Anyone else rooting for Pen and his animals ?

Callistemon Fri 27-Aug-21 23:16:46

Whatdayisit

I passed a baby badger killed on the road this morning and that just finished me off. I keep thinking about there scared, trusting little faces in the crates.
Obviously I know every single being waiting at the airport is desperate but the dumb animals can only trust and wait.
I don't know how Pen will cope if he hasn't been able to achieve what he set out to do.

I'm fine with him bringing his dogs and cats here, although we have more than enough abandoned ones here already, their scared and trusting little faces gazing out from cages in dog and cat homes in the UK.

However, it's the scared little faces of the children that I find devastating. Poor mites.

I do too Callistemon. I feel it's the most terrible mess I have ever witnessed because our countries are responsible for it.

welbeck Fri 27-Aug-21 23:22:25

why didn't he, animals and staff etc leave weeks ago ?

Whatdayisit Fri 27-Aug-21 23:23:34

And I wish some Government would make tighter restrictions on dog breeding. It's time people stopped making money in their living rooms from puppies.

Callistemon Fri 27-Aug-21 23:27:39

There are still puppy farms operating whatdayisit, my friend's dog was a puppy rescued from one such disgusting place. The poor mother was found a kind home too.

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 07:24:42

It is awful Callistemon.
In 2008 I found a tiny chihuahua at the side of the road. I contacted the local police left my number and had it for an hour. I thought it was a family pet.
When the owners contacted me I took the puppy back. The kitchen had 30+ puppies and the breeders said to me you can have it for £300.
I don't believe in buying dogs. I left very upset at the sight. They go for about £1200 now. I just find it appalling.

You and me both Whatdayasit. What a dreadful experience you had. I have only ever had stray or rescue pets. I don’t support people who sell pets.

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 10:37:27

And the breeders looked like Roald Dahl's Twits.

Whatdayisit

And the breeders looked like Roald Dahl's Twits.

Quote of the day!

But yes, it does seem more common than we know (the puppy farming) I know a couple of people who have sympathy bought a puppy from such people and they've been riddled with worms and pathetic looking creatures sad

I have only ever had rescue dogs too

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 11:54:15

I have always rehomed dogs mostly people who could no longer keep them. They are more characterful.
I just hate the thought of people going to Disneyland or buying a flashy car on the proceeds of a litter of Puppies.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 28-Aug-21 12:21:46

So good to know others give rescues another chance too. And, wonderful news, apparently Pen and staff and all the animals will leave on their charter flight ‘in the next hour’ according to Sky. Thank you God. I hope others will be able to fill the rest of the seats.

Grandmajean Sat 28-Aug-21 14:01:42

Is tis really happeningGermanshephersmum I keep seeing conflicting reports and , to be honest , have stopped reading a friend's account on a Facebook page because it upsets me so much.

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 14:12:41

He's through with animals but not sure if it's taken off yet..

humptydumpty Sat 28-Aug-21 14:14:11

Is the chartered plane still there?

Maudi Sat 28-Aug-21 15:32:28

Keep reading so much conflicting news, no idea what's happening.

Welshwife Sat 28-Aug-21 15:46:03

I have seen a report that he and the animals were lifted out but his staff left behind!

Jaxjacky Sat 28-Aug-21 15:52:07

Yes he’s left staff behind, just him and the animals.

Callistemon Sat 28-Aug-21 16:18:02

Part of the Royal Marine ethos:

Unselfishness. Oppo first; Team second; Self Last

Alegrias1 Sat 28-Aug-21 16:20:52

There are people who really hate him, aren't there?

BlueBelle Sat 28-Aug-21 16:28:35

So he and animals out and staff left behind Thats outrageous
No time for it at all

tickingbird Sat 28-Aug-21 16:32:28

In all fairness I very much doubt that’s his choice. That would be down to Taliban or Biden’s paperwork or possibly UK government.

Playing devil’s advocate here but staff at an animal shelter wouldn’t have an automatic right to come here.

Alegrias1 Sat 28-Aug-21 16:32:38

hmmm...

The Afghan staff's paperwork was not acceptable. The animals went in the hold.

Its not the people on here who want to save the animals that are being sentimental. Its those who are suggesting he should just have manned up and stayed behind, like some stiff-upper-lipped hero from the Big Book of Boys' Adventures.

tickingbird Sat 28-Aug-21 16:34:55

It’s a terrible mess all round.

Whatdayisit Sat 28-Aug-21 16:36:07

I don't know whether they are in the air yet so until they are anything could happen. The Taliban would not give the staff permission and they - the staff - wanted the animals to get out. When people are that focused on the animals they come first. Very sad.

Callistemon Sat 28-Aug-21 16:37:02

No, I don't hate him at all
That is a childish thing to say! You don't understand the Forces, obviously.

I cannot understand how an ex-Marine Commando can leave behind "his men" - in his case many vulnerable women.

I hope for their sakes they can leave.
