I do wonder- is this what the Brexiters wanted?

Free Movement of people agreed with India in exchange for Deal?

Alegrias1 Sat 22-May-21 10:10:32

Taking joy in the disappointment and despair of others.

No, not spiteful at all.

Gracious in victory? Heard of that?

Peasblossom Sat 22-May-21 10:14:56

Oh, ok. You thought she was rubbing it in.

I didn’t read it like that.

Peasblossom Sat 22-May-21 10:17:51

I mean, I don’t get all sensitive when someone says how pleased they are to have a new grandchild.

(Well not much?)

Alegrias1 Sat 22-May-21 10:19:36

Don't put the onus on us not to be "sensitive". Its getting old now.

Put the onus on the "winners" to have some common decency.

Peasblossom Sat 22-May-21 10:21:45

I honestly just saw it as someone saying they were happy with the result that they wanted. Maybe there’s a history of “digs” that I’m not party to.

Peasblossom Sat 22-May-21 10:24:17

Actually, do you think there’s such a thing as gracious in defeat?

Should it work both ways?

Actually, do you think there’s such a thing as gracious in defeat?

Should it work both ways?

Only if both sides played fair.

When we on here have been called everything from a half wit neandathal to racists for the way we voted, then no, I’m not going to be gracious in victory.

Greta Sat 22-May-21 11:13:59

When we on here have been called everything from a half wit neandathal to racists for the way we voted, then no, I’m not going to be gracious in victory.

Have you really been called this?

Schadenfreude is never a good attribute though.

MaizieD Sat 22-May-21 11:34:24

I’m not going to be gracious in victory.

Such a stunning victory, too. Lots to be proud of:

Fishing industry in huge trouble,

Music industry in trouble

Horticultural industry losing exports

Masses of new 'red tape'

Visiting the EU made more complex

Farmers about to be thrown to the wolves

Northern Ireland violence erupted and promises to do so again. Good Friday Agreement could be in tatters

Scotland and Wales threatening to break up the Union

Half of Kent turned into a gigantic lorry park..

Our chief 'negotiator' running round like a headless chicken trying to renegotiate the 'best deal' (according to our PM) because it wasn't really what he wanted

And import controls on the UK side haven't even been implemented yet because nothing was ready for them, neither personnel not infrastructure

And a lying, idle, charlatan as PM.

Ooh, lots to be really proud of there ... Just keep on gloating, MerylStreep

Alegrias1 Sat 22-May-21 11:48:26

Ohh, they called us names, we'll show them.

The level of Brexit debate.

ps - neanderthal

Alegrias1 Sat 22-May-21 11:55:40

That's a spelling lesson, incidentally, not an insult. In case anyone's feeling touchy.

Peasblossom Sat 22-May-21 12:18:01

Do you mean sensitive? ??

As a result of leaving the European Union the UK no longer has direct access to COPIS, an EU-wide intelligence database used by customs services and companies affected by fakes to alert the authorities to intercepted shipments and routes being used by counterfeiters. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which is in charge of enforcing border controls for goods, insists that an equivalent UK system – known as PIPR – has been in place to continue intelligence sharing from the moment Britain left the EU.

But one senior industry figure and law enforcement expert claimed that the new system is not as comprehensive as COPIS and as a result Britain has been left more vulnerable to the counterfeiters, who more often than not are interlinked with organised crime groups involved in other activities including human trafficking and drug smuggling.

The expert said: “Brexit has had a tangible negative effect. It may be that some access and co-operation is continuing but that is no replacement for reliable, real-time access to information. As a result there is a real risk that larger amounts of counterfeit goods are getting into the UK in the wake of leaving the EU.”

Yes.

It made me feel ashamed to have voted to Remain, Greta, to be associated with those on here who kept making such remarks over the last few years.

Callistemon Sat 22-May-21 14:59:10

As the majority of us have Neanderthal genes it was a pointless attempt at an insult anyway.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-May-21 14:59:49

Callistemon no one should ever be ashamed of how they voted or have to justify the box they crossed.

MaizieD Sat 22-May-21 15:35:44

It would be great if you could find the 'Neanderthal' post, Callistemon. I don't recall anyone being directly called a neanderthal. Stupid, idiotic, racist, xenophobic, gullible, perhaps, but not neanderthal...

Though I think that even those terms were usually expressed generally at Leavers as a group, rather than applied directly to individuals..

I do, GG13, actually know of Leave voters who are now ashamed of their vote...

No-one is aksing anyone to justify- but to own and take responsibility for your choice.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-May-21 15:52:47

Kali2 my vote, my choice.

Kali2 Sat 22-May-21 15:53:14

'Leaving the EU will be globally interpreted as a backward, narrow, xenophobic thing to do'

who said this and when?

Kali2 Sat 22-May-21 15:54:20

GrannyGravy13

Kali2 my vote, my choice.

Yes, I have agreed to that. But now you have to own it- this disaster is yours, partly.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-May-21 15:57:48

Kali2 if I didn't own it why would I tell people (who in the majority I do not know) on GN which way I voted.

Kali2 Sat 22-May-21 16:19:58

Even worse, it is HIS, even if he clearly did not believe in it and knew how bad it would be. Because ERG handed him the power and the title he always coveted, come what may (well, not May). At least you believed it was the right thing- not sure how you can still believe it (very few do).

Urmstongran Sat 22-May-21 16:33:48

Round &. Round we go .... ?
