Well I'm from a working class background but please Angela Rayner having a go at Raab did herself and Labour no favours.

Snobbery alive and well on this thread. Angela R had a baby at 16, so didn’t work hard?!! She’s become an MP from her background without working hard? Nonsense

^AR might not be well educated but Johnson with his expensive education couldn't even pronounce the French bits of his franglais statements correctly^

Not at all Dinahmo he speaks French fluently. His Franglais was deliberate. A kind of subtle dig at Macron.

You say 'subtle dig' I say extremely rude. Since when has it been acceptable?

I'm not disputing that he was franglaising. What I am commenting on was his inability to pronounce a French words correctly.

Macron's use of the English language is perfect. When he first became president and came to the UK he made a long speech in English which was immaculate.

I have just read the backstory of AR posted earlier on the thread and having myself worked with such children and families for nearly 20 years I know just how unlikely it is to be able rise above this. I have nothing but admiration for her drive and determination and her experiences of such poverty and deprivation will serve her and others in future.

He's even said it before - twice. It sounds like a headline from the "Sun" and not funny at all. He's an embarrassment.

It was the kind of joke a silly schoolboy might make, thinking it was clever. It was about a subtle as a knock on the head avec un grand stick.

Oh look, I'm funny, can I be PM? hmm

You'd think that someone who spoke French would understand that its not funny to make fun of other people's languages, yet here we are.

Yes Zoejory you have just illustrated a point - Princess Diana fail to get even one O level, even though she sat them twice! Didn't hold her back!

Exactly! And John Major, ex PM only got 3.

Isn't it a shame to see that women are women's biggest critics?
Rayner should be celebrated for having done so well, given her circumstances.
I expect people would be trumpeting it to all who would listen if their darling daughters had achieved half as much.

Zoejory Thu 23-Sept-21 23:22:28

I love Northern accents, Curlywhirly. I love most accents. I'm not keen on Birmingham though. Apologies to anyone from Birmingham

Well Zoejory at least with your RP voice, you wouldn't be labelled thick, as I would with my oh so distasteful northern accent!

And how wrong they'd be! I have a friend who was educated with me who sounds like the Queen. She failed to get one O'Level.

Accents can fool people! It is all so silly really.

She made her point and we're talking about her. Not many want to talk about Raab. Not much to say about him really.

I haven't read so many appalling opinions on here in a long time. Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

AR might not be well educated but Johnson with his expensive education couldn't even pronounce the French bits of his franglais statements correctly.

I completely agree - some truly awful bigoted and prejudiced comments.

Zoejory Thu 23-Sept-21 23:06:08

I've had a quick look at her background and education history. She's clearly an intelligent woman. Her background reminded me a bit of Nadine Dorries. She gets a bit of grief on here as well. Also Priti Patel doesn't speak properly either. Something else I've learned from GN.

As for speech, I've no issue with it. It's how she talks .Not always in agreement with her but I'm not always in agreement with any politician of any colour.

I imagine a lot of you wouldn't like my voice with its RP which I acquired during childhood. Not my fault!

I see Angela is also a grandmother. At 40. How lovely for the child to have such a young vibrant Grandma to play with

growstuff Thu 23-Sept-21 23:02:30

Rayner was a carer for her mother and her middle son is registered blind and has SEN. I wonder if people would prefer she knew her place and had stayed in the council estate where she was born and lived off the benefits for her disabled child.

Why don't people just come out with what they really think? They think Angela Rayner is common and a slut.

JaneJudge Thu 23-Sept-21 22:45:01

Angela is a Gran too. Maybe someone from GNHQ could link to to the talk guidelines or ethos or whatever

Galaxy Thu 23-Sept-21 22:41:56

Johnsons behaviour will have damaged his children though but presumably that's not important. After all they are only children not as important as money.

Gwyneth Thu 23-Sept-21 22:39:19

I’ve never heard Angela Rayner speak in the Commons without screeching. It really affects my tinnitus so I am unable to listen to her actual words.

GillT57 Thu 23-Sept-21 22:32:18

Bloody hell. A few people showing their true views on this thread, and it is not pleasant. Eazybee in particular. What a vile comment, you should be ashamed of yourself, but probably won't

JaneJudge Thu 23-Sept-21 22:29:56

I think that is unfair, she was under the age of consent

Urmstongran Thu 23-Sept-21 22:23:49

I could be harsh back Riverwalk and say Boris’ progeny didn’t require state help in the form of benefits and/or social housing. The taxpayer who plays ‘dad’ in loco parentis in so many cases. No wonder it’s a lifestyle choice sometimes.
