“Recollections may vary”. Harry and Meghan (again - I know!)

This may be a pot shot too far, now they seem to be including the Queen in their self- righteous whingeing.
(Not that I am biased)
Apparently Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe the Queen failed to take “full ownership” of the race allegations made in their interview with Oprah Winfrey, according to the authors of the unauthorised biography Finding Freedom.
A “friend of the couple” (unnamed, of course) has apparently told Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand that the Queen’s lack of action had prevented the Duke and Duchess from moving on from the claims.
The source also suggested that the Queen’s assertion that “recollections may vary” had not gone down well.
(It did however rank IMHO as one of HM’s all-time greatest bons mots )
The Queen has until now been one of the only senior members of the Royal family to escape the Sussexes’ criticism, but this new epilogue to Finding Freedom, published in People magazine in the US, suggests that the Duke and Duchess feel frustrated that the Duke’s grandmother did not follow through with her promise to address their concerns.
It says: “The Queen’s ‘recollections may vary’ comment ‘did not go unnoticed’ by the couple, who a close source said were ‘not surprised’ that full ownership was not taken
Just one question, if this book is “unauthorised”, does it or does it not reflect their views? Or is it an example of letting somebody else put words in their mouths so that they can deny them afterwards if necessary? All these “unnamed friends,” and “close sources” - aye, right.

Queen made a joke about and laughed with family thought it was hilarious that the person she saw and related back and said he came in and he looked like a gorilla Now how would anyone hearing that not think queen was being rude about someone whoever that person was.

I have never been racist I don't think like that about anyone.

Anniebach Sat 02-Oct-21 20:31:18

The Queen cannot have exempted herself from any laws , she
cannot be charged or arrested

Peasblossom Sat 02-Oct-21 20:28:51

Princess Michael of Kent married into the Royal family. Heaven help us if we have to be responsible for our in-laws.

Do you accept that it was your assumption that was racist Grany?

It’s important that we are all prepared to accept and work on our unconscious racist tendencies.

It was an aide who told the Queen that an ambassador she was about to meet was “a gorilla”.

He was a white, gangly American with an unfortunate gait.

In assuming he was black rather shows your racist tendencies I’m afraid.

In the film about the RF which queen banned. You can hear her talking to PP and Charles that the man looked like a gorilla I can show you a clip of the banned film from Republic YouTube channel to prove it actually.

Well bully for you. Honestly my niece, yes niece, wondered if her baby’s skin would be light or dark, would they take after his daddy or her, wondered what colour baby’s eyes would be. Nothing racist whatsoever, just people being curious. Don’t tell me you never wondered what colour hair eyes etc your family’s baby’s would be. Want to know what real racism is, talk to my family member when he went to live outside his home country.

Queen exempted herself from new anti racist discrimination laws. Which still stand today. So can't say RF are not or have been recast.

What he faced was awful.

Who is Princess Alexander? If you mean Princess Alexandra , then I for one have never understood her to be racist, or utter a racist comment. In fact as she is so rarely in the public eye, she doesn't utters much at all .

That's correct it was not her I meant princess Michael of Kent..
There are so many in this extended family difficult to to keep track.

@Smileless2012, then it will be good for the person who made the comment to be named and have a chance to explain the context. Better yet he/she should come forward. If the comment was badly made, own up to it. If not, explain. If there was truly no comment made, then Harry can name the person and the person can sue.

Tactless not actress

Peasblossom Sat 02-Oct-21 19:56:03

Grany, I do actually remember the film from when it was first shown. The whole film with Prince Edward hitting the cello when the string broke and hit him and numerous other scenes. Maybe I am a bit older than you.

The Queen relayed to members of her family a time when she was receiving ambassadors and her aide had lent over before the entrance of the next one and murmured “The next ones a gorilla” The Queen then went on to say how difficult it was to kept a dignified demeanour when the ambassador entered and did indeed make her think of a gorilla.

As I say it was the American an ambassador who was white. Actress perhaps for her to recounted it in the film but your assumption that it was racist just shows that you equated gorilla to black. So you made the racist assumption.

People who live in glass houses ?

From Beatrice's tweet about the baby. Maybe she got it wrong.

We are delighted to share that we have named our daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi.

2 n's

Oh that's good. The more "common" spelling will be better for her at school.

Yes, Beatrice's baby girl is Sienna Elizabeth. a very pretty combination...... and a much better topic.

Yes, lemsip.
I noticed the spelling is Siena with one n like the town in Italy. Maybe her husband has links to it?

Yes, let's talk about baby names, much nicer than discussing how the queen can be rude about people.

Siena Elizabeth are pretty names.

Grany Sat 02-Oct-21 18:38:38

In the context of RF it is racist PP was known for it and queen mother and princess Alexander.

queen exempted herself from race discrimination laws for four decades and law still exists today.

In film the queen has banned shows their easy life she was heard saying about a governor looked like a gorilla.

Grandpanow wondering how dark an unborn baby's skin will be is not racist, it is a question often asked even when both parents are black.

Anniebach Sat 02-Oct-21 18:12:54

Grandpanow. We do not know a racist comment was made.

Smileless2012 Sat 02-Oct-21 17:50:58

I'm not unconcerned that the comment was made Grandpanow but would like to know the context in which it was said. It may or may not have been intended to be racist and taking into account the false accusations that were made in that 'interview', there's no certainty that a) a comment was made and b) if it was intentionally racist.

Grandpanow Sat 02-Oct-21 17:44:41

It’s interesting so many of you find it upsetting that Harry would name someone who made a racist comment about an unborn child, but are unconcerned that the comment was made….
