I would have been impressed if all of Johnson’s biological children had been present

Boris and Carrie are adamant no one shows photos of the baby's face yet they have twice paraded him in front of the world's media, meaning his face has to be pixilated before the film can be shown. We know how much Boris loves a photo opportunity - he's rarely seen without a Hi Viz jacket or a white coat and please don't mention his early morning swim but I think it's wrong to use the baby as a photo prop. Plus if they are going to show him they could have put some shorts on him instead of taking him to the beach in a nappy and t-shirt (the baby not Boris).

Harmonypuss - answer to your question 'who calls their baby Wilfred today' - my young friends had actually called their baby son Wilfred before Boris' son was born!! Question answered!
Similar story here. My 4 year old granddaughter has a best friend called Wilfred. She's going to marry him apparently!

How nasty some people can be - using a baby to vent political spleen!! There was no reason for Wilfred not to be there and good for Carrie and Boris that they didn't 'dump' him on a Nanny. For goodness sake live and let live, try to be kind, there is too much hatred in the World already.
Thank you for your kind comments Jabberwok, yes its a wonderful place, and so pleased you enjoyed your time here.
Well said Jabberwok. As was posted early, some of the comments are hilarious, (and untrue). A nappy on a baby at the water's edge, flip flops on the beach, an irritated first lady, Boris taking a dip, disruption for the locals and businesses suffering, an incompetent police force etc etc.
I'm beginning to think there might even be some jealousy from a few posters who don't get the way of life on the Cornish coast.
Marg75 Having had many happy Cornish holidays as a child I was lucky enough to live in West Cornwall for two wonderful years many years ago when DH and I were first married. (I wish we'd never left!) I so agree with your post and just can't believe the miserable posts on here. The pictures of Wilfred ( his name is his parents business) were gorgeous, Jill Biden looked relaxed and happy in his and his mother's company as did everyone else. So Boris goes for a swim.!! Is there some reason why he shouldn't?! Baby wears nappy/knickers on the beach ? Shock horror! Baby makes a short appearance at a BBQ. suitably dressed, sighs of relief all round, but is somehow disapproved of. Honestly are you nit pickers for real? Other politicians have taken their very young children with them to various political events, photos to prove, but only this baby is and his parents are castigated. Could this be telling us all something?!!
In the current situation I don't think that any spouses, partners or offspring should have attended. It was supposed to be an important and serious summit meeting not a weekend jolly for those exempt from the restrictions that the majority of us are under.
The child wasn’t paraded before the leaders, just their wives, and it’s lovely to see a child on the beach. I can see nothing wrong with it.
Utterly unnecessary for Boris' youngest to be there and we didn't need Carrie or other spouses either!
Well I'm from Cornwall and I think the whole weekend was glorious, from the venues including on the beach, to the wonderful Cornish tables used for the serious stuff, to the BBQ, to the Eden Project visit by five members of the Royal Family.
The views & weather were spectacular, and having spouses including two men by the way, was very appropriate. Jill Biden attended many things in Cornwall, including the wonderful Minack Theatre, a primary school, and other arts projects. Carrie also did her bit, and made everyone feel very relaxed and welcome.
As for Wilfred, he was seen on the beach which is lovely for him as he lives in London, and a brief appearance at the BBQ which was informal.
Stop carping and see the positives, it all went well, even the demonstrations, and most people in the area are praising the Police for their calm & relaxed approach to the residents and visitors.
Why shouldn't a female leader bring her husband, and a male leader bring his wife? Why shouldn't a young mum bring her first child to show off? Its life, its what we do!! Except when the PC brigade come out!!
There really are some hilarious comments on here. The one about the first lady probably being irritated by the presence of
Wilfred…what on earth ?
The furore about nappy/shorts….pathetic frankly
Referring to this as spite against a baby…..unbelievable.
I wonder how the G7;actual business is going ?
I think the late David Frost had a son called Wilfred.
Wilfred was Boris's GrandFather's name
So many ‘old men’s’ names have become popular in recent years, Harmonypuss - ditto old ladies’ names, come to that.
Presumably younger parents don’t have the same associations some of us do - in my case, bristly old men in tweedy jackets smelling of pipe tobacco, and whiskery old great aunts in woolly hats.
Must admit that the Johnson baby is the first Wilfred I’ve heard of, though.
I really get fed up of people on here having a 'pick'. I think it all created a warm and welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Oh and what is wrong with a nappy being seen....heavens above....what a ridiculous comment!
I'm not bothered about Boris' baby, although who on earth calls a child Wilfred these days?
My issue is more about how many people were at that barbecue, definitely more than 30. Is it one tile for them and another for us plebs?
They weren't socially distancing, constantly touching each other, no masks. Why are all these rules necessary for us to adhere to but not them?
I don’t see why we should pay for wives to go. That is just not on. Did they take Nanny, hairdresser etc?
I thought it was a delightful ice-breaker to have Wilfred there.
It saved him from being left behind, but I dont think a top summit meeting is the right place for a baby, although the location was perfect, with sand and sun.I am sure the baby enjoyed the attention.
Well if it were a deliberate photo op at least Wilfred was the resident baby, son of the host, not just some random baby off the street that politicians love to kiss for the media's attention.
The new ‘Johnson stable door’ variant is about to delay unlocking and might lead to thousands more deaths as it is not only more transmissible but appears to be more dangerous with double- vaccinated people accounting for 30% of the deaths from the Johnson variant. All he cares about is showing off his young wife and baby and swimming in public - criminal in my view.

I still don’t understand why spouses of politicians attend such events, let alone children.
I completely agree. Also, the photo of everyone looking at the child with some sort of adoration featured only women. Yet again, they are reduced to the wife-and-mother role.
I'm sure they'd have had a nanny with them - I don't have a problem with the child being there but using him as a photo prop is going a bit far.

What a judgemental thread this is! - A young Mum wants to be with her baby at the sea side - understandable and lovely to see. This is worse than the BBC and Laura for finding blame out of nothing!
Well, I, for one, am not objecting to a young mother taking her baby with her, though as she was meant to be hosting the non-participants it would complicate things a bit.
I couldn't care less about how he was dressed on the beach or whether or not he had his hair brushed.
I am objecting to the baby being used for photo opportunities.
As I've said this three or four times already I'll shut up now...
I don’t think anyone would have commented about him being left at home for a couple of days with the nanny. I think as well that as a much older woman Biden’s wife was probably irritated by the presence of a baby and having to force herself to interact with him
What an incredible pair of assumptions!
Wilfred is only one, who are you or anybody to blame Carrie for taking him with her - did anybody blame Tony and Cherie Blair for taking Leo to the UN summit? Can’t remember - I don’t think anybody commented/was all that interested
She may still be breastfeeding - not that it is anybody’s business but hers either
And hands up all the 70 year olds who would be irritated by the presence of their hostess’s baby? Or is this not GransNet ?
Most of us (me included) would love to see and be with a baby playing happily on the beach #couldnt#keepmyhandsoffhim#interacting#bringiton
