I have discovered an advantage of Brexit

You get your passport stamped when you enter and leave EU countries.

Long ago in my youth, my passport were covered with entry and exit stamps, mostly Europe, a few more exotic. I was very proud of them. However in recent years, now I avoid air travel, my passport has gone its full life without any stamps in it.

But 10 days ago we went to France and my passport now has two stamps in it and will gather more, because we go there regularly. It will begin to look like a passport should.

That makes it all OK then.

Great news M0nica 💃🕺🏿👯‍♀️👯‍♂️💃🕺🏿
At long last, M0nica things will be as they should be!

And is it a blue passport (made in France?).

PippaZ Sat 04-Sep-21 22:49:30

I'm pleased for you M0nica but if that was why we left the EU ... ...

M0nica Sun 05-Sep-21 07:14:00

PippaZ well there had to be some good reason why we left the EU and this is just the first one I have been able to discover and one rather grabs at trifles on this subject.

Maybee70, no I still have a red passport, and will proudly have for another 7 years, although I am in the midst of applying for an Irish passport, which will make me an EU citizen again.

Show your U.K. passport when leaving U.K. to U.K. authorities, then show your Irish passport to the French authorities. You don’t get stamps but it’s the quickest way.

M0nica Pleased your made it to your place here. I hope you found everything as you left it.

I have two questions. Is there ‘duty free’ on the Eurostar for perfume and whiskey and if traveling by a French car from England to France, are new English goods taxed. English paint is so expensive here that I usually buy it in England.

Oh you lucky so and so!

Hilary Mantel is becoming an Irish citizen so that she can be officially European.
I wonder how many others have done this?

(NotSpaghetti I enjoyed your use of emojis)

It is often the small things that bring us joy. I would like stamps on my passport if I was travelling.

Lillie Sun 05-Sep-21 08:17:07

por brexit or not, thanks for the memories of passport stamps m0nica.
i really must dig my old passports out.
as a child i traveled extensively in euope and loved all the stamps, round one, oblong ones, red ones, black ones etc.
my favourite was one around 1972 when i was a teenager in berlin, of course the ddr no longer exists now, so a piece of history. i think they gave a bear stamp at check point charlie but it might not have been official.
i am sure i had a swiss bear stamp too.
the monaco one was very glam and red as you would expect. someone told me you can still get it stamped for a price at the tourist office.
so many travels to re live, so may memories to treasure, i am glad they are coming back in my passport.

We do, indeed, have to grab at straws; there should be some sort of award for finding one flowers

Good luck with the Irish nationalityshamrock Does this make your nationality dual and "now I have a choice", or is this a total "I've had enough" declaration?

Baggs Sun 05-Sep-21 08:53:18

Brits/UK citizens are already "officially European". We haven't floated out into the Atlantic, not literally anyhow 😉

vegansrock Sun 05-Sep-21 08:54:53

If you have an Irish passport you are an Irish citizen so not a “citizen of nowhere” thanks for the insult lincslass
However you still have the freedoms of an EU member .

WhiteWave I did write more, but then deleted it.
I decided that I couldn’t be a**ed with all that nonsense! grin

Ah - the tact and knowledge of Brexiteers [rolls eyes]

I’m of the same mind. The amount of times I bang off a reply then delete it, probably save a good deal of heightened blood pressure.

I read that Mantel wants to be European again, is baffled by the popularity of the monarchy and thinks the United Kingdom is an "artificial and precarious construct".

I like her 😊

Lucca Sun 05-Sep-21 09:13:35

I think of myself as a citizen of Europe and wish I were still in the EU. Sadly I cannot claim any Irish or other heritage …

Lucca Sun 05-Sep-21 09:16:42

But well done Monica on finding an advantage! Bit pricey for some stamps though but someone will be along to point out the other myriad advantages (hoorah rule Britannia there’ll always be an England 🎼)

NotSpaghetti Sun 05-Sep-21 09:16:42

I am another type then delete person Whitewave 🙄
