Incidentally, supplies of oil are tight, which is why prices have risen so steeply, although that doesn't have any relevance to deliveries.
will WE learn any thing from the rcent hot weather?

Just watching the news showing people queuing for petrol. Apparently ‘the supply chain is under intense pressure”. BP is prioritising motorways and major routes. Deliveries are unpredictable and the army may be involved.
More talk about changing visa regs temporarily.

^A national fuel shortage is causing petrol stations across the country to close, risking widespread disruption.^
Thank you. I stand corrected. Nevertheless, the issue is that there are shortages where it's needed.
Whitewavemark2
The point is that business flags up these issues weeks months or in the driver shortage years in advance, but this government consistently fails for various reasons to act on them
We then find ourselves spiralling into these crises that should and could have been avoided.
Totally right Whitewave. My theory is that this "Never Ready" government were planning Johnson's Coronation while everything they were warned would happen, was happening
GrannyGravy The fact that my two nearest petrol stations have not had fuel for the last two days is not driven by sensational reporting or greedy individuals. It's driven by not having any petrol delivered! That's put pressure on the petrol stations which do have fuel, so of course they've run out more quickly.

PippaZ have you actually listened to or read the comments from people in the industry?
There is not a fuel shortage
This is driven by sensationalist reporting and perpetuated by greedy individuals.
Who has claimed there is a national fuel shortage? As far as I know, nobody.
That's a deflection from the issue that there is a fuel shortage in many places where it's needed ie. in the petrol stations.
Playing semantics doesn't solve the problems.

Copied from a post on Facebook:-
"After seeing the news last night about fuel shortages, I popped in to Tesco and I spoke to a very nice tanker driver who was rather informative and told me that the boats carrying fuel are arriving daily at Plymouth, the two depots in Plymouth are extremely well stocked and there is no shortage of drivers. His only concern was news articles misleading the public. He finished by explaining that it is only BP who have issues."Yep, today’s petrol buying frenzy is entirely the fault of U.K. media.
But that doesn't ring true any more than the government saying it GrannyGravy. We are all aware of what supporters of this government will say to persuade the unwary. That's why we are in this, and even bigger messes, isn't it?
Nothing wrong with the people queuing.
Sorry PippaZ but there is. There is no shortage. Some petrol stations closed temporarily, some people had to drive around a bit, the press got hold of it, loads of people over reacted and the supply chain couldn't hold up.
No excuse.

Do you need a special licence to drive a white van? I'm sure my driving licence says I can drive up so many tons
I presume you passed your test before 1997?
People who have passed since then can't automatically drive vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
We have a motorhome, which both OH and I are entitled to drive without any change to our old licences .
My step-daughter, 49, could also drive it in theory, but sons of 40 and 38 couldn't without adding another category to their licences. What that would actually entail, I don't know.
It would entail another test the government could charge for MamaCaz. I think they did something similar for HVG Tests.

I'm judging this guy quite harshly.
Greedy b*****d!
Smileless2012
It doesn't help does it felice. On BBC breakfast this morning at least they were emphasising it was a handful of garages with a supply problem.
I assume Smileless and felice don't travel anywhere by car.

All the garages near me have queuing ? what is wrong with people ?
Nothing wrong with the people queuing. They live in a country in which the government has no preplanning. The same government has stripped out vast amounts of money from essential areas for the sake of an "austerity" that was never needed. They then put pennies back where pounds were taken and tell us they are spending more money on x,y and z - it's a lie.
The only thing "people can rely on is that as soon as this government says everything is okay, you know for sure that it isn't.
If the press didn’t scaremonger this wouldn’t have happened. Asda, Morrisons and a Tesco not far from me have all now run out of petrol.
I have bought a camper van and the lady is delivering it to me today, she had to queue to put some petrol in in order to deliver to me, but she has accidentally put diesel in, app that’s all there was at the station and the pumps were confusing to work out since all the changes, there was no notice saying only diesel here, now she is waiting for RAC to empty the diesel and find some petrol, I dont think I will be seeing her for a while poor woman. Beware
Of course it’s panic buying, but some need to panic. Two couples we know are awaiting births imminently. I doubt they’d get an emergency ambulance with the way things are. Also the Hermes delivery driver said he was having difficulty getting petrol. No petrol for him means a loss of his livelihood. He’s not driving a company vehicle so no transport, no income. It’s ok the government saying there is no shortage of fuel. There probably is enough, but it’s not getting to the point of sale for car users.
The worlds gone mad!
On our community hub today was a young lady who's car was siphoned last night every last drop of petrol removed that's not Boris fault that's the human races fault!!
I agree Shinamae the media has a lot to answer for.
Great post @ 12.42 Alegrias.
I pretty much blame the media for everything, consistently.
otherwise keeping the family car topped up is prudent
Buying £10 worth of petrol and contributing to gridlock on the roads and clearing the petrol stations out when there is no petrol shortage is not prudent, it's a bit silly.
The problem is the media don't just report the news, they actively create it by their hyperbolic headlines.
Filling up of extra cans shouldn't be allowed. Otherwise keeping the family car topped up is prudent, not panic buying. One can almost hear the govt saying in other circs, If people run out they've only themselves to blame.
Perhaps some of this dismissive blamingof 'the media' could be transferred to some of the covid threads where what the press reports seems to be taken far more seriously.?
As previously said, irresponsible media hype has mainly caused this problem
