Does anyone here believe, as I do, that Johnson is finished (and I am sure HE does know himself)

All the signs are there, no?

It’s the public duties cost allowance I’m thinking of and that was set up by John Major. I’m sure Johnson will make sure he does well out of that!

No

He is a clever man with no inhibitions about lying to people or knifing his enemies in the back.

Such men are very difficult to bring down. He will go in his own time, probably before the next election because he is by nature a lazy and indolent man, and being Prime Minister is hard work. With a 5 year premiership under his belt he will be hoping to exploit all those money making opportunities that he thinks will come to a man who has been Prime Minister for a significant time and will be much less demanding. With a wife and growing family, he will need the money.

Didn’t Margaret Thatcherr negotiate a good pension deal for ex PM’s?

Johnson is talking of allowing 5000 short-term visas in haulage- but the shortfall is 100000... how is that going to really help.

I'm puzzled - you say the shortfall is 100,000 but, according to the Road Haulage Association, 20,000 went back to the EU because of Brexit

100,00 - 20,000 = 80,000

Which must mean we have lost another 80,000 UK drivers due to other reasons and need to resolve this asap.

Don't be ridiculous.

Unlike others who have no compunction about knifing their friends and allies in the back.

Do you want to have a bet on that Monica ? ?

What do you mean ‘we haven’t left in real terms’? So we’re just pretending we’ve left? confused

I voted leave yes, and I have absolutely no regrets - I’d vote leave again, & so would everyone I know.

Callistemon Sat 25-Sept-21 22:03:36

Why is Labour relevant to this discussion - it’s a rabbit hole? The Tories are in power for ages yet, so if Boris goes it isn’t anything to do with Keir Starmer, it’s to do with whether the Tories think they can win with Boris in charge, or whether he’s had his day.

Yes, it's a Tory decision. Not Labour's, not ours.
Are they happy with their leader's performance or are rumblings afoot?

Kali2 Sat 25-Sept-21 22:00:55

Leave or not leave, this Government is totally able and free to allow foreign workers to come back and save our agriculture and distribution infrastructure (wether those who left would agree to come back- is another story. Johnson is talking of allowing 5000 short-term visas in haulage- but the shortfall is 100000... how is that going to really help.

No scaremongering- it is happening right now and will be reality in a matter of a week or two.

Callistemon Sat 25-Sept-21 22:00:52

Boris would never be leader. Wrong again.

Yes, that was me ? I hold my hands up.
So it's no good me predicting anything.

Jexit?

lemongrove Sat 25-Sept-21 21:58:45

Kali I realise that the UK leaving the EU upset you, but you have to accept that it happened and there is no going back.

Kali2 Sat 25-Sept-21 21:57:36

... implementations and consequences not having taken place yet.

(pressed on save by error).

Op.

I hate to break it to you, but we’ve already left the EU.

Yes, we have ... but not in real terms, no- we have not. There are, ways and ways ... and the implementation has not fully hit yet.

Can you put your hand on your heart and say you are pleased and satisfied at how things are turning out- despite most of the implementaiotnt

Flu season and cold weather approaching - winter of discontent ahead for sure. Oh and I totally agree re Gove or Truss... or any of them, really. Perhaps Sunak?

We know Labour is un-electable at the moment, and that is tragic and all of its own making. Conference proves that- hellbet on fighting each other instead of Tories! But that does not mean Johnson is not finished.

Running out of petrol and some things in shops is one thing - when we run out of chemicals for water purification (soon), and cancer treating isotopes...and essential utilities like gas and electricty, just as winter is coming + the flu season and shortages in hospitals and care homes, etc, etc, is another.

I do believe the Tories are a-turning- including the Cabinet. Wait and see. And if you don't see the signs, perhaps you should go to Durham ;) lol.

The above is scaremongering alright.

Kali2 Sat 25-Sept-21 21:54:10

Lemon, these are serious predictions based on the realities on the ground- stores are very small, with a short shelf life. Other 'simple' things like blood test tubes, etc.

Major distributors for Sainsbury’s and Asda gone bust due to HGV shortage - 1000 jobs lost. There are real issues with distribution which are a about the get much worse. This is not scare mongering.

I do think they care a lot more about public opinion more than people are assuming - let’s be honest, he didn’t get the job in the first place based on his competence but because he was popular with the public. ,

My High Court Judge Uncle had voted to Remains.
However the awful snobbishness that has filled our land has made him question his decision, If he had another chance it would be Brexit for him

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58186519

Really interesting article about it. all

lemongrove Sat 25-Sept-21 21:47:13

Kali who is saying that we have run out of chemicals for water purification?
We haven’t run out of drugs ( for chemotherapy) either, or petrol, that was caused by panic buying due to the media.
We haven’t run out of gas, electricity or water supplies!
I think that you are doing the self same thing ( in spades) by comments like these, as the media do, by inducing panic.
The flu season may be much better this year, older people will be triple jabbed by then.

Kali2 Sat 25-Sept-21 21:39:16

Zoej '' I know a couple of Remainers who wish they'd voted for Brexit! So what to them as well. Can't do anything about it now.''

what reasons do they give for wishing they had voted Brexit. I truly would love to know, especially in the current circumstances. Please.

Brexit is not 'done'- not done at all. So there is plenty that can be done, I can assure you- to soften the current blows. Like free movement and immigration to fill the crucial vacancies we have in haulage and agriculture. But East Europeans who previously filled those jobs won't come to 'help' because the way they have been treated - unless they get much better wages, condtions and security- and respect.

Most of the effects of Brexit have not even happened yet- and even Johnson and Tories are begging the EU to give them more time. And it is clear big markets like the USA will just not happen either.
