Anyone understand why Johnson is so far ahead in the polls?

I don’t.

Congratulations to the nhs for organising the rollout of the Covid injections - nothing todo with BJ.

The Forces had a hand in it too - logistics is the speciality of the Royal Logistics Corps oddly enough.

How depressing that so many people encourage liars like Johnson. He has been a liar all his life and will continue to be. Congratulations to the nhs for organising the rollout of the Covid injections - nothing todo with BJ.

Who do you think appointed Kate Bingham?
That’s if you know who Kate Bingham is ?

It looks horrible. That’s all I have to say on the matter.

I thought you'd seen the wallpaper, maddyone

I think tribalism also is a factor, reading some posts.

I'm trying to be factual.

It's not easy on GN!

What about Boris peering through a schoolchild's microscope? Playing whiff whaff with the lads? Driving all manner of heavy machinery, all for our edification?

A roll of wallpaper in John Lewis seems tame by comparison.

You may very well be correct Alegrias, but Johnson’s government have delivered the vaccination programme. Anything else he does will be overlooked in my opinion, because as one poster pointed out, the ‘average’ person in the street cares little for wallpaper or microscopes, they’re all just photo opportunities. The ‘average’ person cares about meeting up with friends and family again, going to the hairdressers or the pub, and hopefully going on holiday somewhere this summer. The wallpaper choices of either Johnson or Starmer are not considered important. After all, the OP asked why Johnson is ahead in the polls, and I’ve tried to answer the question.

Have you seen the alternatives? Many don’t particularly like him, but realise he is the best of what is on offer.

One has to wonder who could replace Boris at the moment if they wanted to get rid of him?

Yes he has flaws (who doesn't) but he has charisma and is a proven winner.

If he can get back to how he was before covid with all his enthusiasm and energy for our country, I think he will be unstoppable.

That's why the left are worried in my opinion.

Lillie spot on (so not so simple ?!). ?

Oops, mistake, wrong thread. Meant to be on the Tony Blair’s hair thread.

Speaking of two faced liars.....voted in three times! Who on earth did that! Three times!

JaneJudge Fri 30-Apr-21 10:36:36

He looks like poor Rick Wakeman but minus the keyboard

I think tribalism also is a factor, reading some posts.

Humans have belonged to tribes since caveman times, nothing changes.

Or ug, they see a shifty looking middle aged man with a dubious sexual history in a school playground near their pre-pubescent children.

(Too much?)

Scraping the bottom of the barrel with this nasty post!!!

is taken as gospel by some
Most, I think, believe Cummings is vengeful, spiteful and malicious.

Witzend

I’d say it’s down to the success of the vaccine roll out (regardless of the brains behind it) added to the easing of lockdown,
plus equally or maybe even more so, the lack of a forceful and inspiring opposition.

As for current news, I doubt that too many people honestly give a monkey’s about who paid for fancy wallpaper etc., as long as it wasn’t the taxpayer - in the great scheme of things the money is a mere fleabite.

I would say that is spot on, Witzend.

Added to that is a dislike and mistrust of Cummings and disbelief in anything he has to say, as did the whole nation until he started stabbing Johnson in the back when suddenly every word he utters is taken as gospel.

The Opposition is less than effectual unfortunately.
But at least it's not Corbyn which might mean Johnson would be even higher in the popularity stakes.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 30-Apr-21 10:29:06

Just seen this on Twitter

As Starmer goes to John Lewis for photo op with a roll of wallpaper, Johnson should rush out and get snapped sitting on a fence (any fence will do)

Lillie Fri 30-Apr-21 10:28:52

I am a simple gran. To me
The Boris pictures show a man enjoying mixing with whoever wherever. Getting out there.
The Keir Starmer wallpaper pictures show a man who is desperate and petty. It has well and truly back fired.

MayBee70 Fri 30-Apr-21 10:28:08

Since when is charisma the most important thing about a potential PM? How about decency, honesty and intelligence? How and why has it come to this?

Galaxy Fri 30-Apr-21 10:28:02

It depends whether you want charisma or decency. There are lots of people who are charming who have been revealed to be very dangerous.
