Johnson joked about moving Sunak from the Treasury and to the Health Department.

there's an interesting article in the Guardian today about the splits within the Tory party. Since becoming PM, Johnson has made many pledges on spending - social care, the NHS and rebuilding the north, to name but a few. To fulfill these pledges enormous amounts of money will be required. At the same time, many in the Tory Party are opposed to such spending because they are anti government and would prefer for the austerity measures of the past to continue.

Sunkak is on a charm offensive and the popular press like him. I have to admit, he is smarter, and less of an embarassment on the world stage than the burst sofa that is Johnson, but that is a very low bar. I just despair that we are even talking about austerity again, history indicates it doesn't work, and recent history has shown it to be harmful and damaging to the economy, never mind the lives of the victims. Sadly, there are many, and quite a few on GN too, who believe in the philosophy, especially if it hits what they see as the undeserving, immigrants, benefit claimants, those who have 'failed' to save for their old age etc, followed on usually by stories of how their sainted Mothers fed 12 of them on fourpence a week and if only today's youngsters knew how to cook from scratch then they would be fine. It makes me despair, people believe what they read, just do not evaluate for themselves. .......and breathe......

Absolutely! Austerity is a complete economy sapping disaster.

In this instance Johnson is kind of in the right of it. He's correctly discovered that the Bank of England is a bottomless pit that is obliged to cough up any money he asks for. Only the Treasury stands in his way.

Trouble is, Johnson won't spend the money on restoring past tory cuts; he'll spaff it on mostly aimless 'big ideas' and vanity projects.

He could Riverwalk. There may be repercussions; the question is from whom? Do those people matter? That would be where Johnson's be interests would lie.

After all, what is so wonderful about Sunak? I would certainly be glad to see him go. It's unbearable to think about another round of so-called "austerity".

Well the new health minister acts like he wants to be chancellor again so maybe he could swap with Rishi Sunak.

I have been reading recently that he does not get on with Sunak. Austerity is a major area of disagreement.
