No it’s not the thread I have misunderstood, but some of the uncharitable comments on it - including, with all due respect, your patronising offer to explain it to me as if my intellectual capacity were somehow inferior.

Well your comments do not represent what was said at all, and claiming that they do might be mistaken for trying to stir up an argument.

At any rate, IMO she looks an awful lot nicer and more natural than Brigitte Macron, who is not far off the same age. I was going to use a certain phrase to describe BM but thought I’d better not, or I’d be accused of both ageism and sexism.
(But for anyone into crosswords, it’s 6, 7, 2, 4 letters.)

I can too but my hair always ends up looking like Boris's (only longer).

It's just difficult hair, I could tame it in the morning but by 11am it's wild again.
Brush it, it's ok for 10 minutes.

I loved Jill Biden's outfit for the inauguration, the white jacket with flower embroidery. She has a lovely sense of style regardless of age or build. Melania Trump had great style too but I felt (my opinion) she was a clothes horse rather than contributing anything meaningful to her post as First Lady. And those early soft porn photos of her - I know people have to make a living at whatever they are best at, but it's not classy, again, my opinion.

Michelle Obama was a breath of fresh air in the White House, intelligent and classy. She always looked confident in whatever she wore.

Found it! Yes I have noticed there seems to be alot of pink scalp shining through so you might be on to something.

Off topic but I noticed Prince Charles making a speech yesterday and he seems to have hung on to his hair quite well for a man who started losing it quite young if I remember correctly. He's certainly hanging on to it more than William.

How people look is quite complicated I think. We all know some people photograph well, I think the saying is "the camera loves them." It doesn't love me, I had a photograph for something at work once and the photographer said he'd photographed pieces of wood that were more animated than me. It was harsh but true except if I have a baby in my arms, then I am smiling and relaxed presumably because I'm concentrating on the baby not fretting about the photograph. I can honestly say if you put two photos of me side by side one on my own and one with a baby you wouldn't think it was the same person.

Also some people seem to wear clothes well and others not. I heard an actress once who was talking about being a child star in Hollywood. She went to the studio school with Elizabeth Taylor and she said ET never had a hair out of place and at the end of the day looked exactly like she did at the start. I felt a bit sorry for her, thought she must have been drilled on her appearance and not allowed to play and then my son started school. Lovely little blonde girl went in at the start of the day looking like a model from a catalogue. At the end of the day she looked the same. Other kids have paint and dirt on them, white knee socks rolled down etc and again I assumed she must be a quiet little thing who didn't play. I volunteered at the school and soon saw she was a lively child who joined in with playground rough and tumble with the best of them. I assume she had the same bubble round her as Elizabeth Taylor.

I think Johnson hasn't got the bubble or maybe his dishevelled look is deliberate and I think that is what irritates a bit, the idea that he might deliberately look like he's never seen a comb and his suit isn't a great fit. Next to Biden, Macron, Trudeau to name a few he just doesn't look that smart, I think partly due to them being taller (I think) and slimmer and maybe partly due to being as good at photographs as me or maybe because he cultivates that look.

I don't like a lot of what he's done, his appearance isn't that big an issue.

Back to the original I think Jill Biden looked great and the camera does seem to love her.

I’m amused by the comments on how wonderful Jill Biden looks (lots of help including plastic surgery, like a lot of Americans) Also that she’s so fit and active, including still working as a professor at the ripe old age of 70!

Just remember" You can't judge a book by its cover". All we are seeing are the covers. I didn't make remarks about Melania Trump because of her clothes but looking at her body language and facial expressions perhaps I was wrong in jumping to conclusions from them.

I see it as a natural progression of the discussion.
But then, at times, discussion itself isn't exactly valued!

The gift was not a tradition. It was nice of Melania to do it but nobody had ever done that before, and Michelle Obama was taken by surprise.

Melanie Trump always looked totally elegant and stylish, but rather cold. I suspect she didn’t enjoy being First Lady, and her relationship with Donald …who knows. Underneath it all, I think she lacked confidence in the role, and it was covered up by a glacial attitude.

Remember at the Trump Inaugeration, when the Trumps met the Obamas on the White House steps, Melanie presented Michelle Obama with a gift, a traditional gesture apparently, Michelle took it in a very disdainful manner. Hardly conducive to making Melania feel welcome.

Not impressed with Michelle Obama after that.

How can any one say they like Joe Biden or his wife have any of us ever met or talked to them? We see the persona they want us to see. I felt sorry for Melania Trump she seemed to often find it hard to hide her true feelings. We, myself included should not judge people by their clothes and that's why I said I wouldn't care if she wore a bikini.
The people in my village hall are lovely friendly and down to earth but would certainly have a good laugh and I would accept it if I stumbled along on 5 inch heels with a jacket with a big slogan on the back in sequins.
