I'm not a gentile. I'm an atheist.

It's a bit insulting to all the lovely Jewish posters.

Kali2 Wed 13-Oct-21 15:48:17

Why? I am not a Catholic, not a Muslim, not a Methodis, not a Hindu - why is it rude to state so?

Cossy Wed 13-Oct-21 16:01:46

Today 13:08 ajswan

I am talking about the so called refugees who are in fact economic migrants who come to this country to milk our welfare system. I worked for 56 years paying tax and insurance. I recently saw videos where fit young men wearing designer clothes being interviewed outside a hotel that had been totally given over to Afghan refugees. They said that they were waiting for housing. Why were they not put up in army barracks instead of four star hotels. We should house our homeless and forces veterans first.

Firstly, it’s not a crime to be an “economic migrant”, us Brits have done it for years, secondly it’s not and either or situation, we can, and do, help both ! More importantly you clearly understand absolutely nothing about how our welfare system works (yes, I do having worked in this area for 12+ years) and finally stopped believing all the right wing racist trash about “Jonny Foreigner” you see or read in the media and understand that MANY migrants, refugees or otherwise, are highly educated or, in your world do they have to be young females or wizanded old men to be genuine ???

I meant to respond to ajswan's post about lovely gentiles.

Satire is alive and well, cartoonists all over the world are having a field day - and the sarcasm is so well expressed, Old biddies are even taking to poetry

ajswan One thing I do agree with you on is the level of sarcasm, insulting and generally unpleasant posts by a group of ‘mature’ people, when they come across comments they don’t like. It’s not edifying at all.

MaizieD Wed 13-Oct-21 17:16:39

Goodness! I see someones been on the hotline to the mods again.

Lucca Wed 13-Oct-21 17:40:02

Lemongrove forgive me I don’t think you’re a stranger to sarcasm !

Ajswans post was very prejudiced and that’s what angered posters.

Kali2 Wed 13-Oct-21 18:09:06

Auf Wiedersehen Pet!

vegansrock Wed 13-Oct-21 18:10:05

ajswan I live in an area of high immigration and I guess you’d call me a do-gooder in that I like the fact that I live in a diverse community, I donate to refugee amongst other charities and wouldn’t give a cent to Farage and his ilk. Plus I have had a refugee living next door and a very polite and pleasant young man he was. So your theory about nimbys falls short of any actual evidence.

lemongrove Wed 13-Oct-21 18:42:22

I don’t think anyone is Lucca but theres’s a difference to the odd sarcastic remark and a whole sarcastic pile on, which is what happened here.
As for ‘angered posters’ how about a post such as vegansrock
Above, that’s a good example of how to challenge a comment
Without all the usual angry rhetoric...and works much better than calling someone names.

GillT57 Wed 13-Oct-21 20:11:26

Gentiles? What on earth are you talking about?

Scones Wed 13-Oct-21 20:31:55

"I phoned two different companies recently and a recorded message said ‘press 1 if you want to speak to an English speaking operator’. I am in England!!!"

Perhaps the companies weren't in England.

ajswan I think maybe the problem you're coming up against here is that a lot of people are pro immigration. They might be friends with immigrants, be employed by immigrants, employ immigrants, be friends with immigrants or married to an immigrant. Their child might be taught by an immigrant or their bus driven by one.
heir life might have been saved by an immigrant working in an NHS hospital. Heck, they might even be an immigrant themselves!

Immigrants are net contributors to the UK economy so they can fund themselves. Generally speaking we do not have to put them up in our back bedrooms as they and their children and grandchildren do pretty well under their own steam - just ask Rishi Sunak smile

There are lots of reasons why people think immigration is a good thing. You obviously have very strong views on this and will no doubt understand how others feel about their own views.

Trisha57 Wed 13-Oct-21 20:41:01

I can only think that you lovely gentile people do not live in areas that are affected by mass immigration.
Wow, just WOW! My family, East End born and bred, have lived, breathed, welcomed and supported a multi-cultural society from the early days of immigration into London back into the early 19th century. How dare you accuse me and others of racist leanings when you are yourself use such antoginistic language? I am truly speechless angry Have I got it wrong here?

Trisha57 Wed 13-Oct-21 20:42:51

And why use the word "gentile" anyway?

lemongrove Wed 13-Oct-21 20:55:34

Yes, you have got it wrong trisha ?
The poster clearly means gentle

I think we can all be forgiven for thinking gentiles was deliberate Lemongrove based on the somewhat inflammatory opinions expressed by the poster. My comment, which backfired and was pulled by the moderators after someone reported me, was an attempt to lighten the rapidly escalating pattern. Best stick to my day job eh? I still heartily dislike ignorant and ill informed and racist posts though, as we all do.

lemongrove Wed 13-Oct-21 21:30:54

I read it as a simple spelling mistake Gill it makes more sense that way.

ajswan Wed 13-Oct-21 21:43:56

Thank you Lemongrove, I did mean gentle. Regarding racism, in every culture there is racism. Don’t get me started on honour killings. How was my post racist when it is a fact that we as a small island cannot cope with unlimited immigration, it does not take a brain of Britain to work this out. I am bored with this boring debate. Thank you Lemongrove for being kind and a voice of reason.

Galaxy Wed 13-Oct-21 21:50:13

It's not compulsory you know if its causing you such boredom.

Kali2 Wed 13-Oct-21 22:02:10

Bored? Boring?

Racism is never boring, it is disgusting. So you come here from nowhere to just drop in your racist bile- and quickly tell us you are bored?

Yes, enjoy the rest of your evening.

Alegrias1 Wed 13-Oct-21 22:05:51

How was my post racist...

There are areas where there are no longer any British butchers, only halal

Racist. And you don't even know why.

I await my deletion.

vegansrock Wed 13-Oct-21 22:11:48

aswan you do not address your inaccuracy in stating that those who are not hostile to immigration do not live in high immigration areas. Simple not true. Plenty of us live in cities with high immigration and enjoy the diversity. I’d hate to live in a mono cultural world with just chip and pie shops.
