Let’s be optimistic

I am gobsmacked and disgusted at the amount of venom and hatred on here against a channel they accuse unjustly of promoting hate! Most are people who have not even watched it! It most definitely does not promote hate. If it did it would be stopped by the regulator. I and countless others who favour free speech will be withdrawing our custom from companies cancelling their adverts. Many are now reconsidering. Vodafone for one has done an aboutface. I applaud them and the Co-op who refused to be influenced by tweets from the vociferous minority.

Totally agree with you. No hate has been noted, unlike that of STH , who were boycotting GB news weeks before it even started, talk about hypocrisy, and as for IKEA spying on their workforce in France, very humanitarian.

I agree with you too. They are not promoting hate, it seems the hate is all directed at them, i.e. 'I don't like them, they don't agree with my views, so shut them down!'

Not sure how prominent Farage is on it. But you have made a good point. Due to this advertising boycott, ( other words are available) more people are tuning in. As they say, no such thing as bad publicity. I watched about 5 minutes of this programme the other day and it's dire. In my opinion. But I certainly don't agree with companies getting stressed due to social media outbursts. But all it's doing is garnering publicity for the programme and more viewers. If this show is a success you can bet your bottom dollar they will get their adverts. Market forces as someone has said. What needs to be remembered is not everyone is outraged/offended. But some aren't happy to see companies bow to negative social media comments. Even though we understand why they do. However it appears they are getting more negative comments about the boycott so goodness knows what they're going to do.

25Avalon You have a right not to buy from the companies who have said that they won't advertise on GBNews. I expect the companies have factored decisions such as yours into their decision.

I haven't watched GBNews and I'm unlikely to watch it in the future, not because I've accused it of promoting hate. I've seen clips of Andrew Neil talking about what it stands for and it's not something which appeals to me in the slightest. From what I've seen of the subject matter so far, I'm not interested in that either. It appears there won't be any actual news reporting or investigative journalism, so I can't see any reason to watch.

Quite frankly, it sounds like a cross between a televised form of pub discussions and the Daily Express, which doesn't interest me at all. There are so many other sources of news and current affairs.

You can't 'enjoy' a news channel Fanny! I tend to dip in and out between programmes as I prefer drama, but I have not seen anything myself on GB News to justify closing them down. And I would never try and close a station down just because I didn't like it.
The level of hate I've seen on these threads is jaw-dropping. So maybe you can say what you hate about it, and what exactly you have seen that is so dangerous that the public shouldn't see or hear it?

Are the people who want to watch seriously such snowflakes? Who are these people who want to stop them? Are they going round in mobs pulling TV plugs out of the wall?

This is a classic example of victim mentality.

I don't have a television now and so haven't seen this new tv channel, but I seem to remember that when Channel 5 first aired, in the late 1990s, it was ridiculed because its opening programme had the Spice Girls leaping about in excitement and everyone complained that it was too lightweight and childish to be taken seriously. It's still broadcasting isn't it?

Growstuff there have been negative twitters made to companies advertising on GB News telling them to pull their adverts or they will never shop with them again. You can find the tweets for yourself. The purpose is to shut the channel down. Cancel culture. Goodbye free speech. I’m not the snowflake here. Those who want to stop me having the choice to watch are.

Remember the 60’s and the book “Last Exit to Brooklyn” which we weren’t allowed to read along with other books? People protested for the right to make up their own minds.

They're not back advertising. They are just saying that not advertising on it doesn't mean they are boycotting it.

Well it does say they resume advertising in the headline. But who am I to doubt you!

I've tried to read the whole thread, and as far as I can see nobody's asked for it to be closed down. Wee bit of hyperbole there, is it? Surely not.

I don't think they should be shut down, free speech certainly needs to work both ways. They are completely free of any intellectual thought and are trying to stir up division in the country, but even that has to be allowed to stand.

As for the tweets requesting companies to withdraw their advertising (which I haven't personally seen, but I'm sure they exist). People can tweet that too if they like. And the companies are free to ignore them.
