BlueBelle Mon 19-Jul-21 17:31:23

Sorry if I misrepresented merylstreep I googled the GB news as I have no desire to watch it and that’s what it said about Laurence Fox obviously I should have read further but it did sound about right for him
And I certainly didn’t call him a star presenter that’s what the article said I ll have to try and find it
Morrelandmooner* why so we get called this ridiculous name of woke if we have a heart and care about kindness

Nothing at all really Elliane. But I have noticed a tendency for people who are running out of ideas for taking part in a discussion to metaphorically shrug their shoulders and flounce off saying they have better things to do, implying that the other "side" of the argument is not worth bothering about.

Ellianne Mon 19-Jul-21 17:33:03

PS not that anyone would even notice or miss me!bgrin

I totally agree that conscience and kindness are the best qualities, they should inform what we do and say.
I just don’t believe that any political persuasion holds the monopoly on them.

Figures soared as 100,000 tuned in to watch Nigel Farage on Monday night.

Whatdayisit Wed 21-Jul-21 13:53:56

Well at least it gets Farage off the BBC. the amount of airspace he was given by the Beeb before Brexit was ridiculous. I don't know how the BBC gets accused of being left leaning i have never seen it and after all they gave Andrew Neal his own programmes for years.

oh my .. the blessed Arlene is joining the crew. Wow!

Katie Hopkins next, I imagine. What a bunch of (choose your own word, don't want to be expelled from GN).

Today's update on GB News viewing figures from The Express.

Since it started in June it's average viewer count has dropped by 20,000 a day. On August 12th it's viewership was 17,000.

Nigel Farage once said "I just say it as I see it, behave as I do. If people don't like it, they can take a running jump."

Well it seems as though they have done just that.

For many years we have been told not to believe anything that the Express, Mail, Sun, prints.
So why should we believe this: because it suits your wishful thinking.

Well I certainly haven't said anything previously about those newspapers and my post didn't display any 'wishful thinking' on my part.

I was just posting what was reported and leaving you and others free to do your own thinking and believing as you saw fit.

I don't know who "we" is and who has been telling "us" anything.

Here's some real data about viewing figures from BARB:

From 2 Aug - 8 Aug 2,392,000 watched GB News for even a very short time. That represents 3.79% of the population. The total share of possible TV programmes watched was 0.22%. The average viewing time was 22 seconds.

To put that into context, these are the equivalent statistics for BBC1: 46,862,000 people watched BBC1 (74.2%). They watched 22.7% of all possible viewing for an average of 36 minutes.

GB News has some way to go before it becomes mainstream.

Absolutely, why are they even bothering if it offends them so much, to prove a point, of what I’m not sure. Find GB news refreshing, it knocks the gov as well as the opposition, and of course the snp . Good all rounder, middle of the road. More interesting topics that the BBC, and ITV. Just seen an interview about Mansoor , a British Afghani who escaped from the Taliban twice, very moving and uplifting.

Lucca Fri 10-Sept-21 08:55:53

Anything that contains Nigel Farage as a presenter, guest or stand up comedian is a no for me and anyway I don’t know where to watch it and I rarely watch tv news.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:04:19

I predicted on here that Farage would take over as soon as this clown car of an station launched.

theworriedwell Fri 10-Sept-21 09:12:31

I have put it on a couple of times but didn't find it very interesting, the sound quality also seems really poor and I know my hearing isn't as sharp as it was but I can hear the news on BBC and ITV so don't think it is that.

I turned it on last night to see what it was like and the presenter was Dan Wootton. He seeemed to be having a bit of a rant about vaccines and it wasn't very balanced.

For a different view of the news I sometimes watch Al Jazeera. They do some interesting documentaries and they are often about things that don't seem to hit the main channels. I wouldn't make it my main news channel but it can be a change.

Lincslass Fri 10-Sept-21 09:24:29

I don’t watch Farage or Dan Wooton, but at least you have a choice to switch off their programmes,. GB news has different presenters, unlike ITV and BBC where you get the same old presenters day after day, and they come across as arrogant and sneering.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:37:10

At least with Farage, he knows his way around a studio and can talk coherently to a camera.
I don’t agree with any of his opinions, but he is an engaging presenter. I used to enjoy his LBC shows, prior to him getting the boot

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:38:14

Not so sure about the claim that he is "coherent" Fannygrin.

A man may smile and smile and be a villain.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:38:35

I forgot to say ‘unlike most of the others’
I’ve honestly never seen such amateurish rubbish on TV

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:39:57

Oh, I agree with you.
I’m damning with faint praise by comparing him to the others.
He’s like a cross between Frost & Dimbleby compared to the other muppets

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 09:40:34

That was to Alegrias
I’m all over the shop today confused

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:40:35

I wonder if that's why Neil is reportedly leaving? He thought it was going to be a proper station where he could make a mark but instead they are a bunch of amateurs with daft opinions?
