So Michael Gove is getting divorced now. Surely he hasn’t been having an affair?

Someone on here called Gove's wife "Sara Vile", having read through these posts I suggest some GNs should look in the mirror. Interesting how quickly PC behaviour goes out the window. I'm no fan of Gove but tbh if he's straight, gay or bi, it's of no interest to me unless he's committing something illegal. I thought we'd moved on a bit from the prurient days of the News of the World!

Well, he was found guilty just a few days ago of breaking the law by giving a contract to Public First. It's curious that people seem more bothered about politicians' private lives than blatant cronyism. IMO the curious thing about Gove is that both Mrs Gove and Mrs Cummings both wrote articles denying something which I don't even think people were accusing them of doing. Gavin Williamson was mentioned, which links with that strange photo of him with a whip. Maybe it's all a sophisticated "dead cat" to take people's minds off the guilty verdict against Gove.

I have just read all this thread, I refuse to be drawn into unfounded speculation.

It is always sad when a marriage breaks down, especially when there are children involved.

varian Sat 03-Jul-21 09:14:01

Gove has been mentioned as a possible successor to Johnson.

At one time involvement in scandals - financial, sexual or criminal, would have scuppered the chances of any politician but in today's corrupt consefvative party is it possuble that might even give him a?boosr?
?

I don’t care who he sleeps with. He’s a proven liar and been found guilty of corruption. His wife writes vile pieces about other people. He does not have the integrity we should demand from those in our parliament. I agree it’s a dead cat to take attention from the court case.

*GillT57 why should I direct my comments at Vine, I'm not aware that she's posted on this thread?
*Whitewavemark2 I've no problem if people post about his drug use, political decisions, how he performs in his job, anything that he's done which is proven and illegal. However, I do wonder what people's response would be if a poster came on and said she and her husband were getting divorced and her husband was having an affair with another man. I'd hope that people would not ask about their political affiliation before offering some kindness and support but who know! I'm not a fan of schadenfreude.

Gove is single and ready to mingle.

Calm yourselves ladies.

???

Beckett Sat 03-Jul-21 09:27:45

Not knowing this couple personally I have no knowledge of their personal lives. However, I do wonder if the comments directed at Gove's appearance would have been tolerated by GNs if they had been directed towards a female politician. I seem to recall outrage when comments were made about Diane Abbott's appearance!

Framilode Sat 03-Jul-21 09:28:00

Interesting that the Daily Mail has barely mentioned the Gove/Vine split. A small piece half way down the page and the comments significantly moderated. Compared with the coverage of the Hancock affair it gives pause for thought. I think they look after their own and bury the story as much as they can.

Smileless2012 Sat 03-Jul-21 09:37:39

What is there to bury? They have agreed to divorce, amicably by all accounts. Hancock was having an affair and was literally caught on camera.

Yup, my thoughts too.

Framilode That's because there is no affair in this case don't you think

And caught at it in the office.
We don't know anything more yet about the Goves unless someone has scoured the trashy papers on our behalf this morning and has any further information.

As for the hinted at gay relationship, I just hope it isn't spun in a way that we feel unable to criticise without being seen as homophobic
Good point GillT57

Beckett that's a good point too. People can't help their looks (although DA does help hers and scrubs up well).

I was once chatting with a group of Conservatives that had a remain stall in a nearby town and one of them bemoaned the fact that the leadership of their party were ‘just a load of second rate journalists’. Something that, at the time went over my head but I’ve thought about a lot since. When I think about Conservative ministers of the past eg Heseltine and even Thatcher, much as I loathed her, they were they were proper politicians not just people playing at the job. It was the first thing I thought about when Johnson made his sausage joke yesterday. Instead of lying in bed worrying about the worlds problems I can’t help but feel he lies there thinking up silly soundbites to use. Gove, to be fair, used to be very good in late night arts programmes on the BBC and is far imo more intelligent than Johnson. I wonder if Murdoch is still backing him to be the next party leader now, though.

GillT57 Sat 03-Jul-21 11:28:11

Foxie58 I am not sure I understand your comment about my post, have I missed something? My point is that Sarah Vine has made shown little compassion for other women who find themselves in her position, or for their children.

GillT57 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:10:07

If the reports of Gavin Williamson knowing a few things about certain people and therefore hanging on to his job are true, does this mean we might have the bonus of Williamson being sacked as he is the blackmailer whose story is out? Not for having the story, but for using it to hang on to a position for which he is so obviously underqualified and lacking in experience. Hope so

MayBee70 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:17:38

Do the schoolchildren (and teachers) of this country really deserve to have been let down by Gove, Cummings and now Williamson I ask myself.

GillT57 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:22:00

No they do not MayBee70, Gove did a great deal of damage, and as for Williamson, he always reminds me of a boy in his Dad's suit, a little bit Private Pike. Not very bright

Absolutely!

Obviously those GN posters who mock his looks must be oil paintings themselves. Very shallow to mock anyone's physical appearance. Criticise his politics and actions and I'll probably agree, but sleazy unproven gossip is very distasteful.

Sarah Vine is a right wing jounalist who seems to like words like venom and vitriol which are often repeated by Tory GNetters.

No wonder she has often been called Sarah Vile.

foxie48 this is one comment but there are others.
I agree completely with what you have posted, the hatefest shown on here for a divorcing couple is an eye opener. Those posters who always consider themselves PC are now shown to be anything but!

varian your post says a lot about you.

Gabrielle56 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:33:15

Bucket please!

Gabrielle56 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:35:18

He's a toady and a back stabber! Oh and an incompetent too. Looks? I think that's enough isn't it? Rotten little eggy

lemongrove Sat 03-Jul-21 13:37:11

The absolute hate shown by some towards politicians is one thing, but it also is now directed at their wives and anyone who supports that particular Party. It’s worrying......

Gabrielle56 Sat 03-Jul-21 13:39:07

Ha ha! Hilarious and strangely true....

I agree Lemongrove I was not going to post on this thread again, but I am horrified yet again by the attitude of some GN members.

Apparently Vine's written for the Daily Mail since 2013, a paper I dislike and don't read, so I am not aware of anything she's written but two wrongs don't make a right and perhaps she'll learn about compassion having her own life trawled over by the media etc. As I've s aid, I don't like schadenfreude and she and Gove have children, who are essentially innocent parties. Divorce is hard enough on everyone in the family even if the break up is amicable and not in the public arena.
