After five years, the biggest casualties of Brexit are in plain sight. Integrity and decency in public life are crumbling. Has the demand to " get our sovereignty back " helped the Johnson govt with ignoring the parliamentary rules and the loss of integrity and decency?

I think possibly all the barriers put up by Europe to delay and frustrate Brexit, will never be forgotten, as won’t the actions of tge deluded Remainers who didn’t and don’t believe in democracy, so hopefully we haven’t a cat in hells chance of wanting to do a u turn, in fact it’s made everyone more determined that ever not to go back there, it just showed people for what they were which wasn’t nice. Continue to dream, where there’s life there’s hope.?

There is, and we have different hopes and different dreams- yes, it takes all sorts- and our sort will soon be on our way. Our children and grand-children hopefully will know better.

The EU has not put up an barriers ro delay or frustrate Brexit - they are insisting that the Deal negotiated over a very long period of time, and signed in good faith- is adhered to. And quite rightly too. Why on earth would you expct them not to. What was in the Deal was there for all to see- all experts in the field warned Johnson, again and again, of the inherent problems that it would lead to.

They called it 'project fear', ignored all the warnings and signed. And you say it is the fault of the EU?!? Really?

It is utterly unbelievable that some people still blame the EU for the absolute mess Johnson and co put us in in signing this Deal, which clearly left us with major problems, which are not in any way, shape or form- the fault of the EU, and were very clearly warned about.

We joined the EU having read and I suppose, fully understood, the rules. Thatcher, by swinging her handbag was able to get some favourable treatment. If you want to leave an organisation of any size where money is involved you have to follow the rules. The favourite example often given on here seems to be a golf club, or it could be a gym. If you want to leave partway through a membership period it will be within the rules if and when you get part of your subscription back. You could of course flounce off and not get anything back which is what the extreme right of the Tory Party wanted. Not that I can imagine Rees Mogg flouncing anywhere.

So how long do the EU stipulate you have to be a member of the ‘club‘, or have countries no choice about leaving. You know I left a gym membership a few years ago, with 6 months left, it was clique and unfriendly, but they were fair, and I just had to pay for the 6 months left. Not for a hundred or more years, and they didn’t punish me for leaving either.

I think that even if it were explained to you in words of one syllable you wouldn't accept the explanation as valid, Lincslass, so why bother to pose the question?

I used to wonder to myself, who will the Brexiters blame for all our troubles once we have left the EU?

In 2020 the economies of the UK, France and Germany shrank by 10%, 8.2% and 4.9% respectively.

So at the end of 2021, the size of the UK economy will be 96% of what it was at the start of 2020, the French economy 97% and the Germany economy 99%.

Looks a bit different when you look at it that way, doesn't it?
