RNLI and Farage

I am finding it difficult to get my brain around the concept, that there are people in this country who would rather let a world wide respected maritime organisation see people drown than save them.

I just hope that Farage criticising them for doing their job ensures that they have the best year yet from donations.

May I just point out to those singling out myself Alegrias etc that I posted precisely twice before I was attacked and told my post was typical and that I hadn’t read /seen the Farage speech. I had.

I’m not sure that naming people in this way is in the spirit of GN, but there you go.

Yes I do not like Farage as a personality or his politics I admit that in the same way as many on here felt about Corbyn (I didn’t support him just by the by) and feel about Starmer. And the speech I listened to did nothing to improve my view.

My late mother in law would have been incensed, she received an honour for 45 years fundraising for the RNLI, even though landlocked in mid Cheshire. We were all well versed in the amazing work they do.
This insulting behaviour is a disgrace and I hope the people responsible are publicly shamed.
To our delight she is to be remembered on a lifeboat in Norfolk before long. She would have been thrilled to bits.

Oh how proud you must be!

I don’t like Farage either, but I agree with posters who are open minded about what he says, rather than it’s him saying it. It’s not about trusting what he says and does in this instance. He’s highlighted something that was already there. I for one, didn’t know anything about it, before this thread. So I looked at news bulletins, and there it is. For him not to be trusted, he’d have to be speculating this might happen. He’s not done that,so for all his faults listed by Whitewave, which I agree with by the way, this isn’t one of them.

There are some really screwed up people posting here!

Sorry, that didn't fit in the thread where it should have! ?

I listened to the clip which Chestnut posted earlier and I agree with everything Nigel Farage said.
How many of you who appear to be trying to outdo each other with your level of vitriol aimed at him actually bothered to listen to what he said?

He went to great lengths to repeatedly state how much respect he has for the RNLI, how he has been involved in fund raising for them and that he has personally donated to them.

He then quite correctly pointed out that picking up and dealing with the migrants trying to enter our country illegally is not the job of the RNLI but of Border Force, who as he stated should be towing the boats back to France.

This situation can’t be allowed to continue but people smuggling is an extremely lucrative business.

Why should Border Force tow the boats back to France?

We all name people all the time. If I hadn’t, no doubt one, or all of you would have said, “ is that post directed at me?”. I think the people who don’t agree with you are doomed from the start. No point getting involved in these threads.

Well said toad. ?

railman Fri 30-Jul-21 14:23:40

Maybe slightly obscure/off topic, but I love the phrase - "economic migrants".

Does that include the people who want to escape to the country from the dreadful city of London, or as "holiday homes", buy up property in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, the West Country, etc.

Are they "internal economic migrants"? They do seem to leave a lot of properties empty for many months of the year, forcing up prices that only those who arrive from those 'foreign parts of the country' can afford.
hmm

“ I think the people who don’t agree with you are doomed from the start. No point getting involved in these threads.”.

Are you in fact accusing me of aggressive posting ? Are you saying I should not post? That’s ok. After today I might not.

OK - I'm gonna be controversial now!

Could someone give an example of anything useful or beneficial to society that Mr Farage has done in public, or in a public office?

Anything, and any sphere of society, any examples??

We just need the 'they are all wearing good quality clothes, lifejackets and have the latest i-phone and then I shall cry HOUSE! on the Farage Bingo game. Have any of his supporters asked why P Patel's parents were able to apply for and get residence and nationality as economic migrants? Her Father repaid this kindness by standing as a UKIP candidate a few years back.

Excellent Like the Patel reference grin

Brexit is neither useful or beneficial to anyone other than Farage.

Every cloud has a silver lining

Donations to the RNLI are up by at least 3,000%!

Well done Nigel - have you never heard of the The Law of Unintended Consequences?

It needs to be up, as Holysox says, they’re going to need more boats. Only hope they have enough people to man them.

More boats?

No, it really is the duty of the Government, the coastguard and Naval patrol vessels and this needs to be sorted out as a matter of urgency so that the RNLI are not first in line although, of course, they will never refuse to answer a distress call.

I meant people posting wild unsubstantiated accusations and accusing people of lying with no evidence. I've never done that myself. Have you?

Dinahmo Fri 30-Jul-21 14:51:08

DiscoDancer1975 If you are going to use scare tactics (an increase of 20% income tax) do please to use some accurate figures please. Also' there is no need to build on green belt land. It's just easier for developers to do that' rather than brown field sites which cost money to clear.

Finally, there are people who have done so or are sharing their homes with refugees.

How do you know that Farage is telling the truth? He lied a lot over Brexit and immgraton in the past; Do remember the hoarding with the Breaking Point slogan from 2016?

Toadinthehole every time there has been a rescue of refugees by the RNLI it has been shown on the tv news. We see film of dogs being rescued or people swept out to sea by strong currents so do you really think that the refugee rescues aren't shown?

Finally, I just googled Farage and fake news and the first page had reports from a number of different news organisations calling him out.

It is incredibly easy to find so much of his exploits over the years.

He is a fraudster and deeply unpleasant individual.
