Johnson's lies (again) Why do people still believe him?

I referred on the PMQT discussion to an interview on GMB this morning with a lawyer, Peter Stephanovic who has produced a video debunking several of Johnson's "facts".

I've started a new thread because the one about PMQT is quite specific.

Stephanovic was interviewed on GMB this morning by Susannah Reid and Alistair Campbell and the PM was defended by his biographer Andrew Gimson.

Here's a link to the GMB interview www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScFh94J7SV4

Watching Alistair Campbell I was reminded of the accusations against him and Blair about the lies told to the country over the Iraq war. Thousands of people, with reason, dislike Blair, some of them intensely, because of the lies.

Johnson has lied through his teeth on many occasions but still people believe him. Why is this?

I haven’t seen it yet but DH tells me even Baroness Varsey on The Last Leg appears to loathe Johnson. And Anna Soubry wrote a scathing article in last weeks Times.

Ah Warsi, noticed she’s still hanging on to her Baroness title, and hasn’t resigned from the Conservative party. Oh no, Don’t tell me she didn’t know what the stance was from the Conservatives towards Israel and Palestine., but as a Baroness it doesn’t matter!!!

Here is Cummings on Johnson; he worked with him for long enough so he ought to know:

^“He rewrites reality in his mind afresh according to the moment’s demands. He lies — so blatantly, so naturally, so regularly — that there is no real distinction possible with him, as there is with normal people, between truth and lies. “^

Cummings is a bitter little man with a massive chip on his shoulder because he was sacked. I wouldn’t trust anything that came out of his mouth.

How many times has Johnson been sacked? Can someone remind me oh, and Patel for that matter.

Cummings is competent enough to have run 3 very successful campaigns; the North East devolution (anti), Leave EU, and the 2019 General election. Whereas Johnson, by all accounts, couldn't run the proverbial p*ss up in a brewery (he gets other people to do the work...)

I feel that Cummings has a better grasp of the truth and reality, than does Johnson.

Boris was elected with a huge majority and his popularity continues with most people. The political threads are captured by the same few Gransnetters posting the same views time and time again and, to my mind, bullying anyone who doesn't agree with them. No wonder folk don't join in. I read them all, but rarely comment due to the nastiness.

If by bullying you mean stating their case ….. it is not bullying to disagree surely ?

Johnson is NOT universally popular. In Brexitty parts of England, OK. He is unpopular in Scotland, NI, Wales, London, Liverpool, Manchester.

Cummings description of Johnson seems quite accurate to me. A bit like the orange haired one over the Pond. You say whatever you wish and you believe what you say. Trump told us that he'd won the election because 75 million people voted for him. And that is despite 80 million voting for Biden. And he believes that he won.

Same here. Cant abide liars.

I know quite a few people who were initially impressed by Boris Johnson but who have now seen through his façade and it didn't take them very long to do so.

Johnson might have been elected WITH a huge majority but he was not elected BY a huge majority. Most who voted in the last election voted against him and he is only PM because of our undemocratic FPTP voting system.

He is unfit to be PM, as we have been told by people like Dominic Cummings, Michael Gove and so many others and has done untold damage to this country.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Jul-21 14:22:10

Decent behaviour starts at the top.

My goodness we have no chance as long as this man is PM.

MayBee70 Mon 12-Jul-21 14:23:55

Is he going to reprimand the MP who made the nasty tweet about Marcus Rashford I wonder?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 12-Jul-21 15:04:14

Natalie Elphicke? Unpleasant woman at the best of times.

Who was that ?

Natalie Elphicke ?

MayBee70 Mon 12-Jul-21 15:31:14

I’m going to email her office. Stupid woman. She thought if she deleted it no one would notice what she’d said.

GillT57 Mon 12-Jul-21 17:25:05

Natalie Elphick was married to Charlie Elphick, previous incumbent of the seat. He was fired for sexually assaulting three of his assistants. Wonderful couple.

Dawn Butler in the House today. Wow- at last someone has the guts to call Johnson on his lies. I am so glad she did not withdraw her statement - and disgusted she was the one to be sent out. I hope they will now take it in turn, and say it again and again.

The Speaker should do his job, and same for Deputy- insist that he answers questions asked on our behalf by our Representatives- and stop his ranting and pre-prepared attacks and deflections to his own agenda.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 22-Jul-21 17:30:08

I see a few Tory MPs have been caught out trying to influence a high court judge over the Charlie Elphick sexual harassment case.

His wife is one of them, and recently she also had to apologise over remarks she made about Rashford.

I have no idea why so many still believe Boris or his 'gang'. Clearly many of the believers are here on Gransnet.

I'm not sure that they do 'believe'; I think that they just don't care about the lies because 'Brexit' and 'Vaccines'.

Lincslass Thu 22-Jul-21 19:17:51

Perhaps she should have the intelligence to find a vocabulary that wouldn’t have seen her thrown out, she could then have continued with her accusations, or perhaps it was deliberate to draw attention to herself.. Perhaps also she should remember her own lies re homelessness and two homes expenses scandal, couldn’t get Covid testing numbers right, then the hypocrisy around Toby Young when she was hobnobbing with Brendan Cox who had to leave his post with save the children. The opposition have done nothing to help in this pandemic, no useful plan to put forward, just criticism and blame. Like a ground hog Labour day. No I don’t agree with everything this Government have done either.
