Harry does Something Commendable Shock!

Last night Harry made a speech at the GQ Awards.
He presented Prof Catherine Green, and Prof Dame Sarah Gilbert with the GQ ‘Heroes of the Year Award’.

I take both The Times and The Daily Mail.
I have read Harry’s speech and it seems wholly praiseworthy.
However, over the shoulder of DH, I see that Harry has still come under criticism by The Daily Mail for something or other that I can’t yet grasp…

I can see it now....

^Yes, OK, fair enough, he may have found the cure for cancer, but he didn't actually put the chemicals in the test tube and anyway I think he and his wife were once rude to the Queen. So he's beyond redemption, really.^

Well I'm waiting with bated breath for that announcement and I think commendable would be most appropriate if he had done something so amazing.

This is how it works Lucca.

Harry praised the vaccine developers.

Harry criticised anti-vaxxers.

Harry is married to Meghan.

Meghan once met one of the presenters on Fox News.

One of the presenters on Fox News has shared info about M&H.

Fox News may have carried some anti-vax info (allegedly)

Hypocrites! How can they live with themselves! Will no-one think of the children? Our poor Queen!

Isn't one of the presenters of Fox News a friend of Meghan's, who was constantly revealing juicy bits of information about their situation with H's family, or was that on another morning tv show?

What on earth has that got to do with this ???

I have just had to look up RTFT.
Charming.

Anyone can read a pre prepared speech. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions are pretty lamentable. It's a pity he and his wife seem unable to lead by example, but I guess that they are too iimport, grand and wealthy to do that. 'Don't do as I do, do as I say', seems to be their motto.

*and one good speech from Harry after all the trashing of his own family, the lies that have been told and the unsubstantiated claims is nothing by comparison*. I never said it was. I said it was a good/useful speech. You seem to agree. So that’s fine .

We didn’t need all the rehashing of his and Meghan’s past sins commission and omission.

I think the problem with telling lies is that if you are found out people will question other things that you say. So if H&M clearly say things that aren't true, lets say the getting married 3 days before the big wedding, then people might then wonder when they say other things. Somethings are subjective and as the Queen said, memories can vary, other things can objectively be said to be wrong.

So for me I don't blame them for moving if it was better for them, I absolutely understand why a new mother would want the familiarity of her own country and her mother nearby. I've got no issues with her being divorced, I'm divorced so why would I. I have no issue with her being mixed race, my kids are. Just don't expect me to believe everything they say and I think that is more on them than it is on me.

Do we really believe that any of the RF write their own speeches? Of course they don’t.

theworriedwell Sat 04-Sept-21 10:06:05

Nice to recognise the scientists so I have no issue with the awards, Harry's speech seems fine but I don't get the "commendable" when I saw the thread title I thought he'd done something a bit more remarkable than read a speech out, whoever wrote it.

I had never heard of these awards so googled, photographs of
celebrities ! on red carpet, didn’t recognise one.

Re the media to which Harry was referring.
I took it as he was taking a US perspective, and talking about US media, Fox News in particular.

disparaging

I used it too - is it the GN Word of the Day?

*Well, if a men's fashion magazine is to be taken seriously now by the scientific world then that is highly impressive*

Hey any organisation giving an award to those brilliant scientists is fine in my book! Without them we’d all be stuck indoors still.

Plus any well known/famous/royal/celebrity person who speaks out about anti vax misinformation also is fine with me

I wasn't disparaging any scientists or their achievements at all, just wondering at the kind of world where a men's fashion magazine is taken so seriously!

Ladyleftfieldlover Sat 04-Sept-21 09:33:09

According to today’s Guardian the Daily Mail are incensed at Harry because he blames the media for misinformation concerning covid jabs! Well, excuse me the tabloids are notorious for printing misinformation. It’s how they make their money

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 09:30:58

No, I was being disparaging to ‘certain posters’ (smile)

(It’s my word of the day- I’ve been called it twice on here already this morning!)

Lucca Sat 04-Sept-21 09:26:52

You mean that’s what GN thinks ?

FannyCornforth Sat 04-Sept-21 07:51:05

Having now RTFT, I conclude that Harry should have consulted scientists, while he most definitely should not have consulted a speech writer.

Is that correct?

It's like anything or anybody who is even vaguely involved with Harry or Meghan is immediately treated as muck under your shoes, although I'm sure someone will be along to tell me how wrong I am. The desire to clobber H&M has become a reason to try to discredit everything and everybody that doesn't think they are the despicable traitors that some GNers are convinced they are.

Don't get on the wrong side of the mob, they'll eat you alive.

Callistemon Fri 03-Sept-21 23:11:55

I'm going to take a guess that getting Harry to talk about vaccines was a PR success for GQ
I've heard of it and I'm well over 50.
But I thought it was a men's fashion magazine so hardly to be taken that seriously surely?

(I recently got an A in IGCSE Biology (smile) does that count?)
Well, if a men's fashion magazine is to be taken seriously now by the scientific world then that is highly impressive, FannyCornforth.
I will nominate you for a Nobel prize in Ology.

You're not the only "straight talker" ... entitled to (your) opinion" and yes "we need a return of free speech in this country, etc, etc." so bear that in mind when others are doing the same, without making condescending comments about what your point of view.

Yes miss.
