It depends whether you want charisma or decency. There are lots of people who are charming who have been revealed to be very dangerous.

Since when is charisma the most important thing about a potential PM? How about decency, honesty and intelligence? How and why has it come to this?

I am a simple gran. To me
The Boris pictures show a man enjoying mixing with whoever wherever. Getting out there.
The Keir Starmer wallpaper pictures show a man who is desperate and petty. It has well and truly back fired.

I’d say it’s down to the success of the vaccine roll out (regardless of the brains behind it) added to the easing of lockdown,
plus equally or maybe even more so, the lack of a forceful and inspiring opposition.

As for current news, I doubt that too many people honestly give a monkey’s about who paid for fancy wallpaper etc., as long as it wasn’t the taxpayer - in the great scheme of things the money is a mere fleabite.

Added to that is a dislike and mistrust of Cummings and disbelief in anything he has to say, as did the whole nation until he started stabbing Johnson in the back when suddenly every word he utters is taken as gospel.

The Opposition is less than effectual unfortunately.
But at least it's not Corbyn which might mean Johnson would be even higher in the popularity stakes.

Yes he has flaws (who doesn't) but he has charisma and is a proven winner.

If he can get back to how he was before covid with all his enthusiasm and energy for our country, I think he will be unstoppable.

You may very well be correct Alegrias, but Johnson’s government have delivered the vaccination programme. Anything else he does will be overlooked in my opinion, because as one poster pointed out, the ‘average’ person in the street cares little for wallpaper or microscopes, they’re all just photo opportunities. The ‘average’ person cares about meeting up with friends and family again, going to the hairdressers or the pub, and hopefully going on holiday somewhere this summer. The wallpaper choices of either Johnson or Starmer are not considered important. After all, the OP asked why Johnson is ahead in the polls, and I’ve tried to answer the question.
