I do not think that Israel want peace, they have taken more and more Palestinian land since 1967.
The Palestinians are stateless people, with no rights and no power who live in tiny fragmented areas having lost their ancestral homes and olive groves tended for hundreds of years which they are not allowed to return to.

Yassa Arafat was the previous Fatah leader in Palestine. He was fairly moderate and wanted to reach agreement with Israel but they refused to negotiate with him and was treated very badly as he was dying.
After his death an election was held between Fatah and Hamas which won the election because they learned that being moderate had got them nowhere. If Israel had wanted peace they could have worked with Fatah but chose not to, and then they complained about Hamas.

There have been regular incidents of violence every couple of years , Palestinians always suffering many if not all deaths. They had no weapons other than stones and burning tyres (the smoke hides them from Israeli guns) vs. Israel with all their heavy weapons ( courtesy of USA and others) to wipe out these small enclaves which is all that’s left of Palestine. It’s a sort of David and Goliath situation.

Gaza is 25 miles by 5 wide and is completely surrounded by sea and Israel. The sea is patrolled as are the borders. Crammed with 2 million people with no freedom of movement in or out. It’s just a massive prison.

I do have sympathy fir what the Jews and others suffered in the last war but for people who have been so oppressed themselves I find it hard to understand that they would act as they do. The Palestinians have asked for a halt but Israel has refused. Netanyahu has a lot resting on this, he is charged with many crimes and his political position is fragile, but this latest battle could save him from the court process and keep him in power which is so clearly his goal.

A few years ago I read that a Palestinian town called Silwan is going to have a King David theme park built and all the inhabitants will be forced to leave their homes and land. Just another day for people with no power or autonomy.

Would we not all of us be angry if we lived in this situation? Stateless? powerless, homes and land taken.... I didn’t think so.

If our country had been under repressive control and occupation for years I can imagine a fair few of our children would be radicalised too.

Both sides are clearly suffering, but Palestinians were in a poorer situation from the outset. A spokesperson from Amnesty International have said that the bombing of apartment towers which are not military targets and leaving dozens of families homeless amount to war crimes.

Hammas has a political wing which was elected as the governing party in Gaza. They have the support of many Palestinians..

It affects us all, we are all sorry for the underdogs wherever they are, if only the extremists would stay out of politics. A moderate Israel and a moderate Hamas would be the dream for the vast majority .

The protestors aren't all pro-Hamas and I'm not quite sure what you mean by "support Islam". Islam is a religion and, as far as I know, there's no law against having religious beliefs in the UK.

PS. I'm an atheist and regard all religions as hocus-pocus, but I respect the rights of other people to hold religious beliefs.

Why on earth do you think I haven't read about the tunnels or the claims that Hamas stores weapons in residential homes. Of course I have! As I haven't seen them with my own eyes, I'm inclined to be sceptical about anything Israel claims - and that doesn't mean I don't believe it - it just means that Israel has been caught out publishing "fake news" in the past and I'm sceptical.

In any case, there really are two sides to this.

The Met used helicopters to identify people, so maybe they weren't "in sight".

If you read about this group of people you'll understand how they operate.

And you know the IDF video is genuine? And that it's not a one-off? How do you know that? For all I know, the IDF claims could be genuine, but I'm afraid I'm very sceptical about any information from the IDF.

Have you looked at Gaza on a map? It's so overcrowded that it would be impossible for anything not to be in close proximity to people's homes.

Of course I've read about Hamas. I don't see them as blameless. Nevertheless, I try to see both sides and be critical when I read. You could try doing the same.

PS. How would you and your descendants feel if world leaders decided to relocate all Palestinians to Birkenhead and they then decided to annex Wallasey as well and kicked you out of your home?

No-one seems to acknowledge the fact that Hamas was shelling Israel for 3 days before they fought back. Israeli citizens, including children, have also been killed.

I would love to see a peaceful solution between the two sides, but Hamas is a terrorist organisation with a declared aim of wiping out Israel.

EV I know about the tunnels. If Israel was to open up borders and provide proper supplies of essential items to Gaza the tunnels would fall into disuse. As it is they are maintained to ensure supplies as silverlining48 has said and they are also used for weapons. The capacity however is nothing like the number of weapons Israel has. They recieve a huge amount of military assistance and financial aid from the USA.

Anyone interested in life in Palestine for a family I recommend watching The Present short film on Netflix.

The IAF are aiming at these miles and miles of tunnels, and unfortunately with the amount of fuel that is also stored beneath the ground it will obviously cause havoc above.
This fuel that Hamas have got is being deprived from local hospitals etc in Gaza, but do you think they care ?

There is no excuse for storing weapons in family homes. What kind of a sub-human would even think of doing this----just for the convenience of having then to hand ready to fire.?
