If we do have to put up with restrictions for longer, then so be it. I don’t mind wearing a mask, I want to sanitise when I go out, but I refuse to use those unreliable lateral flow tests, precisely because they are unreliable, and I certainly wouldn’t report the results of an unreliable test to anyone. However, the difficulty is that we are watching thousands of people mingle freely at football matches and Ascot. It’s Wimbledon this week, and thousands more will be mingling there. I’m just looking at Wimbledon on television, NO social distancing at all! Two and a half thousand ‘officials’ are travelling to Britain to watch football and not having to quarantine at all. Well the way I see it, we either have restrictions or we don’t. Not one rule for me, and another for others. That is the way to huge discontent among the general population. It’s ridiculous that I’m looking at Wimbledon this moment and seeing people crammed into Court One with no distancing at all, but yesterday my family couldn’t take a party of seven into our local Italian restaurant. I cannot see how it’s unreasonable of me to be miffed about it.

I can understand to an extent why people see the crowds at Wimbledon or anywhere else and ask why they can't have seven to dinner. But on the other hand, this is a pandemic in the 21st Century. We've never had to navigate these waters before.

I just googled Wimbledon and there are a slew of rules about attending; testing (see later!), no queuing, no approaching players etc. We're in a situation where things are looking inconsistent but I'm living with it for now. The live events that we have had have shown that there is no evidence that crowds outside cause a spike in cases.

We've got a huge spike in cases in Scotland right now. My money is on it being people meeting up indoors and watching the football. We'll see.

As for testing, I've done a couple of LFTs for practice in case we ever have to do them to go to an event or something similar. You tell them its negative and then they send you an email saying you're negative. Not the best system. But like case numbers, its a statistical thing. Over tens of thousands of people, its going to be right enough times to make it worthwhile.

It is not unreasonable. Always question what you think is 'questionable'. Think for yourself, do not rely on others to tell you what to think. I always read up on a subject for myself before deciding what to do. You are then making an informed decision.

maddyone I feel the same about crowds at Wimbledon and Ascot as I do when I read about people spending thousands on holidays, upgrading their kitchens/bathrooms or on cosmetic surgery/dental care. It's something I'd like to do, but it's not for me, so that's that - I find pleasures in life elsewhere. The green eyed monster never brings anything but pain.

My cousin used to go every year and was not well off.
It was her annual big treat to herself.

So what is it? I don't suppose people are jealous of the Wimbledon crowds (because they probably couldn't have gone anyway) but they seem envious of people attending Wimbledon when they can't meet as a group. They're jealous that some people can do something they can't. I zone out. It's not fair, but so is much else in life not fair. Until very recently, I hadn't eaten out anywhere for years because I couldn't afford it. That's not fair either, but hey ho ...

Difficult to understand why parents cannot watch their children’s sports day but it’s perfectly ok for the same parents to stand together (no social distancing) before and after school everyday?

Yes, they do matter, which is why money should have been invested in good ventilation and home computers when face-to-face learning was impossible.

I am really jealous. I have been a few times and just couldnt get tickets this time, we did try.

Not sure what I m missing but he just looks like an Asian guy with a bald head !!!
