Baby Wilfred at G7 - what do you think?

Perhaps baby is still being breast fed so needs to be with mummy.........come to think of it that is unlikely.
Photo ops are unnecessary and do we really need to know how much has been spent renting clothes, handbags and even shoes?

Just can't get het up about this baby on the beach in his nappy.

His father sadly is a true embarrassment and a terrible, lying, dishonest, can't be trusted PM, probably the worst ever- so the above, even if totally staged, is of no true significance.

I agree, I don't think even years ago anyone would dress a toddler in Sunday best for the beach whoever they might be meeting., Queens garden party maybe but not in an informal setting. I have photos of me on a Cornish beach circa 1950 with my dress tucked into my knickers to keep it dry while paddling. These days things are more informal and casual including the two ladies, that has to bed a good thing.

Carrie is very much of her generation and there would be no question of Sunday best simply to meet other HOS wives. In addition, if she had dressed him in the sweet traditional knickerbocker /smocked romper type outfits the Cambridges favour, no doubt somebody would have criticised that as Little Lord Fauntleroy , extravagant , showy and certainly overpriced.
Come off it - it’s all another opportunity to take a pop at the Johnsons, principally Boris but also Carrie by association and as such entirely irrelevant.

Some nasty comments on here from the Boris Johnson Fan club just because some of us aren't gushing at the sight of the back of a baby's head.

My OP was pointing out that I don't think it's a good idea to cynically use the baby for a photo opportunity, Boris will do anything if he thinks it will make a good photo - even him hanging from a zip wire waving a flag was staged.

No one objects to Wilfred's mother taking him with her and I wasn't criticising him showing a nappy but I was surprised as I know most mothers would dress their baby up to meet lots of important people. All you people saying your own children played on the beach in nappies - I bet they weren't meeting the 1st lady of the USA

It’s come to mind that there’s a family photo floating around of me, aged 11mths, sitting in just a nappy (towelling, of course!) and sun hat in the sea at Hastings. I’m not embarrassed by it, I look rather cute, even if I say so myself.

I really think some posters are taking this out of context. I have been on the beach most of the day today alongside hundreds of children and babies in various attire and states of undress. Nobody even notices.

Wilfred was the only baby on an empty beach which had been cleared of people for security reasons. You have no other children there to compare him with, so of course your eyes are just seeing a single snapshot. Yes, it was staged, but I can't see a big problem.

Not only a baby but a baby on the beach! In my young day my two would only have worn a T.shirt for sun protection , but obviously times have changed. I think Wilfreds nappy/knickers were perfectly respectable for the beach, even a toddle to buy an ice cream would have been ok.

BTW Some disposable nappies are bio degradable

I don’t blame Carrie for using a disposable nappy on the baby when away from home. Seems practical.

As for the spouses at the G7, they hold soft power - look at what Michelle Obama achieved as FLOTUS.

Lighten up! Don’t we all love a baby when we get to a certain age? He looks rather cute. I see Jill Biden gave him a book called ‘Joey’ all about the antics Joe got up to as a lad - a best seller in US at one time apparently. All friendly.

No one cares about him being on a beach having a nice time it’s the photo op PR stunt people don’t like. Well imagine if it were Harry and Megan with the press taking arty back shots of their child. Bitchfest wouldn’t be the word.

Not many one-year olds aspire to looking “dignified”

esp knowing that scene at the water's edge is going to be much photographed.

God knows I’m no great Boris fan, but I see no need for the usual Boris bitch-fest. Who wouldn’t want to take their baby on the beach? And I can’t see the harm in letting him toddle around elsewhere, either.
As for comments about him being in just a nappy, they are beyond ludicrous.

I have nothing negative to say about the baby and i think the comments about no shorts are completely ridiculous.

I do however have plenty of negative thoughts towards the current PM.

No, it wouldn't have been acceptable.

But, as I said before, most other politicians wouldn't be trotting out their children for photo ops at a summit meeting. Most other politicians keep their children well away from the limelight.

I have absolutely no objection to Carrie taking him along; fine if she doesn't want to be parted from him. I don't care what he wears on the beach; mine wouldn't have been wearing anything but sunscreen. But no need to put him in front of the cameras.

Is it "spite" to wonder why wive/husbands /children need to attend political meetings?, well I know they don't attend the meetings, but what do they do? just wander around having their photos taken? Does not liking this make me a sad or spiteful person? Or is gushing over a child who you don't know and haven't seen a bit sad?

As for the little boy only having on a nappy and t-shirt, at that age my brood were always naked on the beach, round the pool and in the back garden.
