GB News will attempt to shake up the broadcasting landscape when the news network launches its TV channel in early June.

The news service, spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil, has announced plans to go live on Sunday June 13.

In a tweet, the channel said it would launch at 8pm with a special programme, 'Welcome to GB News'.

I can’t wait!

Everyone makes 'childish comments' about Neil's hair.
Both right and left wing people.
And I've already said that Johnson is fair game.
His appearance was an embarrassment at the G7.

It is fairly even-handed though, wouldn't you say FannyC. Chestnut's complaints that the comments made about politicians and others using the media to further their views and their career are unfair and then only citing right or far-right figures is biased! But then we all now know that some on here have a problem understanding what bias means.

I wonder why some have not seen the left of centre politicians torn to pieces in the media - it happens often enough. Perhaps it's another occasion when we hear that "my opinion is a truth even when evidence is absent". You do have to wonder about the critical thinking of someone who can suggest that "loony leftie" is a label, not an insult, though.

PippaZ You seem to be having some kind of crazy obsessive conversation with yourself! You seem to think you know me, but I'm not part of this conversation. Stop wasting people's time reading through this nonsense.

How can I be having a conversation with myself if you are joining in - each time. Do try the truth. It works for most of us.

Er, what?? You are making things up, I'm off this thread now, because you are posting utter nonsense and I'm not wasting any more time reading it. Enjoy your conversation with the people inside your head.

I've not seen it advertised as anti woke. I've not heard 'woke' mentioned at all. I've not heard any slagging off of the EU either.

I have noticed lots of coverage from around the UK with what appear to be local people doing the reporting. They were in Skeggy earlier. Not sure if they are there all day. I hope they continue doing that.

I thought GBN is supposed to be a national broadcasting organisation. I have switched over occasionally only to find someone, somewhere pontificating about local news (it wasn't Skegness) so I switched back as I'm just not interested.

Obviously things happen throughout the country that are of national interest - fair enough - that should be reported on a national news channel. From what I've seen GBN isn't and won't be that.

Andrew Neil has had his business failures. He owned "The Business" and "The European" Both of folded. It might not happen so quickly to GBN because his backers are incredibly wealthy.

This is the post I was referring to Chestnut

Lucca: Is this the post you want me to answer? I'm not sure why because it's not even a question. What do you want me to say? It seems rather an exaggeration. These are just labels, not insults. Much worse are the continuous humiliating remarks and personal insults about people's appearance posted on these boards towards anyone perceived as right wing.

The one where you suggest there is a bias in the insults which is against those who are seen to be right-wing on this forum. That simply isn't true and I suggested to FannyC that it has been pretty even. However, your suggestion that saying someone is from the "looney left" is just a label stretches the truth. You seem to have an obsession with mental illness which I think would be contrary to GNHQ's guidelines so perhaps you could stop suggesting that I show signs of insanity too.

Ever since i joined anyone who didn’t wholeheartedly approve of the conservative government was called a leftie, and often loony leftie.
Anyone who wasn’t massively interested in the royal family was called a republican anti monarchist.
Anyone who dated to show support for Black Lives Matter was a member of the “woke brigade”.

I didn’t say it was a question. I was just pointing out that presumed left wing posters come in for just as much scorn etc.

How is loony leftie just a label ???

Alegrias1 Wed 16-Jun-21 13:02:41

Somebody told me last week that my loyalty to our country was in question because I want to support people starving overseas.

That's not a "label".

(Sorry to mention another thread)

PippaZ Wed 16-Jun-21 13:54:01

That seems to be another standard right-wing claim Alegrias. Only they understand patriotism.

Topics discussed on Wootton's Dan's Digest segment have included the UK's lockdown extension, taking the knee and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Speaking to BBC News on Tuesday, Richard Wilson, director of media group Stop Funding Hate, said that the immediate controversial tone meant "it's no surprise" that a reputable brand such as Kopparberg are "stepping away, and refusing to align with this".

They are discussing state pensions after the adverts if anyone is interested.

I have just watched the interview with Sunak. What a brilliant job Neil did. Grilled him about breaking manifesto promise of not cutting foreign. Asked what other promises they were thinking of breaking. Nailed Sunak down of triple lock pensions. Shamed Sunak regards not putting money into helping under performing students. Clearly some of the nasty comments on here regarding GB News have very clearly not watched this interview!

theworriedwell Fri 18-Jun-21 21:25:32

I'd love to have heard it loveOc but I can't, I literally can't hear it. It isn't my TV, other channels are fine, don't know if it is the transmitter or what so I suppose I could have watched it but I wouldn't have known what was said.

MerylStreep Fri 18-Jun-21 22:22:14

LoveOc
If they had they wouldn’t say.
They only comment on Laurence Fox and Nigel Farage.

MerylStreep Fri 18-Jun-21 22:40:50

Rebecca Long-Baily on now. That’s 3 right wing diversive women I’ve mentioned this evening.
Where’s the sarcastic emoji when you need one.

Dinahmo Sun 20-Jun-21 18:19:59

Yesterday I watched an hour long programme devoted to cancel culture. It was interesting and informative but I do wonder how many people either watched it all the way through or switched off part way through.

MerylStreep Sun 20-Jun-21 19:24:32

Dinahmo
I watched it. Another interview that was very good was with Peter Tatchell. The subject was free speech. He would be very disappointed with most of the views on here.
Ironic when you think about it as probably most of the posters who want to shut down GB News are admirers of Peter Tatchell. He would not admire all of you.
And as clever as you think you all are he would crush your argument in 5 minutes.

TerriBull Sun 20-Jun-21 20:03:11

I have flicked it on and off a couple of times, it did seem somewhat shambolic possibly teething problems. I did read about all the hoo ha surrounding companies who have chosen to boycott it and not advertise on this channel. One company was, Ikea, happy to promote their goods in Saudi and China though, do they imagine people won't find out about their double standards. hmm

Alegrias1 Sun 20-Jun-21 20:12:12

I have tried to watch a couple of times, I tried again just now. They haven't got it right technically yet but that's excusable as teething troubles.

But the content I've managed to see has been dire. sad

Can you watch any of it on catch-up? I'd love to see how I'd do against Peter Tatchell....I could tell him that I don't want it shut down despite what the Andrew Neil cheerleaders are telling him...

theworriedwell Mon 21-Jun-21 10:53:37

Just had another look, sound quality seems to be improving but now it looks really dark. I wonder if they need a shilling for the meter?

Alegrias1 Wed 23-Jun-21 13:46:34

Oh dear.

FannyCornforth Wed 23-Jun-21 14:25:20

Tee hee! smile

Chestnut Thu 24-Jun-21 14:42:11

Considering they've only been going for a week can you really expect viewing figures or technical skills to be anywhere near those of the major channels who have shedloads of dosh and have been going for many decades?
Their rivals are going to do whatever they can to ridicule them and stop people watching, of course they are. But just remember David and Goliath.
