent liar. He was sacked from his job for being a liar. He lied to the queen for goodness sake.

It doesn't make sense to take anything he says at face value because his default setting is lying. I'm not sure he even knows he's doing it.

Alegrias1 Tue 27-Apr-21 17:05:43

Sorry - Gajahgran, I got your name wrong.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 27-Apr-21 17:10:19

The bodies comment/outburst allegedly happened six months ago.

The timing of the leak is suspicious, obviously the Westminster Bubbles intentions areto damage the Conservatives standing in the local elections next week?

We mustn’t forget that the PM has been under huge pressure all along even from his own MPs, some of whom have wanted a different approach to the pandemic.
Judging by his reaction it’s likely some were insisting that a third lockdown at some point was inevitable, even desirable hence his emphatic turn of phrase.

If we had been privy to the conversation immediately prior to the alleged (and don’t forget it’s still only alleged) remark from Boris a lot of people may view it in a different light.

Politics is a dirty game and I expect there will be more ‘revelations’ to come from a vengeful individual.

For goodness sake let’s cut Boris some slack and allow him to get on with the job in hand.

No ones stopping him getting on with the job in hand. It just seems that he’s always too busy doing other things. Visiting schools, laboratories, playing football. Getting divorced, getting engaged, having baby showers. Missing COBRA meetings. Would anyone on this forum actually make the comment he did about bodies in ANY context I wonder? I know I wouldn’t.

A little brevity whilst we all await some facts.

Gajahgran Tue 27-Apr-21 18:46:12

Urmstongran - I like your joke.

MaizieD Tue 27-Apr-21 18:52:23

So...

If it were actually proven, say with a recording, that the PM said "No more *ing lockdowns - let the bodies pile high in their thousands!" would people *still be saying that he didn't really mean it, poor lamb, he was under stress?

hmm

MayBee70 Tue 27-Apr-21 18:55:08

I may have had a sense of humour bypass but I don’t think it’s something to make cartoons of or be amused by. Sorry.

Any bets on who originally paid for the Russian brothel at No 11 flat?

My money is on Dyson or the Carphone bod.

Urmstongran Tue 27-Apr-21 19:16:57

This thread just runs on speculation, innuendo, snippets from toxic Twitter, unfettered joy in hoping to do Boris down and manufactured outrage.

In my opinion.
?

MayBee70 Tue 27-Apr-21 19:45:44

What do you mean by manufactured outrage?

Kali2 Tue 27-Apr-21 20:05:02

Manufactured and paid for loyalty / more like

GrannyGravy13 Tue 27-Apr-21 20:05:58

Basically gossip Urms ??

Thanks so much for adding “Demonic” and “Carrie Antoinette “ to the family vocabulary, that’s cheered me up no end.
Can I go back to not watching the news or reading the paper now, please? Just keep me posted on any funny bits ....

I doubt if Sky, BBC and ITV get their news from Twitter.

No, no unfettered joy in doing Johnson down. There won't be a General Election, so we'll still have a Conservative government and the alternatives might not be any better, although it might send a signal that the public does care and won't put up with sleaze and cronyism

It's interesting that some people really do not appear to care about the morality of their leaders and will do anything to excuse them.

What about the other allegations? Were they caused by stress too?

It's likely that the "Westminster Bubble" is within the Conservative Party itself. Why didn't they wait until after the local elections?

What Johnson did or didn’t say will just be based on what people say they heard. But the scandal about the flat will have a paper trail.

vegansrock Wed 28-Apr-21 06:54:47

Who needs a £5k drinks trolley, 2.5 million briefing room, 15k freebie holiday, and other extravagances isn’t the point - it’s the lying and coverups about it , plus the missing Cobra meeting to sort out the wallpaper that is the scandal.

PippaZ Wed 28-Apr-21 07:11:10

It is certainly pleasing for all, not just those working for the government, that the Civil Service union (FDA) has won the right to a full court hearing into Johnson's decision that Home Secretary Priti Patel had not broken the ministerial code over bullying allegations. I hope for a large kick in the privilege from the court.

Do we want an ethical government, or not?
So many issues have been raised on this thread that suggest the country is being led by a PM for whom ethics don’t matter.

‘Brevity’ linking the obscene cost of the Downing Street refurb to bodies piling high - not in the least funny.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Apr-21 08:13:10

Whilst Johnson was busy spending obscene amounts if other people’s money on his temporary flat, he was denying children food.

Tesco’s CEO said this morning that covid has increased the difference between the poor and the rest of us in the U.K. and it must be addressed.

Johnson doesn’t seem concerned though.

This is not an ethical government.

She was found guilty of bullying.

Johnson chose to ignore it and allowed the situation to continue.

Tongue in cheek comment in Michael Deacon’s sketch article in the Telegraph this morning made me smile.

Here’s an excerpt:

“During the Barnard Castle affair, Labour called Dominic Cummings a lying scoundrel who would say anything to save his own skin. Now he has made allegations that could damage Boris Johnson, they have decided Mr Cummings is a model of integrity whose word we can trust.

Tories, too, have been showing themselves admirably receptive to fresh points of view. During the Barnard Castle affair, they called Mr Cummings a model of integrity whose word we can trust. Now he has made allegations that could damage Boris Johnson, they have decided Mr Cummings is a lying scoundrel who would say anything to save his own skin.

It is heartening to see politicians demonstrate such eagerness to reassess their assumptions. Let them be an inspiration to us all.”

growstuff Wed 28-Apr-21 09:07:41

The real issue is that they're all a nest of vipers and there's any truth at all in the allegations - and there is.
