I wish the media would leave this lady alone. Over the weekend she has been described as a private person and suffering from Long Covid after picking up the virus when her husband had it. After his revelations to her that his affair was about to be made public, her world must have been turned on its head. She has 3 children to care and support as well. It must be awful for her leaving her house to have cameras thrust in her face hoping to catch some emotion from the poor woman. Leave her be. Go and pester the ones responsible.

You must have found it somewhere!

Galaxy Wed 30-Jun-21 17:49:54

That story has been all over the internet, it didnt need any digging up.

Kali2 Wed 30-Jun-21 17:47:48

I don't do Twitter either- not sure it is any worse than the tabloids though.

MawBe Wed 30-Jun-21 17:37:57

Well I don’t do Twitter if I can help it - surely we can have standards?

Callistemon Wed 30-Jun-21 17:30:56

Unfortunately, Kali2 there are always trolls around on the internet.

This is nothing to do with any newspaper. The cameraman was wrong to focus on her and English fans have condemned the trolls.

Apologies for digression - but I truly feel sorry for this little girl:

'some deeply disgusting individuals are sharing a picture of a German little girl crying at the football, with mocking and sick comments, including pictures of Jimmy Saville.'

Where do you dig this stuff up Kali2 ?
I read 3 national dailies (well I read two of them but have the third on my apps) and have been spared this gutter press bilge.
Frankly I’d prefer to keep it that way too.

It was all over twitter this morning, MawB. Along with the disgusting comments made on the photo.

why is it snobbery to criticise heavily the 'newspapers' that have pounced on Mrs Hancock and her children at this truly distressing time?

sodapop Wed 30-Jun-21 16:54:42

I agree Doodledog. It does make things more difficult for Ms Hancock to be in the public eye at this time though.

Seems to be a fair bit of snobbery on this thread regarding newspapers and supermarkets.

janex Wed 30-Jun-21 14:23:49

I agree she should be left alone she has enough to deal with poor wOman

Doodledog Tue 29-Jun-21 23:14:02

Far be it from me to defend Hancock, but if he had just left without saying goodbye people would be saying 'That poor child woke up to find that his dad had left, and he didn't even say goodbye.'

I really don't think that the details of the 'domestic' side of this story are for us to pick over. It's unfortunate, and as I say, I'm not defending him, but these things happen - marriages fail and families split.

The public interest part of it all is the hypocrisy, the corruption surrounding contracts for cronies, and his utter incompetence at his job. That, and the fact that Johnson didn't sack him despite all of the above.

Autumnleaves Tue 29-Jun-21 19:33:34

If it was true that Matt Hancock woke his 8 year old child up to tell him that daddy was infact leaving the family home, was that so in the future he could say 'Daddy didn't want to just leave without saying goodbye '. How selfish of him, that poor child surely would not have gone back to sleep after that!

coastalgran Tue 29-Jun-21 18:28:21

I do feel sorry for Mrs Hancock for being married to the idiot for so long, it is easy to see who the brains of this outfit are and I think she pitched it just perfectly by walking the dog looking absolutely amazing, that takes guts, it also let the world's press see that she means business. Pity their dog hadn't been a bit bigger because he/she is going to have a lot of walks in the coming days/weeks a bit of a strain on those wee legs.

Harris27 Tue 29-Jun-21 18:22:30

Such a shame. Poor woman. I really feel for her.

Alioop Tue 29-Jun-21 18:13:08

She has held her head high, even though she must be in turmoil with it all and well done to her. Her creep of a husband has a lot to answer for and as for the press, they can just hound anyone they want, toe-rags the lot of them.

mumofmadboys Tue 29-Jun-21 17:52:19

I feel so sorry for you Buttonjugs if those truly are your views.

fluttERBY123 Tue 29-Jun-21 17:01:15

I agree with eazybee. Why start a thread? Leave her alone. Were I in Martha's position I would see this thread as yet another invasion of my privacy with people here picking over the bones of my private life.

Nannabumble70 Tue 29-Jun-21 16:36:26

Like Giles Brandreth said, it'll be a while before Matt Hancock appears on Strictly Come Dancing but he might be on Naked Attraction!smile

And STILL we don't know what newspaper Kali2 read, or why she wont tell us......................................
(^ Speculation can breed more harm than good^ )

I have replied, very clearly.

Anitae Tue 29-Jun-21 15:44:20

I agree that the press should leave Matt Hancock's wife alone but nobody knows the circumstances only the people involved! Did she know about the affair and hoped it would fizzle out. Do they love each other and want to build a new life together. Tough for the children involved especially being in the spotlight. It happens every day I'm afraid! Let's hope all parties concerned are able to move on from this.

Nothing to do with Martha but years ago Mr Hancock would have been fired for immoral behaviour and not breaching the covid rules. How society has changed.

Years ago, Johnson would not have been PM for his immoral behaviour.

dizzygran Tue 29-Jun-21 15:29:38

I agree = leave her alone. What a rotter her ex has turned out to be. His fling probably won't last- his aide will get bored of him. Good luck Martha. You are a very attractive intelligent woman = you deserve better.

I am surprised at your comment LesLee, as a librarian. Literature and 'the Press' are very different things, surely. Although some literature has been written with a particular socio-political context, and often with a strong slant on the history of the time- few books have been written with the sole aim to manipulate the voting public- unlike some sections of the Press owned by the same Cons magnates- and with a truly very particular goal - to manipulate the public to vilify some groups of people, and vote in a certain way.

There are many things I will not 'judge' people upon- but if they support newspapers which peddle hate, be it hate of some sections of the population, foreigners, immigrants, etc- and live on vile gossip and harrassment of people like innocent Martha and her children- or politicians of other persuasions (even murdered ones), or those who fight against Cons, and Brexit- like Gina Miller, and others. Or the family of murdered young women, and worse.

I shall judge and say it openly. No hesitation.

Just look at the front pages of the tabloids, day in, day out - over many many years- and it is all out for you and all to see. If you support it, you (as you in general) are part of it. No question.
