GB News will attempt to shake up the broadcasting landscape when the news network launches its TV channel in early June.

The news service, spearheaded by veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil, has announced plans to go live on Sunday June 13.

In a tweet, the channel said it would launch at 8pm with a special programme, 'Welcome to GB News'.

I can’t wait!

Agreed Stilton. It is just ridiculous.

Stilton Fri 28-May-21 19:23:07

Genuine comment, not a snark.

Why are there a number of comments saying that the BBC is biased and left wing? I know that there have been accusations of this in right wing papers, but there have also been accusations of right wing BBC bias from left leaning commenters too.

Surely there would be legal challenges if either of these were even remotely true? Is that we are stuck in media echo chambers that any independently reported positive news about the opposite spectrum is bias and propaganda?

Kali2 You did. You couldn’t help yourself. Love Andrew Neil; he pulls no punches. Not keen on Dan Wooton or Piers Morgan but I’m looking forward to it. Cue much gnashing of teeth from the lofty heights of the morally superior ?

Barrygirl Fri 28-May-21 16:55:59

Why would anyone want to tune into this? Right wing propaganda is all. If you want news then stick to the earth channels, Channel 4 in particular.

JdotJ Fri 28-May-21 16:10:43

I wonder if Piers Morgan will put in an appearance ?

Kali2 Fri 28-May-21 15:53:47

The USA residents I know who watch Fox News, never watch anything else. I imagine that will be the same for the majority here.

lemongrove Fri 28-May-21 15:11:43

If you watch a variety of news channels then you get a better view of things all round.

It is to be a shameless right wing ‘news’ channel. Andrew Neil states it will be Britain’s Fox News. That means it won’t give us news as such, but rather right wing spin on stories. Not for me!

Rather like the shameless left wing news channel that we have then, called the BBC.?

JenniferEccles Fri 28-May-21 15:05:02

I would imagine if it was as excessively Right wing as some have claimed on here, that it wouldn’t be popular.

However the BBC has become very Left leaning in its news as well as always appearing to ensure it ticks every politically correct box in all its programmes.

Caro57 Fri 28-May-21 14:45:21

Let’s hope it gives us news not biased opinions like the BBC has a habit of doing these days

Kali2 Sometimes it is better to just not respond.

Do why did you??

I didn't ;)

3dognight Fri 28-May-21 13:14:56

Well I won’t be swapping from Channel 4 news. Diverse and in depth reporting from a talented multi racial team of men and women.

TriciaL Fri 28-May-21 13:05:00

Think I’ll still be watching Channel 4 news! Andrew Neil gets carried away with his own importance!

tickingbird Fri 28-May-21 12:37:53

Anyone who get excited about Fox News on speed, well

unprintable.

Absolutely! ?

Ilovecheese Fri 28-May-21 12:35:51

But at least they are being open about their bias, in fact they are making a virtue of it.

Apparently they are going to have a section called "Wokewatch" and presenters will be free to say what they think.

I'll probably watch for the entertainment value. Once, anyway.

.. this attitude sums them up completely - what gives anyone the right to sit in moral smug judgement over the fact that 'shock / horror ' others might have a different opinion!

Where did intelligent debate, openness, integrity, critical thinking and listening and learning disappear to.... lets not do that .. lets brand those whose opinions we disagree with woke / snowflakes / lefties / right/ gammon as name calling and labeling is easier than using our own brains to educate ourselves

dolphindaisy Fri 28-May-21 12:20:28

Will definitely be watching, I think Andrew Neil is the best interviewer we have at the moment and can't understand why the BBC let him go. He always has the facts at his fingertips and pulls people up when they try to waffle (ie most MPs)

Lucca Fri 28-May-21 12:10:45

Can’t wait.

Seriously ? You re that excited about a news channel?

HannahLoisLuke Fri 28-May-21 12:07:54

Can’t wait.

Stilton Fri 28-May-21 11:52:23

Won't go near it with a barge pole.

I think it should be compulsory for all media: print/online/tv, left/right to explicitly state what their funding, priorities and strategic aims are. There also needs to be an expected standard of evidence to all stories.

I'm all for people reading all viewpoints but this is an exercise in expanding the already saturated market viewpoint.

GB news he's going to anchor from his villa on the south coast of France? grinhmm

More independent, factually correct news please!

knspol Fri 28-May-21 11:46:57

Always worth listening to Andrew Neil, always seems to be on top of his game and very well informed. greta interviewer too.

Aepgirl Fri 28-May-21 11:46:37

Yes, will certainly watch now I know it’s in FreeView (I can’t afford subscription TV).
